As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). We have the Country Inn and Suites booked for the night before our cruise for $129. DH's parents decided to stay there too, and they are paying $163 (parking package). Well, I was reading on another board and a lot of people have great things to say about the Residence Inn. I looked and we can get a 750 square foot, 2 bedroom suite (2 kings and a sofa bed), with two bathrooms, for $180. The shuttle is $3 per person each way. We would be paying $4 pp at CI&S, but DH's parent's shuttle is included in their rate.
So obviously, this would save us a fair amount of money. Has anyone stayed here? Do you have to pay to leave your car? I couldn't find anything about a park and cruise rate. Can we sign up for the shuttle ahead of time, or when we check in? I have heard all positive on the other board about both of these hotels (the Radisson is a different story). I need help. . . .
Okay, I found on their website where it says parking is free. This is looking more and more interesting. Hmmm. . .

We stayed at the Residence Inn back in 2006 right after it opened (I had got a great pre-opening rate). There was no cost to park then, and the only problem we saw with their shuttle (or that they mentioned) was at that time, it didn't come until later (maybe 11 if not later) and she mentioned that a lot of the Disney cruisers liked to get to the terminal early so they were looking at moving it to an earlier time. But again, that was 3 years ago so I'm sure things have changed.
The breakfast (free) was fantastic, and they had a computer in the common area, so you could check your email and such (for free at that time). I'd definitely recommend the hotel!
I heard that a cab is only $4 per person plus tip. This may be an option instead of the shuttle so we can operate on our schedule. I am guessing that it is next to the CI&S, since I read about the Burger King in the parking lot in descriptions of both hotels.
DH talked to DMiL and she is all for it. She is supposed to call back later with credit card info; the room will have to be in their name, since they will be there first.
I would still like feedback, but Trip Advisor rates the Residence Inn as the #1 hotel for Cape Canaveral, so I am thinking it is a go.
I think they offer more than one, but since a taxi is only $4 per person (as opposed to $3 per person for the shuttle), I think we may go that route, and get to the port when we want.
Which probably tells you that we changed our reservation to Residence Inn! On Trip Advisor, there were almost all 5 star ratings from guests. There were a few 4*s, and ONE 3*. IMHO, that speaks VERY highly of the hotel, and since it is costing us $100 including tax (our half) versus $143 for CI&S, it seems like a no-brainer.

We booked the Residence in for our night before also. We are considereing driving to the port having DH drop us of and returning to hotel to park and take the shuttle. Then it will only be $3 instead of $15.
Gina, it looks like we will be together from beginning to end this trip!
We are getting a Quicksilver transfer to the Residence Inn, and all of us won't fit in DFiL's car, so it will probably be a cab for us.

We have always done the Raddison and have loved it.... we do a taxi to the port so as to not get caught up in the shuttle traffic/schedule. We like to get to the port at around 10:30 so to be the first group on and then up to deck 9 for some quiet time prior to everyone else!! Don't get caught in the trap of eating on deck 3 like they try to push you into... take the elevator to deck 9 and eat up there.... same food etc..... maybe better....
called the Residence Inn and the DCL shuttle leaves at 10am. HTH!

I called and was told the same thing. Did they let you make reservations for the shuttle or do you have to wait and register when you check-in? We should get a head count going and see if everyone is going to fit. We have 9 in our party.
