As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

My birthday is usually just dinner with the family.
Andrew has been having a party with friends and his cousins at a local establishment for the past couple of years. I'll probably continue this until he's too old and birthday parties aren't cool anymore.
I actually had a birthday party for the first time in YEARS last October. We called it a HalloWeenie Roast. Weenies, s'mores, and beer.
Walt prefers not celebrating his birthday.
DMIL usually has a birthday dinner for DJ every year and we do a big "friend" party every 2 or 3 years. I'm going to Magic Meets the Saturday after his birthday this year. So, I think DJ and I will go to 'Movies in the Park' night to celebrate and ride the carousel since DH is working on DJ's birthday this year.
The kids get dinner out at their favorite restaurant. Then, whenever it works out in the schedule, they get a party with friends, including cousins, aunts and uncles that is usually some elaborate theme that they are interested in that year. I'm working on an Indiana Jones party as we speak.
My birthday falls around Thanksgiving, so every year it's a bit different. My favorite was three years ago at DL! I got all sorts of special treatment. Usually, in our family, the birthday person chooses a restaurant of his or her choice, and gets a nice gift or two. The kids parties have been scaled back considerably as they've gotten older. Usually just a friend to the movies, spend the night, that sort of thing.

I like to spend my birthday at Disney, as I can't think of any better way to celebrate than in my happy place with my donkey, so we go whenever we can.

My family accuses me of stretching my birthday out for long as possible - it's true. I have a family party - my mom or grandma cooks a meal of my choice (usually grills hot dogs or makes spaghetti/lasagna/chicken 'n dumplings) and all my immediate family comes over for dinner, gifts and cake/ice cream (we do this for each family member). Then I have a friends party - usually includes dinner or some activity (like golf or movies or whatnot) and a couple of hours at a bar. Last year I had a big, 30-person dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant. If I happen to decide to have a significant other around my birthday, then we will probably also do something separate like dinner. (I try to avoid having a SO around my birthday, though, because Christmas is about a month later and really, what a pain ).

Seriously though . . . birthday celebrations . . .
DD gets a party with her friends . . . DH and I ususally don't do much. For MY birthday this year (*cough*Oct. 15th) I will be celebrating with my new baby (assuming he isn't overdue) and my PARENTS and SIBLINGS (for the first time since I turned 19 years old.
DH will be celebrating my birthday by floating around on the ship somewhere in the world . . . HIS birthday in February (and our anniversary a week later) will be spent in the Persian Gulf . . . and DD's birthday in March will be spent sailing HOME from the Gulf.
Yet another reason we're going to WDW in May . . . LOTS to catch up on celebrating.
DD has a party with her friends, usually a sleepover and then another one with the family. DH and I celebrate by going out to dinner and getting a few presents. I think I need to suggest to DH that for my birthday I want to go and celebrate it at WDW!! That would be an awesome B-day present!
My birthday's in the middle of summer. DH usually grills dinner and we hang out in the pool. Once in a great while we'll go out for dinner, but summer and Cedar Point means major crowds and it's not worth the hassle. I get a card from DH, and cards from my parents and in-laws with $20/25 in them, and DS buys me a small gift, but that's all. I think my last actual birthday party where I had a cake was when I was 19, about 27 years ago.

Birthdays are not usually big affairs. When the DSs were younger, they would get a party with friends on the odd years. A couple of times we have been in WDW around their birthday and we celebrated there.
For me, my mom usually takes me out to dinner. DH would send me flowers because he was always out of town on my BD.
Happy Birthday Rob!!!! The kids get a party with friend's and family and then a special birthday dinner on their actual birthday. I always make a cake for DH, but we stopped having parties. For my bday, which was a week and a half ago, we usually don't do anything anymore. I'd rather save the money and put it in our Disney fund!
