Our Very Merry Kindschi Christmas Vacation Trip Report - UPDATED 4/23 - COMPLETE!! - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hopefully they'll have both nightly shows during their peak summer season. I've heard rumors that they've been cutting back on the number of shows/parades they are having. Hopefully you'll get a chance to see it in June! Thanks for reading!

OOOH! How fun is that? I've always wanted to surprise my DH with a trip! I hope you are able to make it happen! We usually go in the summertime so we are used to large crowds, and I was prepared for horrible crowds during Christmas week but I really didn't think they were bad. Although, I think crowds have been smaller in the last year in general due to people cutting back. Thanks for reading! It's exciting to get new readers!
what a great trip you are having

glad you made up for it by having a great time at the party
you got a lot of great pics of characters - I am super jealous

Day 4- 12/22/08 : AK & DDD for dinner at Raglan Road
Well Day 4 greeted us as the coldest day of our trip. I believe it was only in the high 40's/low 50. We headed off to Animal Kingdom for a day of Expedition Everest and shows! EE is my fav, as well as BFF's! DH doesn't do roller coasters, so I appreciate having someone to go with on the thrill rides! DH always forces me to go on them even when it's just the two of us because he know how much I them...I'm rambling! Back to the TR! Anyhow, we started a little later this day because we were pretty wiped out from our late night the night before. We had had a conversation the night before about how all of the rabbit characters from various movies were all very hard, or impossible, to find (i.e. Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh, Brer Rabbit, Thumper from Bambi). Low and behold, who is the first character we see in the entrance area of AK???? Brer Rabbit!!! So of course, we had to get our picture taken with him!
We also took some great pictures of the tree out front. It was gorgeous! (By putting this pic in, I realized I haven't been putting pictures of the other park Christmas trees in this TR...opps! )
As soon as we got into AK, we made a bee line for EE and got FP. From there we decided we would grab a bite to eat at FTBBQ I absolutely that place! Yumm-o! DH and I shared the 1/2 Chicken, DH also ordered a BBQ Pork sandwich and BFF got the 1/2 chicken as well. We took some funny pics of us freezing while we were eating lunch. I was wondering why I hadn't gotten a HOT chocolate by this time!
We obviously weren't letting it get our spirits down too much!
So after lunch, we headed over to Festival of the Lion King. DH hadn't seen the show on our summer trip because he had been sick on our AK day. So BFF and I knew we HAD to take him to see it. It is such a show. I love the Tumble Monkeys! After the show, we found TONS of characters out and about in Camp Minnie-Mickey. I also fell in with all the trees they had decorated around the Camp to represent different characters. I won't bore you with ALL of the pics of my favorite trees, but here are a couple of my favs!
Lilo's Tree
Goofy's Tree (I the colors!)
Us with Chip and Dale! Us with Koda & Kenai!
After mingling with the "stars" we were off to ride EE. BFF and I went to EE and DH went to find...I'm not sure what he did...I can't seem to remember. After riding EE we found a spot for the afternoon parade. This parade route has never been my favorite and always seems to cause so much congestion and chaos. Well, compound that with the increased crowd sizes and it was a recipe for grumpiness to creep in. I have never had so many rude people near me at one time in all of my vacations to WDW. I think everyone had a bug in their butt about the weather and the CMs who were trying to block off areas to route the parade. The CMs were even a bit...snippy It made for a less then fun experience, but I did enjoy the parade, as it is one of my favs and I had never seen the Christmas edition before. Here are a few of my fav pics from it:
Minnie's Jeep that smelled like gingerbread! Goofy's truck with everyone's stockings!
And Donald's boat with Huey, Dewy & Louis' stockings!
After the crazy parade, we headed out to RPW to see if we could find Jiminy Cricket. I adore Jiminy, and DH has come to him dearly too! We were very happy to see him out and about. We were bummed that we had not been able to track down DeVine during the day, so Jiminy made up for it a little bit!
Us with Jiminy!
After our train ride back from RPW, we headed over to EE for another ride. DH headed over to DinoLand, USA to grab some grub. After riding EE 4 times (we discovered the single rider line was nil, and we still got on next to eachother 2 times and on the same train once) we met him over in DinoLand for a snack. We had late dinner ressies at RR (Raglan Road) so we didn't want to eat too much!
After our snack we started to make our way out to Dinosaur but were disappointed to see that the wait was about 50 mins. We were sad. I really like that ride for some reason! It scares the bajeebers out of me every time, but I still love going on it! After our missed opportunity on Dinosaur & missing Nemo, again, we decided we should just head toward the exit and make our way over to Raglan Road for dinner. On our way out we decided to stop at Character Landing to visit Pooh and the Gang. We had a great time with them. It was the end of the night and they spent a lot of time goofin' around with us. I think BFF scared Tigger (or maybe he had a wardrobe malfunction ) because he made a quick exit right after we were done!
Snugglin' up to Pooh and Friends!
After our adventures in the hundred acre wood, we headed out to the bus to catch a ride to DDD for our dinner at RR. When we got to RR we got a table right near the stage (the only kind of seat to get if you ask me! ) and ordered our usual Smoky City appetizer and something else that is slipping my mind right now! Then we enjoyed our dinners and listened to our favorite band play for awhile. We finally bought the CD from the gift shop and I went up and asked them if they could sign it during one of their breaks. We love the atmosphere of RR and would recommend it to everyone! At least once! The live music is great! I love listening to the CD when I'm craving a little Disney (or Irish music!) So, our night ended on a good "note" (I couldn't resist!). Our last day was fast approaching and we wanted to spend most of it at Magic Kingdom. So "home" we drove and promptly crashed in our comfy beds!
Coming up next: Our Last Day , and our even worse trip home...will we be stuck in the airport for Christmas?
