Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The "eyes" have it

Do you wear glasses? Contacts? Neither? (BTW if you wear neither, ) And when did you get them if you do?

I got glasses in the 3rd grade and have to wear them all the time (nearsightedness and astigmatism) Have tried contacts twice but to no avail. Just aren't for me.

Re: The "eyes" have it

got glasses in 2nd grade, switched to contacts in 9th grade, had to go back to glasses at 24 because of a chronic eye inflammation. only get to wear my contacts on special occasions now. VERY nearsighted. i'd get the surgery to correct it, but because of my ongoing eye problem i'm not a candidate.

Re: The "eyes" have it

Glasses here -

Got them for the first time in 6th grade - Mom felt like dirt - I went straight into a -200 lens, I think, severely nearsighted. "I can see leaves on the trees, Mommy" The optician couldn't believe I had that strong of a prescription without needing glasses earlier.

Wore contacts during senior year of high school and college - after a corneal abrasion - I switched back to glass at 25, and glasses ever since - up to a -400 now.

Thought about laser surgery - but sometimes it's fun to take off the glasses - Christmas lights are awesome - look like huge fireworks~

Re: The "eyes" have it

I got glasses when I was 22, but definitely needed them before that. Another case of computers ruining my eyes. I had 20/20 before I started working on them at age 21. Then when I was 23 I switched to contacts. I was getting married and didn't want to wear glasses but really wanted to see what was going on at my wedding (and make sure I was marrying the right person ). Now I only wear the glasses before bed and right after I get up on my way to put in my contacts.

Glasses since the 8th grade. However, I passed my drivers license test till 1985 at age 33 when I failed w/o my glasses. Lately though, I've moved on to bifocals.

Re: The "eyes" have it

Neither for me yet, although at times I feel like my eyesight is getting a little worse (after a lot of time on the computer). Generally all it takes is a week off from work and they are back to normal. Right now my eyesight is great and I attribute it to pregnancy. It was the same way when I was pregnant with DD.

Re: The "eyes" have it

Glasses when I was in fourth grade, but moved onto contacts by 5th grade. Usually wear my contacts everyday unless I rip a contact or my eyes are bothering me due to allergies. The prescription is sooooooo strong that my glasses give me a headache (very heavy on the nose, and the lenses are considered "featherweights" ).

Re: The "eyes" have it

I've been wearing glasses/contacts since high school.

Started with glasses, moved to contacts in college, and recently switched back to glasses during my last pregnancy (contacts didn't fit correctly due to eye "swelling" during pregnancy ).

The contacts would probably fit again, but my prescription has run out, and I haven't gotten around to getting it renewed.

So...currently wearing glasses.

Re: The "eyes" have it

Glasses since I was 13, so just a little more than half my life. I was so excited, now I could look like the rest of my family
Tried contacts in the 9th grade, but after having one rip in my eye, I went back to my glasses. I'm so 'jealous' of my DH, he doesn't have to wear them all the time
But if I want to see, I need to!!

Wendy

Oh, BTW, my niece, Celeste, has worn glasses since she was less than 6 months old(she's 9 now), now tell me, how in the heck can they tell when babies need glasses?? Course, it could've been because of her lazy eye. She reminds me of Sophia from the Golden Girl! Bless her!

Re: The "eyes" have it

I got glasses when I was a kid (mild nearsightedness and astigmatism) but never wore them much until I started college. I can still pass my driver's exam without my glasses but I enjoy seeing clearly (better than 20-20 with the glasses)so I wear them all of the time now except to read.

The doctor told me not to fool with laser eye surgery. I'd get rid of my glasses for now just to end up needing reading glasses in 10 years.

I've worn contacts for almost 25 years, ever since I was 16. I had to get glasses when I was in the 3rd grade.

Re: The "eyes" have it

I got my first pair of glasses at the ripe old age of 5. Bifocals, too. I'm pretty much legally blind now. I switched to contacts when I was 15. My vision? 800/20. Bryan's is 10/20, so our kids better inherit from HIM and not me! I'm finally a candidate for Lasik (my doctor wanted me to have a stable prescription for 5 years.) But I'm not so sure about the whole laser-eye part of it...

Re: The "eyes" have it

First got glasses in 2nd grade, switched to contacts when I was 14 and have been wearing them ever since - 32 years!

I DO NOT go out of the house without putting my contacts in - I never wear my glasses because my eyesight is so bad that I really don't see as well with glasses.

Lately I have added reading glasses to my contacts and I wear both pairs of glasses when I am reading in bed at night. Guess it is time for bifocals...

Re: The "eyes" have it

Glasses at the end of 7t grade, contacts at 16 (my B-day present), Have switched back and forth for 20 years. Mostly glasses, but I wear contacts when w go boating as glasses get wet.
Nearsighted and astigmatism.

Sis had glasses at 2 (cat eyes ) she was severly fasighted and as young kids, I made fun of her. Her eyesight corrected at about the time mine took a nose dive !
She is now better than 20/20

Re: The "eyes" have it

Got glasses in the 6th grade, now I wear contacts with no problem! I really enjoy my soft contacts, and the only time they bother me is in a waterpark after a long day of chlorine and water!
