Festing with the Mouse . . . and a gaggle of other people, too. **Updated 1/29** - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sara left shortly after our ride on EE so that she could relax a bit and grab some lunch before she had to head to DHS to co-host a Fantasmic dessert meet. So, Terri and I headed to the Kilimanjaro Safaris after we parted ways with Ms. Sara. There was a little English boy in the line for the Safaris that was PETRIFIED of going on the ride. No matter how many times anyone in his family told him that it wasn’t scary and that all we were going to do was ride around and look at the animals, this kid wanted NO part of it. Terri got to talking with him and found out that his favorite animal was the giraffe and told him that we’d see them and to keep an eye out. She also gave him a PassPorter Pal pin “for bravery”. We didn’t hear a peep out of him the rest of the ride! He seemed to really enjoy the ride once we got out there and he saw that what everyone was telling him about just looking at the animals was really true.
Terri took this picture . . . and when I saw it, I thought of Dyan and her animal butt pics.
Close encounters of the Ankole Cattle kind . . .
“It’s comin’ right for us!!!!”
After the Safaris, we were getting a bit hungry so we headed to Flame Tree BBQ for some lunch. We both ordered the ribs and . . . It was a lot of food but I thought it was TASTY. My DH is VERY picky about his ribs but even HE would have thought these ribs were delicious and a half. All in all it was a very good choice for lunch!
Terri forgot to take a pic of her lunch to show her trainer . . . so she grabbed a pic of my half eaten plate while I fed Evan.
After lunch we gave Lesley a call to see what she was up to and found that she, Eileen, Jill, Sharon, Bob and Larry were having some Yak Attacks for lunch (and some Y&Y food too, I think. ) so we stopped by and talked to them and Lesley kept an eye on Evan while Terri and I ran over to use our FPs for Everest that we had gotten earlier on in the day.
We zipped through the FP line the first time in about 1 minute and went right straight back in the FP line a second time and got through in about 2 minutes that time. I think it is safe to say that Everest ranks right up there with some of my favorite rides now . . . and to think I was scared of it until then.
Yet another ghetto cell phone ride photo . . . this time we were in the front seat of one of the cars where the “handle” is a little further away and the “wall” is lower. It scared the bejeesus out of me.
Once we had ridden EE twice and talked a bit more with Bob & Larry, the CLQ-1 and Lesley, we had to head out and back to the room as Terri had to hit the road back to Jacksonville so that she could teach (her last class of the term) the next morning. As we headed out of the park, we hit up just about every PhotoPass photog we found.
Petting baby Simba.
We got back to the room andTerri gathered what she needed to take home and headed out while Evan took a nap and I . . . took a nap. I didn’t really INTEND to take a nap, but Evan was so quiet and I was watching TV and I guess I was tired and I remember looking at the clock and . . . an hour and a half later, I woke up and thought “WHOA! Did I fall asleep?”
Evan took a super long nap and by the time he woke up, it was getting to be about dinner time. I loaded him up in the stroller and we took a walk down to the Hospitality House where I filled up my mug at Good’s To Go and took a look at the menu. Nothing really jumped out at me right then, so I opted to not eat there. Instead we grabbed a bus and headed to DTD. We wandered around and thorough a few stores, did our best impression of sardines while in World of Disney and took a few pics of stuff, including the new T-Rex restaurant.
Evan needed a bottle, so, despite the chilliness outside, we sat down so he could eat then took a boat back to OKW. Once we got back “home”, I filled up my mug again and headed back down to the room for the night. I got Evan into his PJs all while he slept like a little rock then followed suit not long after.
I never did end up eating dinner that night.
And did I mention it was COLD?!
COMING UP NEXT: Why did I get up at 4:45 and what the “h” was I thinking?!
Evan's face is priceless in the CP pictures. So precious! And how cool that Disney got you a new bottle.
Your castle pics are gorgeous! I'm glad you liked Everest. I haven't been back since it opened so I've never ridden. That will be remedied in September!

Great update. DTD is kind of fun to just wander aimlessly. I forgot to eat a few meals during MouseFest last year ~ too much to see and do. But I would've stopped for an EoS at DTD. I my Earl.

Oh gosh, more adorable pics of Evan! And if there's one thing I especially miss about the infant days, it's those marathon naps! No better excuse to take a super long snooze yourself. Sorry you missed dinner. And yes, I remember how cold it was. Brr!!!!
OMG, Sarah, Evan is so stinkin' cute! Love those pics of him with the characters at Donald's Safari Breakfast. He's the sweetest baby, and it was fun to watch over him while you & Terri were riding EE. And speaking of EE, love the ride photos! Glad you liked the ride too! More, please!

Just catching up, Sarah. Evan is adorable! Love the pics of him at CP. You can tell he didn't want to miss anything. Your PhotoPass pictures show just how gloomy those first couple days were--I got there on the 10th, too. I especially love your shot of the Tree of Life. What great detail! Looking forward to hearing more!
Yeah - we did have a little food with our FAB. Evan was so cute. He slept the entire time you guys were gone - even though I think of few of us ladies may have tried to jostle his stroller just a touch. I'd gotten some holding time in with him on Wednesday and Thursday, but this time I only got to gaze fondly at him. What a sweetie!
Love the pics. Evan is a doll. Your are brave to go by yourself. I don't think I could have done it when mine were little.
I love the EE pics and your comment regarding screaming one minute and laughing histarically the next.
Can't wait to read more.
