Run Ria Run –The 5K Weekend Warrior PTR *Updated September 22* - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Way to go on the weight loss! You will not believe how it will pour off when you start running for longer periods of time. A couple of years after Mary Devall was born, I started building up from walking to running and was amazed that I could actually do it!
Good luck with your training and I can't wait to read more! How cool that you will be living in Orlando!
How awesome for your brother! I bet it's helpful for you to have him there to help guide you! I wonder if your brother has heard of my friend. Matt at the 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials
I'm so glad that we inspired you to do this somewhat. I remember when we first started posting NO ONE was interested. But, now its building and its great to share this with fellow PP's.
A few comments I LOVE abita beer...actually turbo dog is my fav*L* I think Louisiana put out the best american beer i've ever had with that brand!

Thanks! I am surprised that I can run at all so if I finish this 5K it will mean a lot to me.
We are excited about the move to Orlando.

I am going to have him check this out to see if he knows him.
**possibility of one of Ben and I’s best friends Jake…he was the best man at our wedding… coming with us because it’s his birthday that week and airfare on SW from New Orleans to Orlando are pretty cheap.**
three three of us
My only problem with Jake coming is that he is a smoker, so is Ben and so was I until a couple of months ago. I finally quit for good and Ben really cut back. I don’t mind the fact that Jakes smokes as long as it doesn’t interfere with our plans…I keep thinking about all the smoke breaks that Melissa and Andy had to deal with on there trip with there friends recently .
As much as I want Ben to quit smoking I know he will do it because he has a desire to quit…he also never imposes or makes me change my plans for him to have a smoke break I don’t think it will be the same with Jake…we will see.
Now the where:
We are not entirely sure yet…Ben and I have this crazy plan to stay at every WDW resort at least once during our 3 years living in Orlando…we may not be able to do it but we are going to try…even if some are just for one night.
So we are thinking about staying at our old faithful the Pop Century…it clean, its fun, and we really like it there. We are also considering the Coronado Springs…so we will see.
And the Whats:
-run 5k
-Toy Story Midway Mania
-the updated SE
-F&WF
-Relaxing by the pool before race time
I made my ADR’s today b/c lets face it that’s the most important thing...
I know you are all thinking how much fun is it for someone trying to lose weight at WDW…well so far I am not so worried. I have a motto...FEAR NO FOOD (except pickled eggs…yuck) …I just looked over the menus on allears.com and decided where I can make the best choices.
My two biggest problems as far as food goes include:
-Buffets
-All you can eat scenarios
So I just didn’t make reservations at any of these kinds of places.
And now I invite you to relax, let us pull up a
chair as I proudly presents -
my dinners!
OK that was just a little cheesy but here we go…
September 26 Friday
We will be arriving in WDW at 5:00 PM
Check in to our hotel.
We will head over to pick up my race packet at the Wide World of Sports
We have dinner reservation at Spoodles (never been) for 6:45 PM
We then plan to head over to EPCOT for evening EMH
September 27 Saturday
EMH morning at MGM
Lunch 12:00 PM Mama Melroses
Afternoon relax by pool/shake in my boots from fear of 5K
(Jake and Ben will probably head to MK during this time.)
Run 5K
Party all night!!!
September 28 Sunday
Breakfast at Kona Café! @ 9:00 (yes I am having the stuffed French toast)
Rest of the day at EPCOT enjoying the F&WF
Head home that night!
**please note that I took the carb loading serious lol…I love pasta anyway**
adr's sound great
I don't want to be stick thin either - I am already down 3 pant sizes so maybe one more and that will be it - I was a size 8 when I got married over 9 years ago - almost that but not really
hurry back with more please -
we love love pop 2
Maria, I am so happy to see that you have started your TR.
Great job with losing the weight and on the progress with the C25K program. I am excited about the race and can not wait to (hopefully) meet everyone.
How cool that you will be moving to Orlando. And congratulations on the job. I know that makes the move a little less stressful since you don't have to job hunt.
You are so awesome! Losing all that wieght... a 5k planned... AND quitting smoking! You and Ben seem to be making all the right choices for your health! And I know how you feel... except that Rob and I aren't married (yet)... no day but today to be your best self!
Great ADR choices! We thought Mama Melrose was great fun! Like a mom and pop pizza place in Little Italy... and Kona Cafe was one of my bfast choices too... until I realized it would be my only way to meet characters would be at bfasts this year!
First: try turbo dog, i think it was the best but its completely your taste in beer of course Tell me what you think!
Okay so YAY i'm sure that we will see each other considering we are going to EPCOT EMH too! Load up on carbs and all and Tammy will be there too! who knows maybe DEE161 will be there too and that would be awesome!
We too have Breakfast ressies at Kona on Sunday but i think its for 10am??hmmm
I want to say congrats on the smoking thing,....my mom and best friend are admist quiting smoking and lord help them for sure! Its been hard for them but they are both doing well.
I think your plans look great so far! Dinner at spoodles is the best for sure yummmmmy! And i love POP...it has a soft place in my heart since we always seem to stay there once a year. But i like coronado too but it was a bit more spread out....
and last but not least i loved the reference to be our guest...i actually thought it was brillant*L*
Cant wait to hear more and i'm right here with ya counting down!
LOL! Yes, us Florida people write TR's as well. Heck, we even get to write day-trip TR's! Now that usually makes everyone but it's so much fun!
I am so glad that I can still write TR's! Its one of my favorite things to do I love reading them and writing them.

Thanks! I am taking it all one step at a time...if you do something that deprives you to much you never stick with it...so its one day at a time for me...but quiting smoking was the best decision that I have made in a loooonnng time.

I will definitely give it a try...do they sell it everywhere?
As crissy said....we are sure to meet up. It seems our plans are matching yours. Spoodles is new to me this year. You will have to let me know what you think. as far as that goes, so is Kona...but I know I want the stuffed french toast, too.
Your plans look great. I totally am with you on the carb loading. I totally plan to do that. I am so excited that all our plans are starting to come together and over lapping some. I look so forward to meeting you and Ben.
Oh, and congrats on the cessation of smoking. I never use big words like cessation. I am cracking up at myself for writing in the first place.
