Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

BTS Shopping

BTS (back to school) shopping has been quite an event - and we haven't even thought of clothing yet - between the 2 kids, they needed 13 3-ring binders, all different sizes, and you wouldn't believe some of the weird stuff. We've found all but the "magnetic envelopes" - maybe because NO-ONE knows what that is!!
13 yr. old also needed a zip-drive!!

are you done? Is there anything weird on your list? Does anyone know what a "magnetic envelope"?

Re: BTS Shopping

We are not done yet either. Kyle will be starting kindergarten and on his list it says they need 15 large glue sticks. 15, come on. I do know that there are other kids in his class that need 15 also so it's not just my kid bringing all the glue sticks. I hope this is a typo.

Sarah is starting preschool and they have asked for weird stuff. Her list is asking for watercolor paper, liquid watercolors (I'm assuming this is normal watercolor paint), watercolor pencils and oil crayons.

Good luck at finding your magnetic envelope.

Re: BTS Shopping

I've never heard of a magnetic envelope! DD attends a really small private school (14 kids total) so pretty much everything is included. I usually get her a new backpack but that's about it. Clothes are really the biggest purchase.

Re: BTS Shopping

Nothing too weird on my kids list. The only thing is that they will ask for a big bottle of glue, but I will buy 2 small ones because I can get the 2 for .40 instead of 1.48 for the big one. Why should I spend almost $2.00 for a 100 page notebook, when I can get a 70 page one for .08 and they never use all the pages.

Re: BTS Shopping

I wish I could start school supply shopping, but we don't even have our lists yet! I have a kindergartener and a third grader. I remember the kindergarten list 3 years ago included lots of supplies, but I don't remember the specifics! And, all the sales have already happened, and everything is picked over, so shopping will not be fun. We are supposed to get supply lists with our teacher assignement letters next week. Way too late, in my opinion. At least from a shopping perspective.

Re: BTS Shopping

We took advantage of the tax free shopping days last week and got all our supplies for $84. We were fortunate enough to be able to recycle Lizzie's calculator from last year so that was a big savings, and this year Chet's teacher only wanted them to have the one big zip-up type binder instead of the smaller folders from last year. I guess the biggest thing were the new backpacks, but I insisted that they be under $20. Chet really could have used his same one from last year, but I remember how fun it was when I was a kid picking out a new lunch box every year. Both kids agreed to brown bag lunches this year so no new lunch boxes for them. Clothes wise we only bought new sneakers as they can still wear their summer things for the next couple of months. Chet wanted a pair of plain white ones like his character wears in VMK. But he had to settle for white Shaq sneakers. And Lizzie wanted black canvas Hi-Tops. Fortunatly there were none in her size and I convinced her that they would have looked wierd on her legs anyway. So we ended up with some cute black canvas ones with a red and yellow argyle on the side. Together both pairs were around $20.
Good luck to everyone else's shopping

Re: BTS Shopping

WOW I buy DS a zip up binder an mechanical pencils, cause he prefers them to regular pencils. But all supplies are provided by our school district, including an assignment book. I can't believe the lists that you all have of supplies you need to buy.

Sorry I have not heard of maganetic envelopes before!
I do know that a friends DD (14) needt to buy a zip drive last year. They should have decent prices cause of BTS.

Good Luck to you all!!

I'm in the same boat as you are. My dd is starting Middle School this year and we just got a letter from the school stating her schedule, homeroom and team assignment will be mailed the week of Aug 21 including a supplies list. Then they have an open house on Aug 31 where you bring your child in with their schedule so they can find all their classrooms. Finding supplies over Labor Day weekend should be a challenge.

Re: BTS Shopping

I bought supplies several weeks ago for the younger two. DS (8) cost me 30 cents (the only thing I had to buy was a set of new pink erasers) and DD (12) was around $20. I had stockpiled the 8 cent spiral notebooks last year so didn't need anymore of those or folders. DS, 14, on the other hand, will start high school and they don't give out supply lists. On the first day of school each teacher will tell the kids what they need. That ought to be fun! Searching for supplies when everything is gone. I got him some paper, pens and a new zip binder, and we'll hope for the best. I'm guessing and dreading the calculator he'll need for math. Probably one of those $100 thingies.

Re: BTS Shopping

My boys ( in middle school) come home with a letter from EACH teacher listing what they require for that class.. it's usually just a folder & a 1 subject notebook (10 cents at Wal-Mart, I stocked up last week) Some ask for a 5 subject. the boys also informed me they don't want a bookbag.. tey are going to carry everyhing in their binders. Jamie is in several AP classes this year so I'm waiting to see what odd things they ask for..

Shelby's teacher is the same one she had last year ( teacher moved from 2nd to 3rd grade & we requested her again.. she's one of our favorites) & this teacher is a no frills teacher.. she asks for a small box of kleexex, crayons, a pencil, glue sticks & a folder.. nothing else.. everything else is supplied by her.. the less things in the kids desk the better she likes it! She laughed on the first day last year when all of the kids brought in pencil sharpeners, pencil boxes etc.. & Shelby brought the basics.. ( Jamie had this teacher so we know her likes) Hopefully she's the same no frills as a 3rd grade teacher!

As for clothes.. I can't believe it but we went through all of the kids clothes last night & they have TONS of clothes for school.. THey each might need a new outfit or two but in jeans & shirts they're set.. Brendan is going to need som more jeans ( AS I said in my famiyl room post) but everyone has a closet full of clothes.. YIPEE!! I'm sure they'll take me broke with their shoes as we haven't even begun shopping for them!

here is what Google says means nothing to me

Modeling of the power-dependent velocity of microwave magnetic envelope solitons in thin films

(Received 5 October 1998; accepted 5 March 1999)

Recently obtained single soliton solutions to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with additional higher order nonlinear and dispersion terms have been used to model the properties of microwave magnetic envelope solitons in thin films and, in particular, the recently observed power-dependent soliton velocity in these films. The modeling is based on an empirical scaling between the dimensionless amplitude parameters in the higher order nonlinear Schrödinger (HONLS) equation and the pulse power levels in the experiment. Based on this scaling, the amplitude-dependent soliton velocity from the HONLS equation solution is shown to match the velocity versus power response from the experiment. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.

Re: BTS Shopping

We too have been slowly checking each Sunday's ad to see if they have anything we need on sale! DD's backpack and lunchbox are still in GREAT condition (I spent the $ last year and bought LL Bean), so even though I know it's fun to get a new one, I asked her if we could do a new one every other year instead. Such a big, grown-up girl she is sometimes, she said, "Ok, Mama."

Re: BTS Shopping

We did ours yesterday. Oldest DD needed just a few things but the school will supply most. I'm glad, when they were in private school I would easily spend $200.
