As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

All the magic\'s gone from my holiday plans. Can you please make me feel better?
Until yesterday I was so excited about my holiday plans and I was just about to post my pre-trip report. Then all this terrorist stuff happened.
Firstly I am not a happy flyer at the best of times. I endure it as I love travel so much. Right now (and yes I know that security is up and theoretically it's the safest time to fly) I'm petrified.
Secondly, I absolutely understand the restrictions that are in place are for everyone's safety. I'd fly naked if that's what it takes to be safe. But at present all we're allowed to take on the aircraft are (essentially):
passports;
tickets;
money;
small purse / wallet;
baby milk
female hygiene products
All in a clear plastic wallet (good thing I don't embarrass easily)
To save money on this trip I decided to book a charter flight into Sanford. I don't think there are even seatback TVs on board. So I'm facing an eleven hour flight, with a fractious two year old (no books or entertainment) and a moaning teen (no Game Boy of Ipod) with a lousy seat pitch and a strong possibility of a delay.
Now I know the above sounds selfish and whiney and, as I said at the outset, I have no problems with the security measures. I'm just not excited anymore.
Please send some pixies to cheer me up.

Re: All the magic\'s gone from my holiday plans. Can you please make me feel better?
I'm so sorry!!!!! Hopefully things will calm down in the next few days!! We leave in 18 days, and yesterday I really wanted to see if I could cancel my flight and drive (not because I mind the restrictions, but I don't like to fly to begin with, and now I'm a little scared)-- I only have a 2.5 hour flight though, and don't have the same restrictions, so I can only imagine how you're feeling about the flight. Everything will be fine though. It's probably safer now than it was a few weeks ago. You still have almost 2 weeks. Hopefully by then they'll let up a little with maybe allowing books and magazines... I don't see how those can be dangerous. You'll be fine! AND, just keep thinking about your destination!! (all this coming from the biggest chicken ever with flying!!)

It kinda blows my mind that they are restricting reading material. I am sorry for all your restrictions but just look at where you'll be when you get OFF that plane! Hang in there and have a great trip!

Re: All the magic\'s gone from my holiday plans. Can you please make me feel better?
I know how you feel... we flew to Disney 10 days after 9/11 for our Honeymoon and it was really hard to get on a plane. Once we got there it was really worth it though. I hope things ease up a little with security so you can keep the kids occupied!!!

Re: All the magic\'s gone from my holiday plans. Can you please make me feel better?
I know how you feel about not being excited. At least you have time for things to calm down before you leave and for the excitement to come back. I'm leaving in the morning to Drive to VA for the Auto Train and my DH calls me this morning and tells me there is something wrong with the van. Right now, I am not only not excited about going, I have my doubts as to whether I will even get to the train that will get me to Disney.

Oh, I don't know what to tell you! I hope the restrictions let up a bit before your trip.
I hope things work out for you. Maybe the airlines will make magazines or books available for passengers. Or they might bring in portable entertainment systems to keep little eyes occupied.
I can't even imagine what it is like for the poor flight attendants having to fly with a planeload of bored passengers (especially bored children )

Re: All the magic\'s gone from my holiday plans. Can you please make me feel better?
I hope that by the time your holiday comes that things will ease up in the security department! If nothing else, hopefully they will allow reading material! I certainly understand your fears - but keep your mind on the destination and the fun that awaits you and your family!
I too am a little on edge - our flight back home is on 9/11 - I know that when I booked it, I did do a little thinking on it - but told myself that we would be fine. Now - I am wondering about that particular date with all that has happened since yesterday!

Lots of to at least allow a reading book or two... If not - have you considered Benadryl for the whole family? At least you'll sleep through most of the flight and wake up in your happy place!

Think beyond the flight to what you'll be doing once you are in Orlando. Hopefully they'll ease the restrictions on books between now and then.

Karen
I got onto the BAA website today and it stated that anything you get AFTER the security checks are okay to take onboard i.e books, colourng pencils etc. I doubt that would apply to any electricals though so still no point in buying Ipods etc in duty free.

 I've been hoping that in a few weeks' time they'll allow iPods and such in the cabins again, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it. Hopefully you can find something that will be allowed on board so nobody goes batty from the long flight!

Re: All the magic\'s gone from my holiday plans. Can you please make me feel better?
I hope it all works out for you Karen! They were interviewing passengers that had taken a British Airways flight into San Francisco yesterday and they had been allowed a magazine, but books had been confiscated. But, at least it was something to read! Best of luck!
