Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Flashback: Adventuring in 10/2002 (October 2002)

Are you planning a trip sometime in October 2002? If so, share your dates and plans with your fellow travelers here! The following information is helpful to know (you can copy and paste it into your post):

Date: (when you'll be there, arrival to departure)
Adventurers: (who's going with you, their ages, and their experience)
Resort/Hotel: (where you are staying)
Celebration: (why you are going, even if just for R&R)
Meetings: (places you'll be at if others want to join you, plus ways fellow travelers can spot you, such as wearing a PassPorter Pin, etc. Remove this if you don't have the time or inclination to meet fellow travelers.)

Feel free to post even if your plans aren't firm -- you're always welcome to return and update us when you've made more plans!

When you return from your trip, we encourage you to share your adventure with us in our Sharing the Adventure message board!

Re: Flashback: Adventuring in 10/2002 (October 2002)

Date: We are arriving Oct. 20, 2002, staying 8 nights with 7 day Stars and Stripes passes and checking out on Oct. 28, 2002.

Adventurers: Coming to WDW in our party are Myself, Kim; My husband Bill; and our 4 kids: Cynthia - 10, Courtney - 9, Colt - 7 & Caryn - 2.

Resort/Hotel: We were orginally scheduled for Shades of Green but since they are closing for 18 months we have been moved to the Comtempary. I am so excited about the monorail at our hotel!! Even if we have to walk from the Garden wing to it!! We last came to Disney in 1992 and stayed in the Disney Inn (Shades of Green now) and really loved the atmosphere there. But, I am excited about where we have been moved.

Celebration: After the Sept. 11 attacks my husband who is in the AF Reserves got reactivated onto active duty. He is making more money so we dedided we better bring the family while we have the chance to do so!!

Meetings: Other than staying at the Contempory we will be in the parks in this order: Epcot, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, MGM, Animal Kingdom, Disney Quest (starting with day 10-21)I have down already where we are eating each meal so if anyone is up for a meet I have all the info.

Hopefully I can meet some people on here who can help me plan and know some good tips!!

Kim

Re: Flashback: Adventuring in 10/2002 (October 2002)

Hi, everyone! This is my very first post on this board as I just received my PassPorter 2002 as a gift from my mom this afternoon! Yippee! As she put it, "Mickey knows you want to start planning our trip so he decided to send you this gift!"
Anyway, it will be our second trip to WDW as a family group (my fifth time).
When?: October 25-29 for just me and my husband as we celebrate our 5th anniversary
October 29-November 5 as a family
Who?: Me and hubby, Mom(grandma) and hopefully Dad (grandpa), my younger sis, my older sis and her three kids (nephews 14, 10) and my niece (12ish) and perhaps a family friend.
Why?: We told "the kids" that we would spend their 12th BD at WDW...so we are going to celebrate my niece's BD on the 4th and wanted to catch Halloween while we're there!
Where?: This is still totally up in the air. My parents are paying for accomodations so we wil
probably stick with room at the All Stars like we did last family trip, though I'm
secretly hoping to surprise my husband with a stay for our anniversary at a deluxe!

Re: Flashback: Adventuring in 10/2002 (October 2002)

We'll be getting our 5th WDW fix together, heading to Orlando, as usual, for the first week of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.

Date: Leaving San Francisco October 17th on an ATA red-eye. (ATA had the lowest fares by far, even though it's reputed to have narrow, crowded seats. We bought tickets early to insure against a sell-out, and also to insure our choice of seats. [6/25 update--Turns out we should have waited. Others on the trip recently got 'way better prices on other airlines. Oh, well.]

Adventurers: Chris Head and Michael England.
Michael is an old Disney hand, having been to Disneyland first in the late summer of '55, practically having grown up there in a myriad of subsequent visits. He had long shunned WDW as probably a mere imitation of the Real Thing. Chris had been to WDW a number of times beginning in his childhood, so he finally talked Michael into going. Michael now loves Disney parks on both coasts.

Michael's sister Mel and his best friend Lurch will accompany us (as Lurch has several times before), as well Chris' friends Paul and Desmond. It'll be a jolly time!

Resort/Hotel: As usual, we've traded Chris' timeshare for a local resort--a different one each year, this time at what appears to be the very nice Orange Lake Resort & Country Club in Kissimmee. (Maybe we'll be able to see the Tree of Life from our window, as we could at last year's otherwise disappointing condo.)

There are beds throughout our two-bedroom condo, enough for all those friends, if they're able to come along.

Celebration: Last year we had a grand time doing the Animal Kingdom's Backstage Safari and the Backstage Magic tours. This year we've booked the new Animal Kingdom Wild by Design tour to add to our memories.

We also mean to dine well again this year: We hope to repeat last year's delightful experience at the first Winemakers Dinner of the Festival [6/25 update--sadly, no Winemakers Dinners scheduled this year, so we'll settle for Bistro de Paris ], and we certainly hope to revisit last year's incomparable Artist Point dinner at Wilderness Lodge.

Chris has talked Michael into daring the water parks this year, and we can't wait for an evening at the Adventurers Club at Pleasure Island.

We've got our PassPorter 2002, our 6 Day Parkhopper Plus cards, and the D-World Countdown clock on my PC desktop says 210 days! [Now 115 days!] Will we have enough time to get ready?
