Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

When I grow up, I want to be...

Do you remember your childhood answers to that question? Did they change with time or did they stay the same? Do tell!

I remember wanting to be a mommy early on, that one has stayed with me.

I also remember wanting to be a princess, a ballerina, a teacher, a singer, an actress, a foreign ambassador...

At one point, maybe 4th grade or so, I thought that being a chef on a cruise line would be the best job in the world. I'd still do it now, but how would you feel about hamburger helper for dinner on a cruise?

So what about you?

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

I wanted to be a surgeon up until about my junior year of high school. Then figured I wouldn't be able to deal with blood, gore and more importantly - death of a patient.

Signed,
Steve M.D.

P.S. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up!

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

I was going to be a nurse, then an ob-gyn. But when they told me more years of chem were ahead, I said forget it! I had always wanted to be a flight attendant (since I was 5 or 6), so when I actually got to do it, it was the best thing in the world (at the time--now the best thing is Megan).

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

I wanted to be a veterinarian. Then one day my cat got injured when I was in Jr High and we had to take her the veterinarian and she was howling and screaming and I realized then and there (through my tears) that I couldn't do it. It hurt too much to see a pet in pain. Still a bit sad about that decision. -HiddenMickey

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

I remember wanting to be a stewardess, a secretary and a trucker. I went to university to become a chartered accountant, but my heart wasn't in it. My GPA was low and I was more interested in getting my Mrs. degree. (I got engaged to DH a couple months after starting university) I was asked by the university to not return the next year. Turned out good for me, though, because I attended business college then and became a secretary until my DS was born.

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

I always wanted to sing on Broadway!

Don't think that will ever happen, #1) because I'm not so sure I have the talen, #2) Never took dance lessons, and #3) I'm just too chicken!

Fun to think about though...

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

I wanted to be a ballerina, then a librarian (I've always been a bookworm). I wanted to be a flight attendant for awhile, even went to a Continental recruiting thing but got turned down. I really only wanted to do that because I knew being a pilot was way too far fetched and I really wanted to fly the friendly skies. Then I went to school for Psychology until I found out half the people working along side me at SkyTel's customer service center had Psych degrees and I was just out of High School. Still don't know what I want to do.

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

My parents said that when I was younger and people would ask me that question I would respond by saying "I want to be an AIRPLANE!!" My mom said that if asked if I meant pilot, I would emphatically state "No, an AIRPLANE!"
Well....thank goodness I got out of that phase!

In high school I wanted to own my own daycare, but then once I graduated from college and worked as a teacher and then director of a daycare center I quickly decided that there was no way the type of quality center I wanted to run would make any profit. Now I work for my father in the health care field and I couldn't be happier!

I always wanted to work for.....an airline!!

Although back in high school I used to have dreams of getting out of here and I wanted to go work in O'Hare. YUCK!! Much happier working for my small little airline up here.

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

I wanted to be a veterinarian, I even went so far as applying to a special program in my high school for it, but I don't know what changed that I never attended. Now I don't even have pets, go figure!

I was also very interested in being a flight attendant, but got discouraged when some flight attendants I spoke to said that there was a weight requirement. I was about 10lbs. over the max. allowed and struggling to stay at that weight, so there went my dreams of flying the friendly skies.

A paleontologist. Seriously that was my answer from age 8 until high school when it became Broadway Star!

A clown in the circus for a long while, then a vet, then a own a bookstore(still want to do that one!), then when I was older, I thought i would join the air force and be a nurse, but the thought of someone YELLING at me for 7 weeks changed that.

When I got to be a jr in highschool, I too sought the MRS. Degree and ive never regretted it!

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

Since I'm still 11 years old I only have a few dreams: 1.A nurse (5 years old) whenever someone in the family was sick i stood around them holding my plastic toy nurse bag.
2.A ballarina (7 years old) that one didn't last long because i faced the facts and gave up.

Haven't thought about another career in years till home & Careers came in 6'th grade (this year)

3.A vet.(now) i LOVE animals . i would like to help them. There would be a lot of years in collage ahead if i do that job though!

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

I always wanted to be an artist!

Last year, DH and I started our own business - tie-dying! So, I'm a tie-dye artist. Not the type of artist I anticipated being, but a much more realistic way to do what I love without starving. And now I'm starting 2 whole new series of clothing for our business - nursing clothes and patchwork clothes. All this and starting school next year. Majoring in anthropology/minoring in modern language to be able to help more mothers by becoming a lactation consultant. I'll be busy the next thirty years or so.

Re: When I grow up, I want to be...

When I was little, it was a nurse like my Aunt. Then for about six years or so it was an astronaut. When I realized how difficult that would actually be to become one, I wanted to be a teacher. In seventh grade, I decided I was going to be a marine biologist. I was accepted into a few marine biology majors in different colleges and went for one year with that major. When I realized the only way I could get a good job training dolphins was to get my doctorate, I quickly decided this was not the career for me. I couldn't see myself in college for that many years..and the thoughts of taking math in college scared the crap out of me.

I switched to an English major and got my degree. Now, I'd love to write children's literature and perhaps a few travel guides. Unfortunately, it's more difficult than it sounds.
