As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
Inspired by Patsy-C's post...there are alot of STRANGE people out there.
We have relatively friendly neighbors next door (moved in about 2 years ago). We don't really socialize with them, but we do know them and are invited to their parties (and they seem to have 3-4 a year, which in my book is a lot!).
Anyway, last night when I came home from choir practice (around 9:15 PM) as I parked my car, I could hear what I thought was a loud radio. First thought is that it's the neighbor across the street's teenage daughter out in a car. But there are no other cars with people in them (we live on a very small block).
I can hear it when I get out of the car, and inside my house! (Remember, it's cold and all our windows are shut and storm windows are down). In our bedroom (which faces the neighbor's that I spoke of) I can hear the radio or tv very clearly. I can also hear it in the bedroom. It becomes obvious that it is the neighbor's tv.
Now, I am annoyed because I get up early on Thursday mornings and I just wanted to take a shower and go to bed. So I call them. The machine picks up. I try again. Still no answer, just the machine. And I notice that their cars are not in the driveway. They're not home but their TV is BLARING?? Makes no sense.
So I call the neighbor on the other side of their house. He can hear the tv too, but didn't know what it is. The three of us (me, hubby & other neighbor) go out to investigate. Obviously there is no one home, but the TV is on full blast. ALl the doors are locked and there is no sign of anyone trying to enter the house I am debating what to do because even though the cars aren't there, I don't know if the are all right and the noise is really bothering (the windows are shaking that's how loud it is).
I decide to leave a note saying that we are concerned due to the noise and that if they are not home by 11 PM we are calling the police and to call us to tell us that they are all right.
Well, around 10:30 the noise stops and I see that their cars are in. So I wait for a call. And I wait. And I wait.
Finally at 11, the wife calls me, thanking me for my concern and saying that they had left the TV on and that the receiver is broken and it automatically gets louder by itself?!?!? I didn't believe it for a second, but I wasn't going to get into it.
Is this the longest, strangest story you've heard? Or do you have another wackier and/or more annoying neighbor story to tell?

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
I know that my ex had a stereo system that did that. It compensated for the noise that was in the room and got louder as the noises got louder in his room. Very annoying!
My neighbor here is a very sweet man, but strange. He loves to collect junk, and when I say collect I mean COLLECT! His garage is sooo full of stuff that there is just enough room to fit his truck into it. But it just doesnt stop there, his whole yard has junk on it too! As posted in another one, he has a birdcage outside with a chicken in it, gave us a housewarming gift of chimes made out of spoons and forks, and on our cold snap that just went thru was seen walking on his treadmill that is outside! He is very sweet, and will wave to us if we drive by his house and vice versa, and wouldnt ask for a better neighbor if asked. My other neighbors dont say boo, come outside, and have only mowed their yard once this year. Like they say, there are two things that you cant pick, family and neighbors.

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
I think that your neighbors have relatives here! One neighbor has his 60" TV blaring ALL the time-even when they are not home; the grandson of the woman on the other side sits in his friend's cars with the stereo turned up full blast, making it seem as though they are in my living room. And then, there is the older man cattycorner across the street--- he is an MD with a very bizarre penchant for collecting junk!He drives around and picks up anything and everything that was thrown out, broken baby gates, rusted bike handlebars, crushed lamps, you name it. He fills up his car or truck until there is no possible way to squeeze in another item(not to mantion the fact that he can't see out of the vehicle!), and then parks it in his backyard and buys another car and begins the whole process again!Thankfully, we can't see the yard from here--he also buys old buildings and warehouses to store more of his "treasures". I want to move to Minnie's house and live with "normal" characters!!!

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
PhilaDisney,
I lived in an apartment like that too. We had a guy and his girlfriend upstairs who were constantly fighting. One time, she was throwing stuff out the window at him as he was trying to get into his car. Your right, it sometimes made for more amusement than TV. And I had a guy downstairs who snored so loud. I was amazed he didn't wake himself up. I was glad to get out of that building.

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
Well where can I start about my wacky neighbors. I have a few!!! But I'll just tell you about one.
1.Okay the one who lives right next to me got mad because when the parking authority put up the handicapped poles, the majority of the space used was in front of her house. (we rent our homes from the same landlord). We eventually moved them so that they would only be in front of our house. The reason we got the poles was because my mother is disabled and her son who does not live at her house parked his truck (that he is working on and has been for the last 3 years) in front of our house for over a month without moving it.
2.Last week she was putting up plastic to her windows at 9 o'clock at night. Then when my mother called over there, because she did not know if she was okay or not, she said "oh am I disturbing you?"
I could share more, but I think you get the point.

