Our Disney Vacation with Fay and the Crab Assasins - COMPLETE!! - UPDATED 9/16 - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like you covered a lot of ground at Epcot. Soarin' is an incredible attraction. In fact, it was my very favorite until I tried Toy Storia Mania at DHS, which is amazing! Glad you enjoyed the rest of WS, including your dinner... what you had left of it, that is! I'm a little nervous about your move to Vero Beach. Come back with more soon, please!

There was good reason for me to be nervous. Tune in for my 4am freakout!!
Great update. I feel the same way as your mom with the new rides. It took me several times to really like Test Track. This last trip was the first time I can say I now love that ride. Soarin' to me is a cool ride. I like it a lot but the hype still seems to be a little overdone. Mission Space surprised me at how much I liked it for my first time (I did the non-spinning version). But there's so much to take in I'm sure I will like it even more the next time. Expedition Everest was a little disappointing to me, I guess I expected the ride to last longer. And Toy Story Mania? Cool, but I didn't like all the spinning. Somehow I knew nothing about that aspect of the ride and I could have done without it.
Anyway, back to your trip, I can't believe you'll be leaving tomorrow! I wonder how much of the parks you will see before you head off to Vero Beach? Looking forward to hearing about 4 a.m. although it doesn't sound very fun.

Well I'm just getting all caught up and I have to admire the stamina your family has! I really loved the picture of your mom and Pooh! The look on her face is just priceless! I can't wait to find out how Vero Beach was. Hopefully your 4 a.m. freak out wasn't as ominous as it sounds!
Finally got a chance to read and get caught up on your Trip Report!! I was thinking about you and your family during Fay, and am waiting anxiously for your next installment - cause I know how it was in WDW, can't imagine how it was on the coast!! We really enjoyed meeting you and your DH on the 17th!! And it cracked me up too that all the husbands were forming that "support" group! My DH is peeking over my shoulder and told me to send his hello's to your DH!!
Just found this TR and am on the edge waiting to hear about Fay. Every TR makes me wish that I was at WDW. There are a few, however, like yours, that make me want to be there with the person writing the report. Your family sounds like a lot of fun and able to keep the magic flowing even through the bumps in the road. Never been to Kings Island, but I think I understand your DH's reaction. You may have been been to amusements parks before, and you may have had fun there, but Disney is in a class by itself.
Oh....by the way.I just turned 50 this year and can commando like a 25 year old!!

I agree MS was enjoyable! I can't believe I am leaving "Today" at 4 a,m. either!!

Isn't my Mom cute! She was so much fun! (even in the rain!) Any freak out that happens at 4 am qualifies...but I will give you a little spoiler, Disney magic isn't over yet!!

