My first trip-report: Double Dip Castaway Cay 5/18-5/22 ** Updated 6/14** - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great update! the trip to Atlantis was a disappointment and that you weren't feeling well after your appetizer. Can't wait to hear what tomorrow brings!!
I agree with you on the Discover Atlantis.....we did the early one and had no problems getting back, but it's not something I'd do again Sorry you weren't feeling well
After my rough night of stomach issues I finally fell asleep and slept until 7:30 when the engines started again. Since we were up we decided to get up and shower and get packed for the 2nd day of fun at Castaway Cay. I dragged my DH to Triton's for breakfast because I wasn't getting off this cruise without eating french toast. I have an obession with french toast. I love it. When we got there we were brought to our table we overlooked our menu. At my DH's first look at the menu he got upset and said there wasn't anything for him to eat. He didn't notice the eggs that came with bacon, ham and hash browns. I showed it to him and that's what he had along with a danish and some OJ. I, as you can guess, had my french toast with grilled pineapple and fruit with strawberry syrup and a danish and tomato juice. It was so very tasty. Very different too. But good.
When we were stuffed, we rolled off the ship and decided to go get our snorkel gear. After we were packed up all our snorkel gear we headed over to Serenity Bay. I decided to just lay in a chair today since we did the hammock the first day. We set up our stuff under an umbrella and layed there once again and listened to the waves crash against the shore. (I can still picture it after all this time...keep in mind it was about 3 weeks ago.) We people watched which is always fun and relaxed. I kept finding really odd shells and coral in the sand so I made DH take pictures of everything I liked. It is truely paradise there. The weather today was great too. Less humid than Monday and it was just picture perfect. I wanted to go for a walk down the beach so we did. It was so peaceful, even though there were alot of people there. When we ended up back at our chairs I was warm and decided to go swimming for a bit. After I felt refreshed enough we decided we were hungry. Now my DH does not like to eat at Serenity Bay. Even though they were serving different food today from Monday. One of the things I wish I had was shrimp skewers. They only served that on Serenity Bay. We went over to the family beach again. Now let me tell you that much to my dismay they WE NOT serving shrimp skewers. I was very upset. They had different things today than Monday. They had more salads, ribs and seafood gumbo, which was great and dessert.
After lunch we headed back to our stuff at the family beach. DH wanted to snorkel so we did and I was tired of doing that so I got out to get my float and went next to him in the family beach. I really don't like it there since it's too loud. I like Serenity Bay because it's quiet. We spent alot of time in the water because I knew it was our last day. We got out of the ocean and went to check the time. It was a little after 3pm. We decided to head back to the ship then. It was so sad getting into the tram for the last time.
When we got back to the ship we showered and got dressed and then went to get a snack of some fruit and ice cream. Tonight was "Disney Dreams: An Enchanted Classic" in the Walt Disney Theater and we had to go before dinner since tonight we were dining at Palo. Disney Dreams was great as usual. A few nice changes. Our cruise director, Clayton, came on at the end and was telling us his 'dream' that came true. We had been his first cruise that he was cruise director for. Great job Clayton!!!!!! He was getting very emotional, but our dinner was like in 10 minutes and we had to go. So we didn't hear his whole story.
We high tailed it to Palo all dressed up. I must say we looked very nice. I do have to say that my DH and I agreed that it was a bad choice to go on the last night since the ship was swaying so much. We barely could enjoy our meal. We were cruising at 18.5 knots, the fastest speed we would travel on this trip. Palo was very nice. It would have been better if the ship wasn't swaying. That killed the dinner. Here's what we had:
ME: shrimp appetizer
tomato and mozzerella salad
shrimp, muscles and scallops with saffron risotto for dinner
raspberry gelato for dessert-the BEST thing I had there!!!!!!!!!!
DH: tomato and mozzerella salad
minestrone soup
beef tenderloin
chocolate soufle for dessert
It was all really good, but with the swaying of the ship it was SO hard to enjoy.
After dinner we wobbled back to our room to pack and then go to bed for our early departure in the morning. We did sleep good tonight to be waken up all to early in the morning to go home. So ends our last day on the seas.
Oh so sorry about the ship's movement! Sounds like you had a wonderful relaxing day on CC! I know what you mean...for weeks after CC, I could close my eyes and almost smell the breeze......since that has faded, I know it's time to go again!
Thanks for sharing.
Aside from a couple little set backs it sounds like you had a great time as well. We had a GREAT time That last night was a little rough, wasn't it? I thought I saw your room number flash in front of me during the boat drill in Animator's Palate (wow, was that noisy or what?), but I didn't get a chance to find you again and introduce myself I'm glad you had a good time.
