Pixie Dusted Honeymoon August 3rd - August 10th, 2009 PTR - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Yet another purchase for the trip. And this time it's better than ponchos! My DH2B and I had been talking about getting a new camera for some time now. The one I currently have is around 5 years old and a crack started to form at the top of the camera and it was going to be really expensive to fix it. With the wedding and honeymoon coming up we figured it was a good time to invest in a new digital camera with updated specs. We had been researching them and had decided to basically get the newest version of my current camera (a cannon digital elph). Then my car crapped out and cost way to much money to fix so we had decided to skip the camera and just hope that the one I have doesn't get worse with the big crack at the top.
Then we were driving to the store to pick up gifts for our bridal party when I see a sign for Ritz/Proex saying that Everything Must Go 50-80% off. So we made a little stop expecting that all the camera extras like cases and memory cards to be 50-80% off while cameras at 10% off or something. That is what seems to happen with all these kinds of sales. So we went into the store and it was a mad house! Luckily it was the first day of the sale. We waited forever and looked at a bunch of cameras almost exactly like the one we had discussed getting. The one we had decided on before my car crapped out was the newest model and the one in the store was from last year. Either way they were around $250, which although not too expensive for a nice digital camera it was still a lot when I had the bill for my car looming over my head. Then we saw that the camera's were actually all 50% off.
So we found that the cannon digital elph from last year was going to be about $120. Such a good deal. Then I looked at the non-elph versions of the cannons and found that they are still fairly small. So we looked at those. Compared the specs on the elph and the non-elph and everything was pretty much the same except for the size. Now I'm the one who wants the tiny little camera so that it fits in my purse cause if I don't have a tiny one I don't bring it anywhere. And I thought the non-elph was tiny enough. When I saw the price difference I decided that the non-elph was definitely tiny enough. It was only $65 with the 50% discount! We couldn't say no. We ended up getting the camera a case and a 4GB memory card (fast speed) for under $90. So now we don't have to worry about our current camera dying on our wedding/honeymoon. So excited! And after playing with the new camera I found I got a major upgrade. 3MP to 8MP. 3x zoom to 4x zoom. All in all I'm really happy and excited to have saved the money. Still not sure where I'm going to come up with the $90 I spent, but the memories captured with the camera will be worth it right?

Not many updates on the trip lately. We're too busy with the wedding. And since that happens first that's what we're dealing with. We got the invitations out the door so maybe I'll have time to focus on the honeymoon sometime in the near future.
I did make my final payment to Disney today! Well my TA actually made the payment, but as of 12 PM we are PIF! Its so nice to not have to worry about making that payment anymore.
We did also go and buy a bunch of stuff for the honeymoon at Target the other day. My DH2B is a team member at Target and he had his discount plus a Target visa rewards. We saved tons! I got a backpack for the parks, new clothes, travel sized stuff, activities for the plane, hand sanitizer, and sunscreen and such. Not super exciting, but its good that it is taken care of. The check out lady did think we were strange with what we were buying. All the stuff for vacation PLUS 35 bags of Dove chocolates We're using them in our wedding favors, but we looked strange buying TONS of chocolate.
I am really enjoying this Pre-TR. You have done an amazing job with your planning AND you have managed to get some truely awesome savings and deals Try to remain as stress free as possible. Hope you'll post some pics of the wedding too!
PIF! Very cool. I bet she did think something was going on with all that chocolate - although, now that I think about it, I could use a few of those myself.

Thanks! If you think we've saved a lot on the honeymoon you should see what we've managed to save on the wedding. I refuse to pay full price for wedding stuff. One day does not = $20,000 to me! We'll have a lovely wedding and not break the bank.
I'll have to see about posting pictures. I've never posted any on the boards, but keep thinking I should put something up even as we're planning. We have a website with free storage for pictures so maybe I can link/post from that. Just another thing for me to look into in my (non-existent) free time. It would be a lot more interesting than stuffing favor boxes that's for sure!
