Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Dining on MNSSHP
We are going to the party on the last night we are at the world. I know the party starts at 7 pm and have only been able to LOCK DOWN a table service dinner for 8 pm. We plan on seeing the later parade...are we blowing the experience with having dinner at 8 pm at LTT? It's the first night of the MNSSHP.
I just don't know what to expect from the event and how much or how little there will be to do with a 4 year old.

Was 8pm the earliest they had available?
When we got our ADR for LTT for MVMCP fir this past December, I asked what the absolute earliest they had available was and they wee able to give me 6:05 or 6:20 (I forget which one it was exactly) . . . worst case scenario, keep the 8pm and keep calling back periodically to try and get an earlier time slot. Sometimes, they open up earlier times as time goes on and there are always a few cancellations! [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

If you do the 4pm dinner (just eat an early or light lunch), then you won't miss any of the party. Even if you are still in the restaurant at 6pm when the park closes to the public, you will be fine!
Our MVMCP dinner felt really rushed because we had somewhere to be at 7:15pm . . . and we were still late for that. [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/crazy.gif[/img]

I understand your problem. In making our plans I am trying to get the earliest available. Also, will their be any counter services open during the MNSSHP so we can grab a snack later since we are eating so early...do you know this?

As far as I remember, from MNSSHP in 2004, Cosmic Ray's was open . . . we ate there during the first parade of the night. I don't recall much else that was open, but I am sure there was something else open as well.

I would not do LTT at 8:00. You will miss too much of the party. There are so many things to do. She must do the dance party in Fantasyland. Too cute.
Anyway, I would take the 4:00 or do a late TS lunch at a resort and do CS for dinner. Cosmic Rays will be open and I believe Pecos Bill's is open as well.
The only way to eat at the party in my opinion, is to do so somewhere between 5-6:00. Then you are done by 7:00 when the party starts.
Just my opinion again, but I really suggest not eating a TS at 8:00 if you can help it.

I would not do an 8pm ps either. Why don't you try to see if you can get one of the MK area resort restaurants (Whispering Canyon, Chef Mickey, 'Ohana, 1900 Park Fare) for 5pm?

We are going to be there that night also- we decided for the 4pm at LTT and then snacking later on. From what I have read there will be plenty to do for 4 year olds-most of Fantasyland will be open, there are Dance Parties and Candy Stops!. There is also a lot of character interaction, so a lot of autograph opportunities. And, if you want to catch the Headless horseman, I read he only comes by for the first parade.
So, if you can I would change to the 4pm seating. The 4 year old might not want to stop to eat once the party starts.
And, I also read that as the night goes on at LTT - waits even with ADR's get longer and longer, so you might not even sit down to eat until 9pm when Hallowishes start(9:15?)

Another suggestion here for the 4 pm seating. It's a perfect time! Dinner won't be rushed plus you won't miss any of the party. After dinner you will be able to go onto Main Street for shopping or Tomorrowland to get your free picture or go on some rides.
There are a lot of places open for snacks later if you are hungry so you could snack while you watch the fantastic parade! It's something you don't want to miss even a part of!

Another vote for the 4:00 seating. If you're hungry later, grab a snack.
I pulled out my map from last year's party and here are the (non table service) food places that were open last year: Casey's Corner, Plaza ice cream parlor, Main St. bakery, Pecos Bill's, Westward Ho Fronteirland Turkey leg, Sleepy Hollow, Mrs. Pott's cupboard. So, 2 counter service and a few snack places.

We ate at the Plaza Resturant last year before the party started so we would not miss any of the party. I think our ADR was for 5:30 or so. Worked perfectly for us. I definately would not do an 8:00 ADR.
