Our Magical New York Wedding-- a Pixie Dusted Wedding and Honeymoon Report! - Page 19 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wow, you Lenore and your mom all look so much alike - too funny!!! Danny and I went and saw the Lion King when it first came out and was like impossible to get tickets. It was awesome I've never seen Little Mermaid, so I can't compare, but I totally recommend Lion King. Glad you all had a great time

Glad you liked Mary Poppins. It's coming here this year and I'd love to see it.
And I agree that Lion King is awesome! I've seen it twice here in St. Louis and was great both times. Hopefully Little Mermaid will make it here someday too.
Ok, I'm finally all caught up with who, what, when, and where What an amazing time you are having being a 'bride'. That's always my advice to anyone getting married. Take time to be a bride. Enjoy the parties and the planning. You only get to be bride once in your life. I must say that you are doing a marvelous job planning. Your day sounds like it will be wonderful!
Many, many for the final preparations for the big day and a life time of joy!
Thank you so much! I am going to do another update after this and you gave me a great idea with your words of wisdom!

Glad you had such a great time with your sister, mom and grandmother, looks like you had a wonderful time.
Thanks! I just really cant decide with the Lion King or Little Mermaid... we keep missing FOLK and I have been so bummed (3 trips now we havent seen it) and I feel like it would make me feel better about wanting to see that so much! lol! but on the other hand, the little mermaid is such a classic for me! I was like the age group it was geared towards when it came out so its special to me! lol!

Do you think Rob would like The Lion King? What did Danny think?? If I think Rob would like that would I would lean towards it cause I know he'd be simply appeasing me to go see The Little Mermaid! lol!

I wish Tarzan would come around! I never got to see it! I know it wont come back on Broadway but Id be happy with a local theatre production! lol!
Okay so the colors still aren't working but I realized I could just copy from old posts so I finally got the green working here!
In any case, last week was REALLY productive for wedding planning! I talked to our Priest and we are going to be meeting with him at the beginning of April since we have our Pre-Cana classes on March 14 (my birthday) and March 28th. Me and my mom met with the florist and we've used this as an idea and the florist said he is going to use the 5x5 container instead of the 4x4 that is pictured (it will be a little bigger) and he is going to add other summery greens and some different colored hydrangeas-- what do you think?
We also reserved a limo and I scheduled my hair and makeup previews for the first week in June-- oh and me and my mom and sister set up manis and pedis for 2 days before the big day!
The girls basic timeline for the day is going to look like this:
11:00am-- Leave for Hairdresser
11:30-2:00-- At salon for hair and makeup with bridal party
2:00-- Limo will pick us up at the salon and bring us to my moms house where we will get ready
3:30-- Photographer arrives for pictures at my moms
4:00-- Leave for ceremony
4:30-- Ceremony <3 <3 <3
6:00-- Reception
Its really starting to come together, right?
My mom still needs to get a block of rooms set aside at the hotel and me and Rob need to meet with the baker. We've decided that the guys will meet up at the hotel and the limo will come get them and bring them to the church before it comes to get me, my dad, and the girls!
My mom and I are going to try and get the favors done over my Spring break as well as printing all the invitations and programs. This way we will be ahead of the game-- it will be over 3 months away soon and my mom can then work on some of the other things she is doing (making the flower girl dress and ring bearer pillows for example).
OMG! And we got our Federal tax returns back this week! We currently have the money in our savings account to pay the balance of our honeymoon, as well as the next photographer payment! AND we purchased our honeymoon flights! I just love Jet Blue! So glad to be back flying with them! We are leaving from JFK and the flight will be direct to Nassau and take about 3 hours. Same with the return! Yay!
Okay and the last thing I want to share is some of our Table Number Cards. I made a total of 20. They are double sided and will print out at a 5x7 size. I upload them on the small side and since it would be 40 files to post front view and back view of them all I am just going to post about half a dozen now. This way you guys can get an idea for when you eventually see the table set up.
So as you can tell, the pics on the left are the front and on the right are the back. I will post more, or a list of the couples I am using once we decide and whatnot. It all depends on how many tables we end up needing, ya know? And we aren't going to print these right away either since we dont want to waste the photo ink. In any case, remember how the Engagement party had the subtle undertones of Once Upon a Time... and Cinderella? Well I want to follow that through to the wedding with Happily Ever After instead. So essentially each table is numbered and will feature a "Great Couple in History". Since I love the old hollywood throw-backs there is also a bit of that in there. Alot of the couples are from that era and we have a few songs on our must play list that are a throwback as well (like Andy Williams "Moon River", Jimmy Durante "As Time Goes By" and Louis Armstrong "Cheek to Cheek").
What do ya think?
Finally I though intead of just asking your opinion it would be cool if I could ask YOU something! If you had to give an engaged couple (or newlyweds even) one piece of advice about marriage, what would it be??
In any case, happy snow day and Ill try not to stay away too long before another update like I did last month!
Great ideas! I love the table #s!! Everything seems to be coming together.
I don't really have any advice for you. I'm trying to think of something someone told me. DH & I will be married 3 years in May so we're still somewhat newlyweds too. The only thing that comes to mind is to just enjoy each other.
Love the table cards ~ so dang cute and very creative!
One piece of advice besides 'enjoy being a bride' ~ it's hard to name just one. Hmmmm...
Have seperate bathrooms seriously it works for us.
Honestly the best advice is to 'play together'. Do something together that you enjoy whether it be a sport or dancing or Wii or puzzles. Whatever it is ~ always have something that you both enjoy that you can do together.

