Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Not really off topic, but...
we need some pixie dust here in Oregon!!
Good news... we leave in 9 days, 14 hours... we have great rates at the resorts... p.s. are in place (including Cindy's)... we have annual passes already in hand...DH has found trades so he has all of his shifts at the fire department covered...DH convinced City that they would have to reschedule his computer training (this was the same reason on our family reunion in January he had to come home from WDW halfway through!)...
Bad News...we are only miles from the Quartz Fire which was named the #2 wildfire threat in the nation. That on it's own is not bad, but DH has been on the fire since Monday. (He put himself through college by falling timber in the summers), and now he is a falling boss on the fire. They are hoping to contain the fire by Monday or Tuesday, but they will still need to mop up. I'm hoping... and this is where the pixie dust comes in... that he will actually be able to leave on the 25th!!

Re: Not really off topic, but...
Thanks guys. Unfortunately, the fire is getting away from them. Apparently there is a new fire in Northern Oregon, and they pulled all of the air bombers up there and off this fire. DH said this one just took off on them again yesterday.
Michelle
P.S. DH may be on CNN - they were there filming him while he was working.

Re: Not really off topic, but...
Pixie dust on its way!
I did see some pictures of a firefighter running down a hill toward the fire (he was running so he wouldn't fall as it was steep).
Could that have been him?
I'll also do a rain dance for your area. Maybe that would help!

Re: Not really off topic, but...
Michelle,
Kudos to your DH for all of the hardwork he does. How brave that he faces that kind of danger.
Here is pixie dust to not only help put out all of those nasty fires, but also to help deal with all of those people affected by them.

Re: Not really off topic, but...
Michelle, I am glad you have everything ready and set to go (great feeling isn't it). Hopefully things will settle down and your DH will be able to clear himself from that fire zone.
I also hope there has been no inuries due to this fire & that it will soon be over.
Will keep you in though & prayers... your vacation will be a great welcome to your DH.

Re: Not really off topic, but...
Thought I'd give everyone the update. It is now 5 days, 23 hours, and 55 minutes to go, and I have NO IDEA if we are going!! I don't really like this feeling. I don't know whether to be excited about going, or start planning a late October trip. I called Disney, and talked with a CM who was great. If we have to delay our trip, I would like to go the last week of October. She said our code would not still be good then, but she went and got a code so that we still received a great discount on our rooms.
DH said that they have it pretty well controlled now, and they are talking about releasing some of the resources from here. But, they want to keep the fallers. He thinks by tonight he should know if they are going to let him go, but he doesn't sound all that positive about it.
Beast_fanatic - I don't think that was him. I never did see it, but others did and he was falling a tree.
All Ears- Luckily they only lost two homes. I know that doesn't sound lucky, but there were many more threatened, and unfortunately, these homes are in a very remote area. There is only one, small dirt road that accesses the homes. They couldn't get the big fire trucks up there with the way the fire was burning. They would have risked not only the fire trucks (some of which are worth $800,000), but also the lives of the firefighters. There was a big fear that the fire would cut them off from their escape route.
Debe- Injuries have been another area we've been very lucky with. The first day or two of the fire, before all the resources were here, two firefighters suffered from heat stroke, but are okay now. (It was 104 or so that day, not to mention the heat from the fire!) And as for having everything done, I do once we get there. I have NOTHING done as far as packing!! I have my Disney Box, but need lots more to be ready!
Sorry this turned out so long!!

Re: Not really off topic, but...
Here's to your husband. That is very hot and tiring work. I fought fires for 9 years and nothing compares to fighting bush and forest fires in the heat of summer. VERY exhausting & dangerous work. I hope all works out for you.

Re: Not really off topic, but...
Thanks Don! I know DH would agree with you. The last night he was home, he said he feels like he is logging again. He is physically exhausted, and working on not much sleep.
I'll be glad to just know one way or the other, if we are going now or in two months.

Re: Not really off topic, but...
Good luck, Michelle! Remind my brother-in-law that he is 35 now and not 25! For everyone else, I would imagine Randy spent his birthday (8/8) fighting the fire. Am I right? Anyway, I hope you guys make it. Even though I am jealous!

Thanks for the update Michelle. Sending more pixie dust for your husband and all his fellow fire fighters.
And here's hoping that you can go on your trip. Let us know.
