Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Anybody seen a cement donkey?
I just spoke to my dad and he reminded me that it's been ten years since someone stole his cement donkey, Hank. (We were very attached to Hank. He was left behind by the previous owner of my dad's house.) One day my dad was mowing the grass and mowed over the spot where Hank was supposed to be. Suddenly, dad realizes his donkey has been stolen! It didn't bug him that much at the time. We always thought it was his ex-girlfriend's brothers who took him (To get back at my dad? Who knows.). My dad just wants to know what became of him. Please keep in mind, my dad and I share a very strange sense of humor...
So I had this idea for a "Find Hank Photo Hunt". I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me. I want to put together a travel journal of sorts for my dad, showing what Hank has been doing for the last ten years. I thought maybe some of my Passporter pals could help by taking pictures of cement donkeys in friends and neighbors yards and email the pictures to me and tell me what state it was in. It doesn't matter what the donkey looks like. Obviously, my dad will know it's not Hank, but it will provide some much needed closure. I plan to give my dad a map with Hank's stops marked with little x's and a photo album of pictures from Hank's "travels". The sillier the better. If you see a cement donkey in Houston,Texas and put a cowboy hat on him - that kind of silly thing. Anybody game?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
how about a zebra? There is one in the next town over.
Maybe Hank has been in the witness protection program?

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
Perhaps he was changed into a real donkey by the donkey pixies...you know, like in Pinocchio or the Velveteen Rabbit? Do you hear any strange braying noises in the woods at night?

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
Gee, I don't know, Teresa. Hank was pretty small - about 20 inches tall. How big is this zebra? Maybe Hank is undercover...Hmmm...

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
Reminds me of the time we stole my dad's "traveling companion", a stuffed rabbit named "HO" (Now, before you think badly of my dad, it's Ho, as in "Wagons...Ho!', I know, I don't get it either...). We took him on one of our famous 2 week car trips, and he visited places like Las Vegas, The Four Corners, Salt Lake City, Bryce Canyon, Arches National Park...we took pictures of HO everywhere we went, and kept an extensive diary of his adventures. Ho was returned to his resting place (dad never missed him), and then, about a month later, we sent the pictures and diary to Dad. He loved it!

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
That reminds me. Even if you can't find a donkey in your neighborhood, you can still help. If you find a landmark-type postcard (like Mt. Rushmore, Statue of Liberty, etc.) and can scan it and email it to me, I'll just superimpose Hank onto the picture with photoshop. Thanks again!

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
Do you have any Lawn ornament places up your way? My parents bought me a Donkey with cart & a Mexican boy for Christmas 2 years ago. So far, they are still in the front lawn. I even found a straw hat to place on the donkey's head (needs replacing now)

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
The only place around here that sells lawn ornaments is Wal-mart and they don't carry cement donkeys. Besides, my dad doesn't really want a new donkey. I just want to cheer him up about the one that was stolen. It's not imperative or anything. I'd like to get a laugh out of him at Christmas when I give him Hank's Travel Journal is all.
My dad would have a cow if I showed up at his house with a new cement donkey! He's not particularly fond of lawn ornaments, but Hank was the perfect low-maintenance pet for the longest time.

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
I'm in! I love this kind of stuff. Now I just need to find a donkey, but my favorite nursery has lots of statuary. Oh DH has an idea. I'll get back to you.

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
Beaner,
There is a place on Route 1 in Saugus, MA that sells all kinds of cement lawn ornaments!! It's kind of far from me (I used to live near there, that's how I know) but if I get up there in the next few weeks (and there is a good chance I will), I'll go and see if they have donkey's and I'll take a picture of them and you can put something like 'Hank!?!? Are you in there!?!?'.
Also, if any of our Revere, MA-area Passporters are around there, feel free to stop by and take the pictures!
Also, I have a post card collection, from all over the world!! I'm getting a scanner in a couple of weeks and if you want, I'll pick some of the more exotic locales and scan them in for you!
Let me know!

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
No cement donkeys in my home yet, mostly plush, plastic (bubble blower), riding a tricycle, or on tees and pins!
Should I stumble upon one in my travels I'll send you the jpeg!

Re: Anybody seen a cement donkey?
Hey Beaner, I'm sorry. I believe that must have been Hank's BIG brother, read life-size in Avon. I could get a pic, and then one of oh, say the Indy 500 and you could "fuse" them. Just say the word.
