Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Teacher Appreciation Week

This is National Teacher Appreciation Week.

We are so appreciated in our district. Today they released the programs that will be cut for the 2003-2004 school year. They are cutting all instrumental music.

Hey Steve, do you want to open a branch of your new business in Denver? I know a few music teachers who will be out jobs.

That's horrible!!! I'm sooooo sorry! We all know music education builds so much in the lives of children, but, because it doesn't add to the bottom line the way, say, um. . .football does, it gets axed. It's completely ridiculous!

I really needed that!

(Okay, one of the perks of being the computer/math teacher is I get to "post" a bit while overseeing the computer classes!)

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

I'm adding my thanks here, too! All of you teachers are very much appreciated!

I don't know how I would have gotten through highschool without dropping out if it weren't for my art teacher, Mrs. Raniszewski, and my choir teacher, Mr. Millisits. Teachers are amazing people who often go unappreciated by the taxpayers who are paying their salaries. You teachers, however, should know that it's the kids who know and appreciate what you do! Don't get discouraged. Somewhere, in one of your daily classes, there's a student who not only thinks very highly of you and what you do, but also considers you a friend!

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Please allow me to add my heartfelt appreciation for teachers everywhere. One of my dear friends, a teacher, is also my son's godmother and I empathize with those who have chosen this difficult profession.

This week my son's school implemented a week of appreciation activities, including bringing fruit, school supplies, candy, etc. for the teachers each day of the week.

This morning my son went to school with a backpack full of bon bons so he could give them out to each teacher/assistant/librarian/principal he came in contact with as a small token of thanks.

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Thanks to all the kind words for us teacher. The media and other venues report so much of the negative and blame public education for all the wrongs, but never dig down to see how many wonderful and talented teachers there are. So it's gratifying once in a while to hear the thank yous! Thank you! I know I get discouraged, just as many other teachers do, but I know I've chosen the right profession and can't imagine doing anything else.

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Another cheer for the nation's teachers (especially those on this board!) I am the co-chair for my DD's Elementary School "Teacher Appreciation Week." On Monday we had a "Make Your Own Fruit Salad" Bar w/croissants for breakfast. Tuesday was "Free Popcorn" (we have a monthly popcorn sale for the kids) and Present Day (each staff member received a key ring w/flashlight from the PTA) Yesterday was the big Luncheon with about 15 entrees, 10 salads & 10 side dishes plus a sheet cake. Today was "Plant Day" where each of the teacher's got a complimentary plant via the "Mother's Day Plant Sale." Tomorrow is dessert day; we have about 20 desserts coming in (my mom made an authentic English Trifle.) Plus the Principal gave all the staff coffee mugs on Tuesday; and the Supt. of schools sent in bagel platters for the staff today. It's been a busy week! A lot of parents (about 50) will have sent things in by the end of the week, and the teacher's have all been so gracious and complimentary.

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

Fortissimo, So sorry to hear that you may be out of a job. Why must fine arts be the ones to always take the hit? I talking band chorus, art and drama. Sports do not do as much for students as fine arts.

Our district on top of pushing a new High School down our necks that we don't need and can't afford, wants to add a state of the art fitness center.

If it wasn't for our high school band director I don't think DS 1 would have graduated high school much less college.

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

As an early childhood educator (I teach Kindergarten in a private school), I am always upset when I hear about cuts in schools. All of these activites that get "cut" are important in making "well rounded children" that are our future. For those of you who are threatened by cuts, I hope that your budgets get reviewed and that your jobs will continue.

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

I'm so bummed! I just found out that our 6th grade teacher -- my closest pal at work -- is probably going to take a position at another school, primarily b/c of our principal.

I can't imagine being at this school without her! She's been a wonderful mentor and friend!

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

A few hours after we received the budget reduction list, we received our new contract for next year. We're getting a 1.5% raise. Disney here I come!

pflamingo, my best friend left our school last year because of the outstanding leadership we have.

I do consider myself lucky. I only have about 15 credit hours left for a second master's in English as a Second Language. So if they do cut music, I can teach the non-English speaking students.

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

So sorry to hear that!! I know how awful it is to be out of a job. I hope something else comes through for you!

I know of a school here in GA that is going to need several new teachers for next year if the principal doesn't start "appreciating" us a bit more.

She's chewed out several of us -- in front of our students -- very unprofessional. I got it on Tuesday, over nothing. And this, after I've been giving up my planning periods to cover other classes so she doesn't have to hire a sub.

Then, she put us through a 3-hour faculty meeting (after school), where she asked us what we needed to improve our teaching, curriculum, etc. When we gave her honest and reasonable (e.g., won't cost much) answers, she proceeded to tell us we DIDN'T need these things -- we just need to be more organized. This, from the least organized person on staff!

Okay, I'm thankful to have a job, but flipping burgers is beginning to look good by comparison, even if I have to sell my house and live in my car.

Thanks for letting me vent. And please, let your kids' teachers know you appreciate them. I've worked a lot of jobs, but I've never worked at anything that was this tough. Of course, watching the kids "get it" in math does make up for some of it.
