As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm ordinarily the party-planning queen in my family. BUT - my MIL has asked me to co-host the baby shower for my BIL's baby mama (who will hopefully be my soon-to-be SIL shortly ). DMIL is hosting and paying for the decorations and food. All she's asked of me is to plan the games, decorations, and the schedule for the day. BIL's baby mama, Cay, knows about the shower, so I was able to pick her brain a bit for ideas. They "know" they're having a boy (I try not to roll my eyes at the ultrasound results ), they're decorating the baby's room in a Classic Pooh theme, and Cay has said she'd like a green and yellow shower. I already found some cute Baby Pooh decorations in yellow and green at Party City - Party Supplies, Decorations, Favors, Scene Setters, Invitations, Accessories - Party City. Type in "pooh" in the search box to see the rest.
I'd like to make some decorations, too. Maybe some of those asian paper party lanterns and some tablecloths. The tablecloths I can whip out in no time with my sewing machine, but I just can't find those paper lanterns anywhere.
Anyone have any other ideas for decorations (cheap ones ) to lend a kind of Mad Tea Party feel to the shower?
DMIL says she's taking care of the cake. I'm also going to make a diaper cake. I got one at my shower and I loved it! It's a cake made of diapers rolled around each other into big wheels. Each layer is made of a different size diaper and little toys and baby goodies are tucked into the layers to make it look like a big fat greek wedding cake or something. Here's an over-the-top one I found online:
DBIL is getting a daddy diaper tool kit, also. Tool belt, goggles, rubber gloves, wipes, diapers, and 18" stainless steel tongs.
One last question: What are your favorite baby shower games? I know a few from my shower and some others I've been to, but the baby food in a diaper game does not appeal to me.

Wow, that is a cool looking diaper cake. I've been out of the baby shower loop for many years now and had never seen one. The only games I remember are the yarn-around-the-mom-and-baby one (everyone cuts a piece of yarn to the length they think will go around the mom's belly at the biggest spot, then she puts them all around to see who's guess is closest), and a word scramble thing. Hope you have a lot of fun with the planning!
Awww. Super cute stuff! I love the Pooh decorations and the diaper cake. The green and yellow garland stuff is so adorable!!! I'm trying to remember where we got paper lanterns for a bridal shower a few years ago, and I'm drawing a blank. I'll ask my mom and let you know what I find out.
As for games...I don't have any suggestions. I don't think it's a very popular tradition down here, as I've never gone to a baby (or bridal) shower with games - and I've been to a lot of showers! The only thing I can think of is the shower that my office threw for one of my co-workers (she's adopting a baby from Vietnam) --- since there were men co-workers present, we had a contest where they had to diaper a Cabbage Patch Kid doll, and we judged them as to who did the best diapering job. It was quite funny.
It's a really simple game, but it keeps the party guests attention while Cay is opening the gifts (as people sometimes find this to be the most "boring" part of a shower). Bring an ordinary kitchen timer (the kind you turn, not digital) with you to the shower.
Have someone (you or MIL) turn it to a random time without looking at it and set it next to Cay.
Whoever's gift she is opening when the timer goes off, wins a prize.
Like I said, it's simple, but I've done it twice at bridal showers and people seem to enjoy it.
HTH - BTW, those decorations are fabu! Also, love the idea of a diaper "cake". I've seen many towel cakes at bridal showers and they are adorable. . . .

Diapering games are always a hoot, especially if there are men present. 1) There's the straight diapering contest - see who can do it fastest and best; 2) See who can do it with a traditional cloth diaper - they have to actually fold the diaper and be certain that it fits snuggly in all the right places and doesn't fall off (not a particularly easy thing to do!); 3) Team diapering - two persons, one uses only right hand, the other only left, and they have to get the baby diapered (you can also add "and dressed") without talking to each other. This one works really great in co-ed parties! 4) If you are really into making fools of everyone, and reliving all the horrors of childhood parties, you can "Pin the Diaper on the Baby" - blow up a picture of a baby (substitue a parent's baby picture face if desired), mount on something that will accept push pins, then have folks pin Newborn-sized disposable diapers on it - after being blindfolded and spun around a few times, of course! 5) And don't forget blindfolded diapering - you can make it as easy or complicated as you want.
Sounds like it is going to be a really fun party!

We did the yarn thing at my shower with toilet paper instead. They had to guess how many pieces of toilet paper it would take to circle my belly. My aunts were not particularly kind. I was as big as a battleship.
In our family, we usually do showers after the baby's arrived, so I don't have a lot of pre-baby ideas, but one thing I really like....bring a journal-type book and as the gifts are being unwrapped, pass the book around. Each person writes a message for the baby or advice for the mom. It's a nice keepsake after the shower's over.
Do they still torture shower guest with games????? Luckily I'm at the age now where everyone I know is already married and had all their babies. Good luck with the shower.
At my baby shower (or DD's depending on how you looked at it) we each had a mini clothespin (I think Wilton makes them in pink or blue) on our nametags. Every time you caught someone saying the word "baby" you took their clothespin/clothespins. Then they set a timer and the person with the most pins when the timer went off got a prize.
I was at a shower where they hid baby items (pacis, pins, baby spoons, etc) around the room and we had to find them -- write down what we found, not move them. They included a couple of antique things that no one recognized, so it was fun.
Maybe go to one of hte kids party planning sites and look for some Winnie the Pooh themed games instead of traditional baby shower games.
Love the decorations. I used the same decorations for my DSIL's baby shower.
I was just at a shower on Sunday and we did a money pool as to the date and sex of the babies (the couple are expecting twins). It was $1.00 per guess. The winner gets the pot.
Besides the ones mentioned above we've done - guess the baby food. You take the labels off jars of baby food - or cover them and number the jars. Then people have to guess by the sight and smell what it is. One time we were given little disposable spoons in case we wanted to taste it. Baby food generaly tastes bad!
How do you feel about a bit of competition at the shower? When my girlfriend had her shower, we bought the cheap plastic pacifiers (not real ones) and tied a bit of curling ribbon through them to make a necklace...everyone got one when they walked in the door....from the moment they donned their necklace, "Baby" was the forbidden word (or whatever else you chose). If you busted soemone saying "baby", you got their necklace. If they were wearing more than one at the time, you got ALL of their necklaces. At the end of the shower, the one with the most pacifier necklaces won. You could do somethign similar with Mardi Gras Beads too, if you can't find the big pastic pacifiers.
