As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I am trying to figure out what the best way to buy the 1 day / 2 park pass to US/IOA. This will be our first trip to USF.
We will only be spending one day...I know we will only get a taste of what USF has to offer...but that is what works for us this time....and we are going into it with that attitude. We know we will love it and want more time to go back in the future.
I have looked at Maple Leaf Tickets...and they are the cheepest...if I have them shipped to my house.
USF's web site is cheaper if I just print them at home or at the kiosk at the parks.
What has everyone else done in the past? Is a ticket I print at home just as easy to use as a park ticket that is sent to me?
Any advice would be great!...and thanks in advance for all the help I know I will get.
We've ordered our USF tickets online and printed them out when we got there. It worked fine, but we did have to wait a few minutes for a kiosk to open so we could print them out.
We ordered our Sea World tickets online in 2002 and printed them out at home and took them with us. They worked just fine. All they really need is the barcode.
I've bought mine online and picked them up at a kiosk in front on the gate. It was easy, and that way I didn't have to worry about forgetting the tickets! Last year I bought our tickets on the AAA website, and they mailed them to our house.
I know you said you only had 1 day to do Universal, but did you notice that a 7 day ticket is only $5 more than a one-day, two park ticket? Quite a good deal!
We plan on doing the same thing for our trip coming up. Only one day to try and get a taste of both Universal parks. We thought we'd do the Universal Pass Plus so we could skip to the front of the lines and see more, but at the end of January, they were already sold out of them for our trip in June! I guess it's just like how they run out of Fastpasses early during busy times at WDW--not 4 months before, though! Just a bummer. I hope it works out for you guys!
we used an entertainment book coupon and print them at the kiosk at the park, i was worried i would lose it! Check with your company too, my DH works for UPS and he get a great discount on alot of things, park tickets one of them, but i didn't want to ship them cuz i was worried they wouldn't get here in the 3 weeks we needed them. But it would have been $50!

Actually, the Universal Express Plus passes are available during your visit. If you're arriving in Orlando in 73 days, you'll be there around June 30. We would probably do several days at Universal...but my DS 11 is the biggest chicken on the planet... ...so the goal for this trip is for him to get a feel for the parks...so he will want to come back in the future. (We let him be the chicken he is...and only insist that he walk through the queue with us...and then he is free to take the chicken exit...)
For all of those who shared info on the Universal Express Pass... We will be there in what I think is the off season...May 6...and it is a Tuesday...so I am not to worried about crowds. We are using Sunray Trasportation to and from the park...and plan to be at Universal around 8:30am on a day when the park opens at 9am. We are going to IOA first to hit the biggies before the bulk of the people arrive. We will catch shows at both parks in the afternoon...and then catch the biggies at US in the last couple of hours before the park closes. I think it is a plan that will work...and we will miss stuff...and that is OK...we will catch it next time. If I am off base on any of this though your input is greatly appriciated.
Stephanie, you've won half the battle - sounds like you've got your plan made and ready to put in action! I hope your DS enjoys himself enough for a longer return trip next time!
The only thing about going in May is that seems to be field trip time. I'm not sure about the first week of May, but I've been there around the middle of May and there are a lot of schools/classes around. A little pre-emptive advice just in case they're there when you are: they mostly seemed to travel in packs (you can tell by the matching school t-shirts), so if you find a crowd, just go somewhere else for a little while and when you return and you'll probably find a more manageable wait.
you can always buy the express pass at the park if you come to find you need it. I'm putting some money in my budget for it-just in case!
Also, I am also a major chicken when it comes to rides, and I was fine at most rides at both (alot i didn't even try!) Remember the mummy ride is like a roller coaster, i thought it wasn't and almost went on and it would have freaked me out so much I wouldn;t have gone on any other rides! Spiderman is not scary at all, make him go on it!! (IOA)

GoofyMom...thanks for the input on the field trips! We have been to WDW for the last 3 years about this same time...and I have noticed the field trippers...especially at EPCOT. I hadn't thought about them being at USF...but they have never been a problem for us at WDW...so I am sure we will employ our usual avoidence plan......if we see them at USF.
lela12982...thanks for the advice on the rides! We will make sure we get him to do Spiderman! I know he will love both parks...now we just have to make him believe it...
