As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

on the order of occupational hazards
After reading Tara's occupation question I thought I would take it a little further..
What does your spouse/significant other do for a lving?
Also, do your kids have a job?
My DH is a CNA & is lucky enough to work for only one client AND at home! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] His Dad was hurt in a work related incident over 20 years ago & has steadily had one health problem crop up after another necessitating more skilled care (he's incontinent, wheelchair bound etc) .. We built an efficiency apartment for him off of our house & the workers comp insurance company hired DH to take care of FIL about 15 years ago. It's a win win situation for everyone.. (especially FIL~ who better to take care of you than family! [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img] )
Also, my DS who is 10 makes a little extra money by looking after the neighbors plants & garden when they go away ( which is at least once a month) AND he cuts another neighbors grass (with Dads help!)

John is a steam engineer - works at a wood fired power plant here in Northern NH. He is also a part time police officer, firefighter, EMT-I, state fire instructor, search & rescue team member....the list goes on. Sarah always says "My daddy has too much jobs!"
Amanda & Jennie babysit to earn extra money here and there, play in the summer town band - $10/concert!, etc.

He works on generators in the state of CT that send electricity to our homes. Kids dont work yet, but if it was up to me, they would be! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

My DH is currently an Account Manager for a hazardous waste disposal company.
He sets up the household hazardous waste days in several states, and consults with numerous companies on how to safely and properly (legally) dispose of their hazardous waste products.
Kids are a little young to be working just yet...

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Hey, sounds like my husband's job too!LOL!! Well, he isnt a sound engineer though(im not sure what that is, but it sounds like fun). He is in the Air Force. He will be leaving for 8 weeks this winter. That will be fun for all of us: NOT!!!!!
Ah well, thus is the life we have. He will be eligible to retire in 2 years and 6 months and HE HAD BETTER!!!!LOL!! |

My husband has a small family business. Three of my kids have jobs. My oldest works at Panera Bread Company, but will be going to college this week [img]graemlins/cry2.gif[/img] and will only do a work/study program while at school. My other two work at our local CVS and I love it!! [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img] They mooch a lot less money when working! Katie, the princess, [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img] will probably never get a job!! She doesn't even babysit!

DH works for the Government of Canada. He is an environmental technician. I always tell people that he cleans dirt. What he actually does is measure the level of contaminates (usually diesel fuel or mercury, occasionally old buried bombs) in soil, then hires a contractor to dig up the polluted soil, and fills in the hole with clean soil. He travels a lot to very remote northern locations like Tuktoyaktuk and Iqualuit and he's currently away for 2 weeks near Churchill, Manitoba (the polar bear town). His trip to the Magnetic North Pole earlier this month fell through at the last minute and I think he was a little disappointed about that. He has flown in just about every flying machine available to mankind, his favourite is helicopters. The North is terribly polluted so I think he's got really good job security.
So far my kids don't work.

DW is a project engineer for Alcatel until December. They're closing her division (Motorola bought it), so she will be laid off. My older DS is the itranet manager for Texas Instruments, his DW is an occupational psychologist. Our younger DS is lead programmer for a gaming company, and his DW is a teacher's aide in middle school in special ed.

DH is a Waiver Coordinator- he places staff and case manages for developmentally disabled adults who need care. He is also a full time grad student!

My wife is a stay at home mom and beginning this fall she'll be teaching Pre-School 5 mornings a week as all of our kids will be in school as of next Tuesday! [img]graemlins/cry2.gif[/img] She taught 1st grade in the public school system before having kids and she's done PT teaching in the mornings so that she is always home when the kids are home. Her new role will have her home by 1 PM every day now and the kids get home around 2:30 PM. Works out great.
Kids don't have jobs yet - too young still (although we do put them to work around the house!). [img]images/icons/cool.gif[/img]

DH works for a company that makes custom wheelchairs and ECVs. He works in the billing office and his title is DataServe Coordinator. He is in charge of scanning all of their paper documents into digital files. He also is taking over their intranet website design as well as doing much of the computer work for the office.
