Go your own way - Decade of Dreams - UPDATED 6/24 - COMPLETE!! - Page 50 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

WOW ... what a beautiful dining room. And let me say I think it is AWESOME that they still have the old "Living Seas" logo when you go in. I love the original EPCOT Center logos! That was a neat idea about signing the picture frames. Why all the PassPorter books on the tables, though? Did they belong to all of you or were they some Dave and Jennifer brought? The food looked very good, one of my favorite meals!
The books were prizes and they also made a special guest appearance in the cover shoot later!
Sunday 3 May – part five: time for our cover shoot!
Before I knew what was happening, it was time for Jennifer and Dave to cut the cake and I needed to talk to Sara, as we were about to the presentation of their present, which was a digital photo frame. We hadn’t talked about what we were going to say and Jennifer and Dave had a script to make sure that they thanked everyone. That even included myself, as an e-book author, which was a real honour. My lanyard had author on it, which was a really nice touch, but I had no idea that Jennifer and Dave were going to highlight that here. I stood up, along with the other authors there, Carrie and Sabine and we all got a round of applause.
When it came to Sara and I, we just spoke from the heart and I hope it came across OK. It’s hard to put into words what being part of PassPorter means. I said to Jennifer that she and Dave make such a difference to people’s lives and I don’t think they realise that. She agreed that she didn’t, but I hope after today that she does now know.
A couple of shots of the presentation, kindly taken by Wendy!
We then had some group photos and did our best to get our own shots of them:
The rest of the party flew by with me taking lots more photos and chatting with various people. Then it was time to hit dessert. My goodness, that chocolate birthday cake was really good. The strawberry shortcake wasn’t bad either. The disappointment for me was the bread and butter pudding, which didn’t do much for me, although I know it was popular with others on our table.
Our table plus passers-by!
Sadly, the time passed way too quickly and all too soon, it was time to head out, but not before a final restroom stop (I have to say that the sub title of this trip became “we can’t pass by a restroom”!) and this restroom was pretty special, so special that I just had to get a photo of it and the PassPorters in there at the time.
On the way back out
Then it was outside, where I held everyone until Jennifer and Dave came down, so that they could get the big group photo done that would be on the cover of the 2010 edition of PassPorter. I can’t wait to see that and I’m so excited to finally be featured on a cover. How neat!
Waiting for our big photoshoot!
We managed to assemble ourselves pretty well, although we did have some huge spaces between the lines at times! We kept joking with Dave and asking him if he was really taking photos or just messing with us. It was pretty hot outside, but not quite as brutal as it was yesterday, which was a great relief.
Next the PassPorter quest started and I was really keen to do this, having missed the Magic Kingdom yesterday. Once all the questionnaires were handed out and we assembled into teams, joining Sue and Angie, we headed en masse for Spaceship Earth. I loved the concept of the quests. You could work in teams or as individuals and the questions are all about PassPorter and the attractions that we would be going on. This made you really look at things really closely, although I still don’t know what the name of the newspaper was that the newspaper boy was selling in Spaceship Earth. Anyone? I’m not aware of anyone who got that one… Had we stayed until the end, I guess we would’ve learned that, but never mind… more of that shortly.
Wendy and I made some silly faces for the photos on Spaceship Earth, but nowhere near as funny as Angie behind us. Oh my goodness.. I’m so glad that showed up in Sue’s trip report, as sadly I never managed to capture the wonder of it!
When we came out of there, we all gathered in Project Tomorrow and we had the option of a restroom stop, which we took. Remember, when I told you what the subtitle of this trip report was?! Then, as we waited to head out, Mark called. It was great to talk to him and everyone yelled “hi Mark” right on cue. He was asking me how many people were there and I had to admit it was quite a few.
Our next stop was the Universe of Energy and Ellen’s Energy Adventure. I was pleased about this, as I do like this, but equally I know that it’s a ride that a lot of people sometimes skip and that’s a shame. Fitting all the PassPorters on was fun. We took up about five rows on this, which gives you an idea of how many there were of us.
Jennifer gathering everyone together for the next part of our quest
It looks like you all had a great time! I'm soooooo jealous that I couldn't go.....but luckily you take so many great pictures that it's almost as if I WAS there!
You certainly captured the essence of the PP luncheon and quest afterwards Cheryl! All of us who couldn't be there really appreciate the pictures that you took! That chocolate cake that they served at the luncheon looked so yummy! Can't wait for more.
