Ally's Great Make-A-Wish WDW Pre-trip Report - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Okay, I am going to listen to my more experienced Passporter friends and make ADRs!! Time for more research! I'll let you know how it goes... Is it true that if you time it right you can see Illuminations right from your seat at R&C? (I know, probably dreaming too big to get that ADR, but hey, a girl can hope!!)
We will be taking our DD5 to GKTW September 17-23, 2007 and are thrilled! Lots of research has been done, but we have found that the most accurate help and information is to be found from other Wish Trip families and their trip reports. Is anyone else going around that time?
Haven't been on our trip yet, tomorrow our MaW coordinators are taking us out to dinner....IN A LIMO!!!! We are supposed to get our itinerary and our spending money(!) then. DH and DS know that we are going to dinner with our MaW people, but none of the details
We've had some changes in our plans. Mostly b/c I am an obsessive overplanner in a spontaneous family. I will try to post tomorrow morning how things are looking *at this point* <cough>
Okay, I am not getting the picture posting thing, but I will have DS help me (in the most condescending teenager way) when he gets home from school.
Anyway, our dinner out with the Wish Grantors was amazing! They picked us up from our house at 6 pm in a LIMO. Ally, my Wish kid had no idea we were meeting with our MaW people or going to dinner or anything. So when the limo *backed* into our driveway (it's kinda funky and narrow) she jumped up on the couch to see, and had to process for a minute. Finally it all clicked and she spun around with hands on hips and gave me a "what have you been holding out on me" look "HEYYY!! They are the WISH PEOPLE!!" Then she was gone. I don't think she would have been upset if they left us behind, she was sooo excited.Oct07 MaW.jpg
The entire (well most of them) staff of the restaurant was waiting for her when she came in, and they presented her with roses, and escorted us to our table, which was all decorated with balloons and glitter. She got to order fillet mignon, which she loved, and the staff all came out again to present her with an ice cream cake that said "Ally's Dream Comes True" The chef made a little speech about how honored they were to have her come to eat there before her wish, it was wonderful.MaW oct07.jpgOctMaW 07.jpg
As a child who spent a lot of time in and out of a doctors office and hospitals. I hope you have fun. It was hard to hear about all the fun vacations that happened while I was home. I didn't get my first WDW trip until I was in high school and after my final surgery. It was a blast.
Have a great trip and don't forget your Mickey Ears!

Just wanted to say Thank You to those of you who posted such good advice about the ADRs... I didn't make any though, and this is why.
Our last family vacation to DL (in 2004) was amazing. DH is NOT a traveller, and so we took the train as a compromise, and it was a grand adventure. We got to relax, they had an awesome observation car, and Forest Rangers that came on board to tell us about the scenery, and all the time we were getting closer to *the happiest place on earth*. We had 5 day ParkHoppers, so no hurry and worry, just took our time. By the fourth day, DH, who is usually Mr HyperResponsible, was running gleefully through the parking lot with his precious *baby* girl precariously perched in her stroller giggling hysterically. I was the one saying "Slow DOWN, you're going TOO fast!!"
It is MY dream to have ADRs and eat at cool places. Ally's dream is to have a great time with all of us, but esp. her Daddy, who sometimes gets too busy at home with his responsibilities for her liking. I think he and all of us will have a better time if I don't schedule anything for this trip, and we'll just eat wherever we end up. That way there will be no pressure to get anywhere. Other than Ally's commando touring, that is. Besides, this way I can say *I will do that next time* and maybe DH will buy into another WDW trip before too long. Oooh, I AM a schemer!
So, for those one or two of you who are still reading here is what I do have planned:
Day 1- Epcot All Day (DD's pick)
Day 2- Animal Kingdom (DD's #2 pick)
Day 3- Discovery Cove, and possibly Sea World after (we'll see...)
Day 4- IoA and poss. US
Day 5- MGM and poss. MK (I know, I know)
I'm not putting MK last b/c we don't want to go there, but we DID just go to DL in Feb. (without DH) So we are trying to see the things that we can't see at DL, just in case we can't come back. Who said that? We WILL be back, we WILL be back..
So I'm sorry we didn't take everyone's advice, I just came to realise it's not what Ally wants, so I tried to scale back. I want this trip to be everything she dreamed of, and I think this will work.
