As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

For a living I chase around a 3 and 5 yr old. [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img] On the weekends I moonlight as a HomeCare RN, been doing it almost 12 years now and enjoy it. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

I guess you could say that I am an office manager. I handle all the customer service via phone and am also a final proof reader at a small printing business. I have several other little jobs that I take care of too everyday. I like my job, although I probably won't have it anymore come October cause I'm pretty sure that after 22 years in the business they are going to have to close their doors. Business just isn't what it use to be and it's hard on little family run businesses. I'm the only non-family employee there.
If I could have any job I'd like, it would be to have my own book store! That would be a dream job!! [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

Well, most here know I started out as a CPA with intentions of climbing the corporate ladder to the top stepping on anyone who got in my way. But the Corporate America made me sick to my stomach and I ended up switching careers after 10 years to be a Corporate Recruiter. Spent 4 years with a National recruiting agency before opening my own business last year. It's a nice living, but not what I intend to do with the rest of my life. Just keeping my options open.

I'm a software developer for a large financial company. My job is SOOOOO incredibly boring and I feel like my brain is turning to mush.
I really would like to go back to working at a hospital in their IT department. But, the pay here is good along with advancement opportunities, benefits, etc. My family would think I'm crazy if I ever left. (I have a flexible work schedule that I work from home 1 day and am off on Fridays)
I'm trying to make a 10 year plan so that when I'm 35, my mortgage and any vehicle will be paid off so that I'm not a slave to my job. In the meantime, I'm going to let this company pay for an MBA.

I hate my job. I reception for the District Council of Carpenters, and while it might sound neat, it's dreadfully dull.
I really want to work as a writer or editor, but I haven't really been making the effort, I guess. Plus, those positions are always so hard to find, and to get! Grrr...
Hmm, back to the Monster Board!

I'm a design engineer, ever since I graduated college. It's starting to wear on me, and now that I have 2 kids at home, with one going to school next year, I'm looking at reducing my hours. But, the pay is good, I come and go as I please (which helps tremendously when you have sick kids), and I have lots of seniority. That may all take care of itself, since the company has been bought out, and most people don't expect us to be here in 5 years! That will give me the nudge I need!!

Well I think most everyone knows I work for an airline. It's a little airport (only 3 airlines) and we are cross-utilized. We work the ticket counter, gate, and ramp. I love my job because I know I'm really good at it and that's a good feeling. I also love the benefits that go along with it. [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img] The only thing I don't like is the potential for OJI's which I have had a couple of. It's very taxing on a body.
The best thing of course it being able to fly all over the country basically for free. If I did not have this job, we would not have been able to make our Disney trips, visit my friend in Ohio often, our go to the Boston Passporter meet next week [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img]

I test bank software. I go through all kinds of screens and paperwork to document where it breaks. I've only been doing it a month, and it's kinda boring but they let me set my own hours and it's nice to keep my mind untaxed so I can keep it sharp for my Paralegal courses (which I love.)
Best part about my job: no need to deal with phones, or the public, and I don't need to find coverage everytime I have to use the ladies room!

I'm now a Vice President, Manager of a new real estate company. It's exciting because we're developing a brand new concept. It's a lot of hard work becasue we are having to create everything from policy and procedure to training. The recruiting of new agents is very time consuming.

I had typed out that I do nothing, but I guess that isnt true. I stay at home w/my 12 year old and my 8 year old.
I used to want to be a missionary or join the peace corp, but then we got stationed in Turkey and I realized what life w/tons of critters, sparse electricity, non potable water and not wanting to know what you are eating was probably not the best life for me!LOL!! It did break me of my whinning habit. We have NO idea how well we have it!LOL!!
My husband is in the Air Force. I ask him what he wants to be when he grows up(retires) and he says anything that does not require green clothing!LOL!!LOL!!

I have two roles, first and foremost I coordinate the Help Desk for an IT consortium that supports all the community and technical colleges in the state. I'm the happy voice on the phone when the staff at the colleges have problems with the operating systems we developed for them. I'm the one who finds them the help they need. Currently we are in a huge project of re-hosting the entire system from a home-grown legacy system to a prettier, SQL based platform. I also recently took on the role of training coordinator when the woman doing it before decided to leave.
I don't love my job, but I do like most of the people I work with so that makes it okay. Plus, I never take anything home with me and that is a big bonus. And the benefits are awesome too.
If I wasn't doing this, I'd probably be working part time with animals somewhere and spending the rest of my time hanging out with DD.

I'm a very content Stay at home Mommy, but that doesn't mean I don't work just as hard as any other job I've ever had - some days harder and with no pay or benefits! [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img] I get to play with my little guy and volunteer in the community.
As a matter of fact, today I started La Leche League Leader training and got to co-lead a meeting. I'm also the fundraising manager for the group for the coming year. Very rewarding (fun) work that I can do with my son. [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

I am a RN Unit Manager in a long term care facility. I am responsible for a 40 resident unit, 24 hours a day,which means if someone falls and breaks their hip while I am on Peter Pan, it is still somewhat my responsibilty. I am responsible for staffing, budget,family issues, care planning, MD rounds etc. The hardest part is managing all the staff- not that I have THAT many staff, but they arent always easy to manage.
My FAVORITE job is being a mother to my two boys and being a stay at home mom, which I did for 10 years was the best!!!! Sheila
