Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: This man needs a serious dose of Magic

That guy needs more than a dose of magic.

I have to rant:

What a jerk. I was appalled at his 2 full paragraphs about "larger" people . . . and he definitely should get his facts straight (ie: names of attractions and such) before he reports on them.

And WHY was there a big deal about his 3 year old and finger scans, I wonder?! Kids fingers aren't scanned. Methinks he might have exagerrated a bit.

OK . . . rant over.

Re: This man needs a serious dose of Magic

Okay, I must rant also!

The writer states he was in a car that crashed on EE. And it was so intense he thought he was going to die and his affairs were not in order. He also said his DD was with him and not having a good time.

I've been on EE. Where does the car crash? And is it a car? I thought it was a train. And car or train, again I ask, where did it crash??? And while EE is a thrill ride, I never once thought about the fact that my affairs were not in order. It's NOT that bad, and I'm afraid of the dark. I am sorry his little one was frightened by the ride. EE is one ride I wouldn't take my DD on. I did figure this out by doing some research before hand and testing it out for myself. You would think someone who writes travel reviews would think to do the same.

And like Sarah said, since when do three year olds have to do a finger scan?

I'm sorry security was so tight when President Bush was there, but that is not Disney's falt. Sorry dude, but ever since our country was attacked by terrorist on 9/11, we have become a bit more cautious. I am glad to see we have stepped things up a bit to try to prevent it from happening again. If a guard tells me I can't do something because of security reasons, I respect and understand it.

His comments about oversized people were flat out offensive. And don't even get me started on the fact that he called my beloved WL a "concrete log cabin".

I'll stop now. Rant over. I guess it would have been easier for me to simply say that some people just don't get or feel the magic. And that is just flat out sad for them.

Re: This man needs a serious dose of Magic

He was so determined to bash WDW that he lost out on all the magic. He was there with his two young daughters and even if he couldn't feel the magic, couldn't he have tried to see it through their eyes. The comments about large size people were very cruel and I felt some US bashing throughout the article.

Re: This man needs a serious dose of Magic

Sounds as though this man shouldn't get anywhere near any amusement park. Even if he didn't see the magic he should have seen it in his children. Maybe next time his wife should just leave him on a beach at home and bring the girls herself.

His loss.

What a life he must lead if he can't find fun at a place like Walt Disney World. I feel sorry for his kids.

Re: This man needs a serious dose of Magic

He obviously doesn't get it. If he would take one moment to sit back and watch the magic instead of barrelling through Disney looking for things to critize, he would be as in love with it as we are. I (yes, me) was a Disney skeptic and even went when I was about 21 or 22 and had a so-so time. It took taking my DD to be renewed as to what Disney is all about. It IS the most magical place on Earth, you just have to take the time to see it.

Re: This man needs a serious dose of Magic

I love Disney but I love it more because I get to see the excitement in my DDs eyes when she sees her favorite characters or goes on a favorite ride. His children were obviously excited but he didn't seem to get it or appreicate it.

I did take offense to the oversized comment. The beauty of Disney is that Disney does not discriminate. I can't think of a single ride that an oversized person can't ride.

His beef with security was totally off-base. In a post 9-11 world we can't be too careful. I for one appreciate the measures security ANYWHERE takes and if they want to stop me from going somewhere, rifle through my belongings then go for it. I have nothing to hide and I feel safer for it.

To complain that security is extra tight because the President was on Disney property is absured. Regardless of what political side you are on or what country you are from, this is the President of the United States and you have to respect the security detail who is putting their lives on the line to keep our President safe.

And then we are left to wonder how much of his article is actually made up. No 3 year old would ever be asked to have their hand scanned. When I stayed at the "concrete log cabin" I didn't see anyone ready to run over and fill in the holes or footprints we made in the sand. And I highly doubt when I ride EE for the first time that I will be worrying whether or not my affairs are in order.

Okay...down off my soap box now! :-)

Re: This man needs a serious dose of Magic

His writting...more importantly...his humor is very british. My husband loves all things british and I find the humor very different than here.

I can say that I tend to get overloaded on the parks sometimes, so we opt for half days or only mornings and nights.

Sorry to those who got offended...If we were to go to england I am sure there would be things about the food, dental care or other "sterotype" that we might point out in a trip report trying to be funny.
