Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Angry Car insurance vent...(and 18yo needs pixies again!)

The Divine Miss M was in a fender bender a few weeks ago. Drove into the back of someone who was turning right and decided to stop suddenly. Ouch. She got a hundred-something dollar ticket (and the other 2 people did too for no insurance). I get a phone call, needing to talk to me about my vehicle that was involved in an accident. I *used* to own her car, but signed it over to her when she moved. She is now on my Dad's policy, since she lived with them.

I called and explained the whole situation (AFTER my Dad had called and explained), so we thought it was all worked out. I get an email tonight telling me that I have a new policy to review on the website and they have taken MY car OFF MY policy! WTHeck?!? I called and, sure enough, they are reporting MY 2003 Kia Sedona a total loss and removed it from the policy in early April. Ummmmm...there's NOTHING WRONG with my car! Are you sure?, they ask. OMGOSH what is that matter with these people? The lady then tells me that DDs car is a total loss. No one has looked at her car AT ALL, how on earth can they call it a loss? I put my Dad on to make sure that all is well with his policy, but he finally hung up on the person b/c he said that she was not making any sense at all. He's going to call back tomorrow to sort it out with a higher up.

Please send pixies to DD (this was her first traffic incident and she's very upset), and to my Dad who tends to get "wound around the axle" over these things and he just doesn't need anymore frustration in the middle of grading graduate level term papers! (oh, and some that MY van actually made it back on my policy, so I'm not uninsured on this little road trip I'm on!!!)

Insurance companies, whether they be car insurance or health insurance, are such a pain! Too bad they are such a necessary evil! Good luck getting everything straightened out!

I hope you get it worked out.

Isn't your DD old enough to have her own policy and not be on your dad's? Maybe this is a learning tool for her. She is old enough to learn to deal with insurance companies and how they work. I don't think the insurance company actually has to look at the car to say it is a total loss. I know with my car the body shop called the insurance company and told them it was a total loss. Although your insurance company sounds like a bunch of bumbling idiots....just from what you have said.

It's gotta be asked - if you signed over the car, did you actually go to the liscence bureau and change the registration? We've always done that, even when we sell cars to people we don't know. I'm not running the risk of signing over the car, handing the title to someone, and it's cheaper and easier for them to never switch it, so my name's still on it!

Pixies that you all get it fixed.

Update:
yes, when I signed it over, she had the registration changed, too. We have USAA insurance (which is usually very good!) and since my USAA account began while I was still my Dad's dependent, we're linked forever in the system. DD is still a student, so is on their insurance (that's how USAA works, she'll morph to her own policy when she's independent), but when she called the accident in, it pulled up my account, too and the agent just looked at "Kia" (we both have one). How on earth they decided it was totalled is still a mystery we're trying to figure out b/c DD hasn't taken her car to have it looked at yet (it's not that bad). Dad and I both spent time on the phone yesterday with USAA and all the cars are now properly insured and they are trying to get to the bottom of things.

Very sorry to hear about your insurnace woes, but glad to hear you got this worked out.

Just as a side note, I work for an insurance company in claims. Its true, a car doesn't have to be looked at to be deemed a possible total loss. Based upon questions asked during the initial first notice of loss, it can be determined/decided its a total loss.

Things like the value of the car, what was impacted, and how much it will cost to fix are all taken into account when deciding a total loss.

P.S. I do not work for USAA, but I work closely with them often and I agree, GOOD insurance company. In fact, here in San Antonio...I work across the street from their HUGE "compound/military base type facility" and often think of working there one day.
