As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

1 Week countdown.....how do you....
make the week pass faster?!? It would help if everyother word out of the kids mouth wasn't "How much longer?" or " I CAN'T wait till Saturday!" I just know this week is gonna drag by!

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
Well, I'm actually of the school of thought that the anticipation is almost as good as (and can sometimes be even better) than the real thing!
Just keep doing what you're doing--post on the boards, read your PassPorter, watch a Disney movie every night before you go to bed, dream about your vacation, etc...
Whatever you do, hang onto your "buzz", cuz it's definitely one of the best feelings in the universe!!!

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
I have to 'second' everything Nate said!
Listen to Disney CDs when you can too!
Are the kids out of school yet? Are you a stay-at-home mom? How about a little treat for them each day they DON'T ask you about vacation? Like maybe a dollar? Or what about Mickey pancakes for breakfast the day before you leave?
Just some thoughts.... but keep that Disney frame of mind about you!

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
I love the mickey pancake idea on the day before you go.
Instead of a dollar if the little ones don't mention vacation, how about a disney dollar.
You could also find some disney themed candy or little play books for the plane
Enjoy this feeling you only get it once in a while !

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
You could put your mind to work by making the kids a Disney travel bag of goodies. Anything that is easy to use during travel is a go! Put some crayons, maybe a Disney Coloring or sticker book, favorite treats, silly putty (if they still make it). Water guns are not a good idea on a plane !
I like the breakfast idea and how about doing a Mickey Pizza for dinner one night? Since the kids are out of school (well most are anyway) maybe you can make some Mickey Cookies out of their favorite cookie mix. ºoº
Pull out some of those Disney Movies Go over your packing list, make sure you have phone cards, all monies taken care of and if you have a PassPorter or other guide book sit back, relax and read through your book(s) again!
IT IS HARD.... when you are only a week away, can't sleep & when you do... you see visions of WDW!
HANG IN THERE!

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
We painted the outside of our house the week before we went.
I don't recommend that to anyone.
Instead, I'd do what the others have said.
How bout if you have the kids color tip envelops for mousekeeping? (Coloring will take longer than printing them)
Have them decide what snacks they want for the trip down. Then you can go purchase these (getting out of the house helps time go faster).
Go to the neighborhood pool and pretend you're at the resort pool.
Don't forget to buy more film - you can never have enough film!

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
OK, I don't know about killing time before, I am always so busy before the time seems to fly. Here is crazy for you though, we went to WDW this past DEC.; one month before my daughter's wedding! Did I do Christmas cards? Heck no! I was lucky to get the tree up before Christmas day...I loved the vacation, but felt that wedding planning tension coming on as soon as I boarded the plane for home! UGH!!!!

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
Here's the way I usually pass my time before "officially leaving!..."
* Go to the bank to get traveler's checks
* Prepare tip envelopes (Make the envelopes on print program with computer, put $ into individual envelopes, and place envelopes into Passporter)
* Create luggage logs & tags from this website
* Make sure you have all of your travel essentials
* Re-confirm with anyone who may be house-sitting, pet-sitting, checking mail for you, etc.
* Print up emergency contact phone numbers including your hotel name & phone #, your flight numbers (if applicable), vet's # (if someone is pet-sitting for you), etc. to give to those staying behind
* Make a "mix tape" for the plane with your favorite music on it! Be sure to include some songs from your fave Disney cds!
* Relax... your vacation is almost here. How completely lucky are you?!? Some of us have about a gazillion years (or so it seems!) to wait yet -- right, guys?!

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
OMG!!! All these wonderful ideas! I am sooo excited! I have been stocking up on film, just went to the bank for travelers cks, bought more socks today...but I'm still not leaving till SATURDAY!! I have to admit I'm 33yrs young and have never been to WDW so I'm definately as excited if not more so than my 10 and 9 year old boys. My husband is playing it cool for now, he's never been either...never flown for that matter!! So I know deep down he's got to be excited too!!
Thanks again, just coming to the boards makes it more bearable(sp?)

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
Let's see if I can explain this idea... I saw it on tv at Christmas, but thought it would be easy to adapt to a WDW countdown.
They took cookie cutters, and cut out two sided paper stars, Christmas trees, etc. In each of these cutouts, they wrote a "to do" item for that day. Some were practical, like buy wrapping paper, or put up lights, others were fun things, like sing your favorite Christmas songs. Then they attached the paper cutouts on a string, and each day they opened the next one until they got to Christmas.
Now, my Disney mind tells me this might be fun. You could use Disney cookie cutters, or just print out clipart and put it on a generic shape. You could fill your last week or two with things to do. Practical things like making your luggage tags, faxing your Passporter room request, packing (for those of us who wait 'til the last minute), etc. The fun things could be easy... watching your favorite Disney movie, sing your favorite Disney song, pick out scrap book paper for your pictures, etc.
I didn't do it for our trip right after Christmas... had enough to do with Christmas a few days before. But for our August trip, I might have to try it.

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
We only have two days left now (I'm not counting today, today is here already so I am just counting Thurs. and Fri.) I can hardly stand it! I am here at work and I can think of nothing but Disney!! I am far worse than my son who has a Disney chain up in his room so he can clearly see how much time is left. He has been removing the rings daily for months and I remember when it draped over several things and hung down. Now it is just a little nubbin on the hook on his calendar.
Sat. morning 4:30am can't come fast enough for me.....uh, er, on second thought, that 4:30am thing may be a little soon!

Re: 1 Week countdown.....how do you....
We got married two days before our WDW honeymoon last September. So I was doing wedding stuff for the few weeks before the trip. It flew by. In fact the excitement about the trip didn't really hit me until the night before our flight when we were sitting in the hotel room at the airport. I couldn't sleep at all and I was up before the alarm went off. Of course I'm the same way at Christmas too. Just a big kid I guess.
