As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Oops! Forgot to add my hot dog preference. It's ketchup, just like Mark! I've been told that's what kids like on their hot dogs and adults usually go for the onions, mustard, relish, etc. Well, Im a big kid at heart, so ketchup only for me!
Also wanted to say how lucky you were to be able to see some of the leaves starting to turn in Central Park.
More, please! I want to know if you found a new Donkey at WOD and where else you ate and what you had. Please tell me that in a city of 60 Bazillion restaurants (that's a rough guestimate) you sampled more than a Dirty Dog, lol!

But Cheryl, we DID see the Dakota! When we exited the park by Strawberry Field, it was the Gothic building that I pointed out at the corner. I believe you even took pictures of it!

You know, I did think we had originally, then I looked at my map and it looked a lot further up the street than where we came out of the park, so I figured we hadn't. My goodness, I guess we jsut walked further than I figured...
More, please! I want to know if you found a new Donkey at WOD and where else you ate and what you had. Please tell me that in a city of 60 Bazillion restaurants (that's a rough guestimate) you sampled more than a Dirty Dog, lol!

The wind was getting stronger and so we speeded up a bit, as we figured a storm was coming our way. We kept debating about whether to get a taxi, but eventually Mark, the native New Yorker, said “we’re not that far from where we started.” Angie, the genuine native New Yorker, wasn’t convinced, but we kept going and we did see a lot of New York on the way in fairness. However, Angie was right. It was a heck of a hike back to World of Disney that probably took us about 20 or 25 minutes, with Mark still lagging behind us. Still, at least this time, he couldn’t say that I had been the one who wanted to walk this.

Finally we were at World of Disney.
As soon as we walked in, we saw Sue waiting for us. It wasn’t long before we also found Sharon browsing with quite a few selections already in her hands. We headed up to the third floor, as I wanted to see which characters were there. This is the coolest thing and I just wish that we had this at home at the Disney Store, as that would be so neat.
When we got there, I was delighted to see Minnie there in her Halloween outfit, with Pluto by her side. Minnie looked wonderful and I told her so. That just made poor old Pluto jealous, so I had to compliment him as well. We had so much fun with them. Mark asked Pluto to roll over for him and just like a good dog, he did! We ended up with some really neat photos with just the two of us and all five of us.
I will add here that there were also some nice Photopass pics taken, but I've only just ordered my Photopass, so I'll have to add those in when the CD arrives!
Then it was off to so some shopping! There are three floors here and I have to be honest, I was a little disappointed that a lot of the items are from theme parks and one floor was full of kids’ stuff – understandable I know, but it meant that we worked our way very quickly through it. The biggest disappointment though was the New York stuff. I just thought it was a bit basic and the designs weren’t as innovative as I was hoped for. Having said that, we got some nice pins, one of New York and one to vote for Chip and Dale, along with some Halloween beanies for our niece and nephew and one for us, but that was it. I think we escaped lightly out of there.
Then it was time to walk down to the restaurant, Serendipity 3, which was a few blocks away, but fortunately we were all chatting away the whole time, so the walk went quickly enough. I was saying to Sharon and Angie that I was finding New York a much calmer and welcoming city this time around than on my previous visits, which was a nice change.

Looks like you all were having a great time at the WOD...I do agree however that most of what you find is the standard fare, nothing "special" so to speak but it is a nice place to get a dose of "magic" when a trip is just not close enough. You can also get some good deals when the Disney Visa sends out the coupons...

Mark's insistence that you weren't far from where you started has me because it reminded me of my stepdad's insistence many years ago on taking shortcut back to the hotel we (him, myself, and my mom) and my aunt were staying at from a museum we had visited. My aunt was smart and went back to the hotel the same way we came. My mom and myself followed my stepdad on the shortcut that turned out to be the longer than the way we came cut.
Cheryl (and some props to Angie): Great report so far! You just have an eye for framing beautiful photos.
We've visited NYC a few times. Our only visit to Central Park must have been on the other end. We were staying down near FAO Schwartz (sp), and entered there. We definitely didn't see any of the landmark areas that you captured so well.
But our last trip to NYC (3 1/2 years ago), DD & I visited that WOD store. Your pictures really brought it back, and it made me sad that I'd traded away our NYC Pins we got there. I had one of the statue of liberty Minnie that's in your report. I think I might still have my t-shirt I got there though. It's sad that they've reduced the NYC based merchandise. That's what I really liked about that store.
Your pictures make me wanna jump on a plane to New York right now! I so wanna see this city! Sounds like you guys had tons of fun. I would've thought that there'd be a huge collection of NYC themed items at WOD, too. Weird, huh? Can't wait to read more!!!
OMG Cheryl... I just got all caught up. I sat here reading through part 1 and of course had to take a walk over here to part 2. Wow I can't wait to hear more about how your trip turned out.