Whew. When you update it's always a doozie, Mel . . . . . First - yes, Rob will enjoy Lion King. Danny enjoyed it and I'm sure you and Rob will have a great time if that's what you choose.
Those table number cards are BEYOND AWESOME!! Seriously, I don't know what else to say about them. I am totally going to use that idea if it presents itself in the future (if it's ok with you, of course)
Also, I adore those centerpieces too! Are you going to have fruit in the water? That is super cute!!!
If I had to give any advice for an engaged/newlywed couple (I don't consider myself too qualified to give advice, cuz we've only been married 2 and a half years, BUT, we've been together almost 14 years) - always take some time for yourself. You will be together for the rest of your lives. It's okay to go out with your friends or by yourself and not feel guilty. And vice versa.
Completely awesome centerpieces!!!! The place cards absolutely are the cutest I've ever seen! You should be a wedding planner!
I can't offer any wedding advice I'm divorced. Only married for 4 yrs and my ex husband came back from his 2nd tour in Iraq and decided he didn't want to have a family anymore.
But MUCH love & happiness for you and Rob! From what I have read you'll have a beautiful future together!

I love the table number cards - they're awesome and the whole theme of it is wonderful.
As to advice, the best piece of advice we ever had was actually about the day - remember every small detail and try and find to talk about what's happened, as each of you will have had slightly different experiences and seen and noticed slightly different things and by comparing notes, you'll get a more complete view of the day. It does go by so quickly, after so much time preparing for it, so sitting down together and remembering everything is really important. It was great advice and I was very glad someone told us that before the big day.
, love, LOVE, the table cards! I've never seen anything like that.
Advice... hmmmm....
You've heard the country song "Live like you were dying"?
Kenny's Great Words Of Wisdom:
" Experience each day as if it was your spouse's last day on earth!"
In other words, in the grand scheme of things... "the argument usually isn't worth it."
Having experienced this first hand from both sides (losing my first wife to a brain tumor and almost dying on my second wife), I feel qualified to give this advice.
Thanks, Mel, for giving us an opportunity to participate in your plans!
Great ideas! I love the table #s!! Everything seems to be coming together.

I think something really special about Rob and I, well our relationship, is that we have really learned how to be together and be happy! I mean, we never would have made it through high school and college and the ups and downs. But we both grew and changed and had fun doing it together. That would probably be my advice to any couple too.

Thanks for the tips! I am really trying to bask in my bride-ness because I think I will be the person who misses it. Every once in a while when we have been doing a lot apart Rob will bring home a new game or I will plan a day away where it is just us to get us back on track! You are so right!

Thank you so much! I will post a list of all the great couples in history I chose if you would like. One of the really fun parts for me was just researching all these couples and their great loves! It was really special. (If I forget to post the list just remind me or email me and I will pass it along.)
Also, thanks for the advice. That is def something I have been trying to work on. I think I need to do that a little more! (Woodbury Commons anyone? lol!)

Aww... thanks for the compliments and well wishes! Sorry to hear about the divorce. Robs family went through something similar with his father leaving and its only now that he realizes what his mother did for him and appreciates her. Moms really are superheros sometimes!

I the table cards!! And hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers. I love the green and yellow of the lemons. Very very nice choice.
Advice, hmmm....LAUGH...my DH can always make me laugh and it truly seems to be the best medicine. We just celebrated our 10th anniversary in November and I still get butterflies when he walks in a room.
And for you...at the reception...step back...I mean literally. Take a moment and step off to the side and just watch for a moment. All of those people having a blast are there for YOU. They love you and it is amazing to share with them.
The one and only thing that I regret about my wedding is that I was soooo worried about getting everything to go the way I wanted it to that I forgot to sit back and appreciate or enjoy it!!!! So please Promise me that you will try and take the time to enjoy it!!!
the table cards & flowers! You are doing an awesome job at planning for your special day!!!
As for advice (I've been married almost 26 years to my high school sweetheart!!) Communication is #1, along with respect & trust!