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
I can actually say, our neighborhood is quite boring... We have lived on our street for 26.5 years now and don't have a thing odd to say about our neighbors. No we don't live in Mr. Rogers Neighborhood but have been extremely lucky to have nice, normal neighbors.
Now on the other hand, they may think we are the wacky ones. It is nothing to hear a car start up at 4 or 4:30am as DH is going over to run the beach before work hours... or he is up early to go out hunting. We have Pheasants and Quail that like to sound off at times but they get drowned out by the neighborhood roosters
It's nice not living in a crowded neighborhood

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
Debe, its funny you mention roosters in your not so crowed nieghborhood. I live in East Harlem, NYC. The wacky neighbors are the ten roosters and about 20 hens that crow at any time of the day.( That daylight crowing thing is a fairy tale.) We use to have a pair of peacocks but I call police to rescue them. I didn't think they could survive a NY winter.
The flock is quite fiesty. The cats don't even try to mess with them.

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
Well, we've lived at our current address for 27.9 years! The only house that has seen a number of changes is the one next door. I could tell some stories about that, but that would be gossiping!
So, I have this true story (that was in the news) about a neighbor just down the road apiece - 2 houses down & within shouting distance. The gentleman that lives there now was in his late teens, earlier twenties when we moved here. He lived with his mom and 2 brothers. The original house burned down, his mom died a few years later, his older brother was killed in a motorcycle accident in California and he and his other brother have been arrested numerous times on marijuana and alcohol related charges.
A couple of years ago, the one brother still living here, had his home broken into and a number of big ticket items and cash were stolen. They caught the criminals a couple of weeks after the robbery in Virginia, but the local police immediately arrived on his door to arrest him too. It seems the crooks not only stole the above mentioned items, but also his pot plants!

LauraBelle,
Your story sounds like one that could have aired on the FOX show "COPS"! That was a good one!

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
When I lived in my last apartment the walls were paper thin (as I'm sure they are in most apartment buildings). Anyway, my husband and I amused ourselves almost nightly by listening to the guy who lived below us fighting with his girlfriend. We didn't mean to be nosy, but you couldn't help but hear everything very clearly and it was better than what was on tv.
The night before our wedding my sister had stayed at the apartment with me. At 6:00 in the morning I heard the guy downstairs and started giggling. My sister asked me what that noise was and I replied laughing "That's the guy downstairs snoring!"

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
My neighbors had my dog arrested for digging a hole in their yard on Christmas day! We do not speak to them anymore! Why couldn't they just have said hey your dog dug a hole in my yard, fix it. We would have been happy to!

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
We have the Mullet Dude across the street.
I don't think he works; I don't know what he does, except try to hang out with my 17-year-old son, who really does NOT need a wonderful influence like this in his life!
The man is trapped in the early nineties. It is very scary.

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
We live on a private road off Rte 6. We're very lucky to have good neighbors. The only thing out of the ordinary is one neighbor has "Bush Chickens" which hang out in the road sometimes and you have to herd them back into the bushes to pass. Unfortunatly the coyotes have been pretty vicious this year and I don't think there are many chickens left.

Re: Wacky and/or Annoying Neighbor Stories
First let me start off with the disclaimer that we live in a small town (4,000 people) and when we first moved here 15 yrs ago there were almost as many cows as there were people and that the people who are a part of this community are for the most part wonderful. Not only that but our school system has the distinction of being the best system it's size in the state.
Okay then, we had a neighbor (though not next door, thank the good Lord) who had one son die drowning after fighting with his brother & "falling out" of a boat while fishing in the lake in front of our house. I thought that this was very sad until DH told me that before this incident another of his brothers was shot in their yard, possibly by his father but the police couldn't prove it. Another brother was found dead in the family freezer, don't ask me, I have no clue and don't want to know. Then about 10 yrs ago the families house (only father no mother) burned to the ground but none of the firefighters would go near it because dear old dad had live ammo sitting on top of the t.v. and it was shooting off during the fire. Can't say that I blame the firemen!!!!!!
After the fire, to spite the town (and after paying some serious bucks to a lawyer) the father had a shell of a house built & had siding put on it but there were never any walls put up inside of the house and nobody ever lived in it. So anyways, in February of this year, another son & his girlfriend were "living" there. She had just given birth to a baby boy but left the hospital the day after giving birth and brought the baby "home". They heated the house with little propane tanks but then moved into the woods up in the what Conn. calls a mountain when they found out that the police were after the guy. Anyways the police caught them and arrested him for abusing another infant son in Maine (he was later found guilty off hitting his infant sons head against a door jamb). Makes me just sick to think about that poor baby!!! I wish somebody could explain to me how someone, especially a parent could hurt a child.
Thankfully, the state took the newborn away from them and put the child into foster care. We still have no clue about where the man is who owns this place is but that "house" still is standing and it gives me the creeps just to go by it!!!
Just think, I didn't even start the story with how the old man had a reputation about starting fires. That one I only know about by rumor so can't say is true.
