As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Inspired by Belle*\'s Answer to #3 of the Big Fat Greek Wedding Thread
The scenario is:
A big stone church with only 100 guests (i.e. hollow.) A nice musical balcony in the rear. February in Maine (too cold for an outdoor musician.) A bridal party dressed in plaid. A bride who loooooves everything Scottish, and a groom and a priest who think it's a bad idea.

I would say why not. You only get married once hopefully and I really don't see what would be such a bad idea about it.

You've asked the wrong person. I love bagpipe music. It's your day so have it your way.

Re: Inspired by Belle*\'s Answer to #3 of the Big Fat Greek Wedding Thread
Wow, guys! I didn't expect to get so much support!
DF is ready to let me have my way during the ceremony (he's been sooooooo good already!) and I couldn't imagine why he would object to the bagpiper. (I'm not quite sure, but maybe the fact that I briefly dated a piper from Scotland might have something to do with it...) I informed the priest of my plans, and he just rolled his head around and complained about the noise. "Do whatever you want," he said tossing his hand at me "but they're just so LOUD."
There's some "no bagpiper" responders out there, I'm interested in what they have to say, too!
Is there anyone who has actually heard a piper inside a large (the aisle is 110 feet) gothic stone cathedral? I'm interested in some first-hand experience. DF is the sound engineer, so it's hard to argue with his expertise. Last thing I want to do is to blow everyone's eardrums out at my wedding!
But thanks again everyone for your encouragement on the Project Bagpipes: Yes side. It means a lot!

Re: Inspired by Belle*\'s Answer to #3 of the Big Fat Greek Wedding Thread
Keep in mind that I know next to nothing about musical instruments, but can a bagpipe be muffled in any way? The church where I grew up and got married was huge and I know that on a couple of occasions, there was bagpipe music, but that was when the church was full of people. It was a bit loud then, so I can't imagine how loud it would be in a less full church. If it's confined to the choir loft it may not be so bad.
By the way, I voted yes!

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Well, while my church isn't a cathedral, it is huge - seats nearly 3,000 people. It has soaring ceilings, two galleries, and balcony seating. We have an orchestra pit with a full orchestra and we've had bagpipes played occasionally for regular Sunday morning worship services, and its always sounded amazing.
I hope you follow your desire - remember it is your day as a couple - it's not a day for your priest or for your guests - I think a lot of people forget that and it torques me off to hear people complain or critique other people's wedding ceremony or reception plans. Ya'll need to come to terms with it as a couple and run with the decision. Just my opinion.

Re: Inspired by Belle*\'s Answer to #3 of the Big Fat Greek Wedding Thread
We had a piper lead us out for our recession, and it was wonderful. It was loud, but the church was large with lots of stone and woodwork and little carpet. No one complained and we got lots of nice compliments on having the piper there.
Is there much fabric in your church? Padded seat cushions or carpet? If so that will help absorb some of the sound so it doesn't get too "live". Also keep in mind your guests will be wearing lots of warmer clothes since it's Feburary (bodies and clothing will help absorb some of the sound too). That should help considerably. Some churches have acoustic panels that can be set up for just that type of thing. Although unsightly, they might be fitted into an unseen corner of the sancturary or balcony out of sight.
Can you tell I think you should go for it?

Re: Inspired by Belle*\'s Answer to #3 of the Big Fat Greek Wedding Thread
I'm one of the "no" voters. I think that if your DF doesn't want it, well, it's his wedding too. Marriage quite often means making compromises.
Ask your DF why he doesn't want the bagpipes. Maybe he's like me and finds them too whiney and squealy. Or maybe he associates them with funerals and parades. (I do) Or maybe he'll hear how much you want them and he'll compromise and decide what the heck. I'd have a bit of a concern about echoes.
There have been some really good points about how it could be one of those things you may regret if you don't have it so it's definitely worth finding time to talk with him about it.

I say go for it Rachel! You'll regret it otherwise. It's very unique and something you'll remember.

Re: Inspired by Belle*\'s Answer to #3 of the Big Fat Greek Wedding Thread
Jeezum Steve, that sounds like a giant church! I remember you saying you have 3000 in your congregation, but I didn't know they all sat there at ONCE!
Thank you so much for your continued support. I'm going to show DF this thread (he's on the road for a month, so it won't be for a while until we get the final word) and like I said, he's allowing me to plan the ceremony (he gets the reception) so I doubt he'll complain too-too much.
Seriously, I had swept the idea under the rug until the moment I read Belle*'s answer. And y'all are right: Life's too short for regrets! Thanks!
