As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: What is Magic?
Magic is having myself, DH, DD#1 and DD#2 all together at one time in one place - a difficult feat with everyone's hectic schedules
Magic is hearing the kids say: "look Mom, Dad's smiling and having fun"
Magic is watching my DH get soaked on Kali River Rapids
Magic is having Mickey wake us up each morning
There is so much magic I could go on and on and on....

Re: What is Magic?
In 1990 we were at WDW for our 10th anniversary. This event is one that I often think of, because it was unexpected and so very Magical...
We were outside on main street watching Mickey sign autographs. There was a little girl, all dressed up in a blue dress, her long dark hair tied up with a matching ribbon. Mickey took her hand, and they began to walk into one of the nearby buildings. Instinctivly, we all followed. Mickey lead her down a hallway, draped in broquaded fabric, with a curtain at the end of the hall. Mickey reached behind the curtain, and they parted, revealing a dark room with a single spotlight shinning on the floor. He escorted his little friend to the center of the spotlight, and after bowing to her, he took her little hands in his and they began to dance. There was no music, but it no one really noticed. The best part was, no one spoke, no one wanted to break the magic. The look on that little girls face is why I keep coming back...

Re: What is Magic?
What a neat thread!
Magic is the little memories....
Cappucino at the Fountainview Cafe...
A great bus driver who entertains you with trivia...
A ride in the front of the monorail...
The Electric Water Pageant for the first time...
The smell of popcorn on Main street....
That first glimpse of the castle on the first day...and sharing it all with people I love and who love me.

Re: What is Magic?
A little background... my experiences with amusements parks growing up were limited to Six Flags over Texas, Astroworld, and a couple of great parks in Denver. Each of them primarily had "thrill" rides - the coaster at one of the Denver parks especially was intense and scary.
So when I first went to the famed Disneyland, my expectations were all screwed up. I expected the same type of experience, but more so, because of the great reputation of the park. And for the first half of the day, I did not enjoy myself. I thought the rides were lame and often boring. (That I was a teenager at the time may have been a factor!)
Then, mid-afternoon, the "Disney Magic" hit me. I still remember the feeling I had when I realized that Disney wasn't trying to shake me up and scare me, they were concentrating on fun! And for the rest of the day I "lightened up" and let myself have a good time. And this six-foot-plus guy had tears of delight in his eyes that same evening watching the Main Street Electrical Parade!
Now, in just over nine months, I'll see if I can glimpse that same delight in the eyes of my two children. I can't wait!

Re: What is Magic?
Magic is what makes me feel like there's absolutely nothing wrong in the whole world.
Magic is what happens when a child sees his or her favorite character for the first time, and the character calls the child by name.
Magic is seeing a Make-a-Wish child, escorted by Peter Pan and Wendy, riding all the Fantasyland rides together.
Magic is seeing that Make-a-Wish child's mother, smiling through her tears, following closely behind.
Magic is what happens every time you see another little detail you hadn't seen before: the ghost playing the organ in the Haunted Mansion (or, really, his shadow on the floor) ... the signs on the windows in the upstairs windows on Main Street ... the hidden jokes in the pre-show area of just about any ride or show.
What a great thread! Thanks for posting, everybody.

Re: What is Magic?
Katie says its magical everytime she sees Cinderella's Castle for the first time each trip.
For me its seeing her face light up everytime she sees the Castle for the first time. Even though we went several times before she was born, we really truly love it now.

Re: What is Magic?
To me, Disney magic can be summed up by describing an experience I had on my last trip (February, 2000)....
My best friend and I were in the Magic Kingdom, sitting at one of the tables on Main Street. Each of us was munching happily on a treat of some sort (can't remember what, but it came from the Main Street Bake Shop) and we were enjoying a brief rest before going on to tackle more of the park. We were both sitting there enjoying the peace and joy of the moment--we were on vacation in Disney World! -- when we were approached by an elderly gentleman dressed in the "uniform" common to most of the CM's on Main Street (white pants, striped shirt, armband). This gentleman was very friendly and asked us all sorts of random things about ourselves and about how we were enjoying our stay. After handing us each a Mickey sticker, he moved on to a family sitting nearby to repeat the process.
Later that night, my friend and I recalled this gentleman and marveled when we realized that, as far as we could tell, his only job was to make sure that people were happy. He seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were having a good time and in doing whatever he could to make our vacation just a little bit better.
That's Disney magic to me - one person going the extra mile to make sure that another person is happy.
Just my two cents....
Leslie