Thanks rafti! This is my first trip report and I am trying to keep it interesting for you, and make it complete, since I know there are some of you OCD planners who really like the details {pointing at christijoy!}. I am planning on printing it out when I finish it and adding it to our Disney Trip Scrapbook! I told nearly asleep hubby about you and he said he only has to keep up with me, so as long as he can go like a 40 year old he's happy! Unless you have a magic pill? In that case, he wants you to meet him at the next PP meet and bring the stuff.!! Ok, this has been fun, but I better get back to the TR!!
Glad everyone enjoyed Soarin - even with the swinging hanging feet
Dinner sounded very yummy...I really enjoy teh CS in Morocco but we did not get a chance to stop last time...glad your son tried some "new" stuff and really enjoyed it (even though he ate your dinner )
I share the same birthday as your daughter, Sept 20, though a different year of course.
Marakesh is one restaurant I keep debating trying as I am not sure how I would like it. One of these days I am sure I will try it.
....there had been rumors around the parks that they would close tomorrow since the wind speed on the back wall of Fay was over 5Omph now. But I figure rumors are rumors and grow with each person that passes it and there are thousands of people standing in lines in the parks with nothing else to do but talk about all this to each other, so. I remained somewhat hopeful. When we returned to the room it was only about 9pm and kiddos noticed pool was open, even the slide. ONly in Disney! So hubby took them down to the pool. I lingered in the room with the remote and staitened up the suitcases. Madonna3 I really must disagree, the weather channel is the real Devil! Seriously, they were talking about 60mph winds out in Fort Pierce, and saying that the whole area from Cape canavaral to Fort Pierce was going to get hit hard with up to 20 inches of rain, they interviewed mayors etc. These officials were giving speeches about what emergency services they were getting ready for the residents !!! So I decided to call Disney's Vero Beach resort to see what I should do. The message light on the phone was blinking, it was the Disney folks saying that in order to best accomodate their guests so that they would have as much access to the parks tomorrow as possible, they were opening all the parks at 8am. Yes, all the parks. So I figure that means only one thing. They think they will need to close the parks at some point tomorrow! So I call Vero. A nice young man talks with me, and I explain who I am, where I am, and that I am supposed to head his way in a matter of hours. He says, "UMmmmmm" not a good sign I thought. I asked if it was flooded there. He said "no, not yet." Another bad sign. So I asked if I would be able to get there at all. and he paused and then explained that he didn't know if he would get OUT of there tonight. They had been informed that the ONE bridge out to the mainland, would close in winds over 45mph. He had been told he may have to stay there. Oh CRap! He explains that his boss the head manager is not there, and wasn't expected back till 7am. {wait a minute I thought the bridge was about to close} He said he would have the manager call me as soon as he came in. Well, what could I do. I went down to the hot tub with a drink!! Which is what I did. Mom and Dad came back from MK and we said hello, and I said that I was worried and she said she was worried about thier flight out tomorrow. But the airlines said the flight wasn't cancelled. So we arranged a late checkout for them 1pm. We figgured we could move our stuff to their room at least and see what happened with our room and their flight. We all went to bed. At 2am I woke up to lots of wind. I looked out on the balcony and it was raining very hard and the wind was really blowing. I stepped out on the balcony(our balcony room 5021 is under the roof overhang and was always dry) and saw SANDBAGS, seriously they had sandbags by the double doors above roaring fork. and by sone of the other balcony doors. Minor Freak out getting worse! More weather channel woes, then I begin thinking about trying to drive our rental car down the highway in a near hurricane, with my children in the back AHHHH MAJOR FREAK OUT! It's 4am and I cannot wait any longer for the Vero beach manager. I call Vero, uh oh, same young man. He tells me that I should talk to WL manager, he does not recomend coming there today. I get dressed, somehow through all of this my family never really woke up. I go downstairs, I explain my situation to the very nice woman at the desk. She tells me she doesnt think they can keep us another night. But,she calls for the MOD. I am in a complete panic, my heart is beating and I am frantic. I planned this whole vacation. It is supposed to be our dream Disney Vacation. What do I do.The head of housekeeping, such a nice woman is MOD for the night and listens to my situation. I ask if there is any way they can change todays ressie from Vero to WL for the night. She tells me she will have to see what can be done. She tells me to sit down and wait. After an agonizingly long few minutes, she comes out and assures me that my family can remain in WL and even stay in our currant room. At this point I cried again! I hugged her thanked her and cried some more. She said she can even, because of the circumstances keep us till Friday. But I have to decide that right now. They are filling up tonight, and she expects MANY MORE check ins due to the storm WHAT.? Ok. decision time. UMMMMmm. I really felt safe at WL and there was still a lot to do. I hate driving in storms. But My DKids wanted to see the ocean. How long would the storm last. It was only Tuesday. I would be gone by late wednesday. surely. Decision made. I told her I would be so thankful to stay one extra night but that it should be alright by wednesday afternoon. We would go to Vero then. Good. Another half hour to redo puters, cut new keys, etc. etc. Back in my room at 5:30am and I sleep. Disney Magic? I think so. whew! Next up What will Tuesday bring? I promise it does get better!
