As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

From another Bostonian, we also say 'wicked' as in 'Oh, that's wicked cool!' or 'wicked pissa'. I still find myself saying wicked!

I lived in Clifton from the time I was 7 until I got married (small world!) Then we moved to Morris County. So I guess it is a Passaic County thing, because whenever I refer to Goosey Night here in Middlesex County I get the "blank look" and then "Oh, you mean Mischief Night."
BTW, I think we received 1 present at our wedding and the rest were envelopes. I remember handing them over to DMIL before we left the reception for safekeeping, and then coming home & opening them to get some money to buy a TV.

Laura, sorry, I didn't realize "hoodie" was a regional word too. [img]graemlins/blush.gif[/img] A hoodie is a hooded sweatshirt. That's what the kids call them now. When I grew up they were "bunnyhugs" or occasionally "kangaroos".

As for the way I talk, we don't have very many colorful variations. (That, or I'm immune to them.) We call it soda in general, as in "do you want milk, juice or soda?" One thing I got teased for in IA was calling the freeways "the 15" or "the 8," as in "take the 8 West to the 15 North."
In our Girl Scout troop, we have always called the leaders and parents "Miss" Priscilla and "Mr." Jim I had always wondered where that came from...now I know!
My DH is from Texas and Missouri, and I tease him about the "creek" in his neck when he goes down to the "crick." [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img] He also uses fixin' and y'all, but it seems to be fading. Except for when his family comes out to visit or he's on the phone with them, it reappears. Go figure.

OMG this is a great thread! ROTFL!
DH (a Pennslyvania native) says "worsh" as in "worsh the car" even though there is no "r" anywhere in wash. We drink "soda" but my stepson drinks "pop" (that's what they call it in Colorado! [img]graemlins/dizzy.gif[/img] ). Another one he uses is "that there" as in..."You gonna worsh that there car?"
I grew up in New York, but I have totally lost my NY accent over the years. However, when I get angry, my "R"'s sometimes disappear... [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img] "Hey, buddy! Wheah did ya get ya license? At the Seah's stawh?" lol

OK, here's a few off the top of my head. The night before Halloween is called Cabbage Night here. We drink soda. Eat breakfast, lunch and supper. Dinner is a big meal that can be at lunch or supper time. We say ayut or yup for yes and na for no. My MIL ends her sentences with "and that". We like turkey for dinner and that. Ya is you, "I've got a deal for ya." A Woodchuck is a dirt pig.
What does everyone call a big sandwhich? We call it a grinder. I know it can be a sub or hoagie in other places.
And, I had never had grits until we went to FL. No such thing here.

Okay, I've lived here (off and on) for most of my life.. so I have a few about this region AND a few from California and Texas..
Here-
Whenever you want to see if someone agrees with something you've said, you look at them and say "Ya know?" until they respond.
We order tea around here, and if we DON'T want it sweet we order it unsweetened.
Grunting is a perfectly acceptable form of communication.
And you call everyone "Miss".. I regularly call 4 year olds "Miss."
-In California-
Everyone and everything was "tweaked." And it could mean virtually anything.
"Okay" means the same thing as "WHATEVER"
-In Texas-
I heard "Cowboy Up" far too many times to count.
That's all I can think of right now.

I'm from Texas so yes, I do say Y'all alot! Also you might hear something like "fin na" = fixing to, like "I'm Fin na go to the store!" [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] Also it's "Hi, how ya doin?" = Hi, how are you? [img]images/icons/tongue.gif[/img] I'm sure there are plenty more, we Texans LOVE to butcher the English language!!

Just have to tell y'all a funny thing that just happened to me! I went to go get a coffee at Dunkin Donuts [img]graemlins/yuma.gif[/img] and behind me were two gentlemen and one said to the other.
"T'mrrow Im gunna get my car warshed and so it will be all shin-ey and look purty."
You dont know how hard it was for me not to start LOL! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] But I did have a BIG smile on my face, Im sure they must have been wondering what I was thinking! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

I just had a cheesesteak w/mushrooms & onions from Gino's on Friday, right before we went to the Vet to see the Phillies lose. Yum!
DebiDebiDebi, the night before Halloween (Goosey or Mischief Night)is a time when young hooligans go out and do things like egg your house and car; soap up car windows; toilet paper your trees; put poop in a bag, put in on your doorstep, set it on fire then ring your bell, run away & laugh as you step on it to put out the flames. (Fellow Jersey Girls, have I left anything out?) There are usually curfews for juveniles in our area for October 30th.
