Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Cedar Point Ohio

I am a huge roller coaster fan and I live about 7 hrs from Cedar Point. I was thinking about going up there one weekend this summer. Has anybody been? Would it be worth it. If I stay for a couple of days is there any other place that I must see besides the amusement park? Any hotels you would recommend? I'm just checking out the cost to see if it would be worth it. Any tips would be appreciated.

Re: Cedar Point Ohio

Cedar Point is the best amusement park if you like coasters!! It would take you at least a day to ride all the rides. They have a hotel there, The Breakers, that is very nice, but I'm not sure how expensive it is, since we live co close we never stay over night. They have the indoor water park now which is supposed to be very nice. You could also make a day trip to Kelley's Island. That is a lot of fun there too!!

According to my DH, there is no better amusement park for roller coaster lovers. I rode one there and was sick the rest of the day. I just don't do well on coasters! Sad!

Re: Cedar Point Ohio

Friends of mine are headed out to Cedarr Point later this summer and camping out. Anyone know of any discounts on park tickets? He can get a military discount w/ ID but his girlfriend will have to pay full price, which is over $50, so they're not sure they can spend more than one day there. I will watch this space for further details. in advance!

Re: Cedar Point Ohio

We live about 1 1/2 hrs. from Cedar Point. It's the best amusement park that I've been to. (Disney doesn'r count because it's a theme park) I believe that there are 16 roller coasters there. I've only been on 2. DD and DH have ridden all of them. Because we live so close, we have never stayed over night. There are several hotels and motels in the area.

Re: Cedar Point Ohio

I went last summer...I have to say...that is the BEST rollercoaster place in the world. I have ridden A LOT of the coasters there like Millenium Force, Wicked Twister, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Corkscrew, Iron Dragon, Magnum XL, Mantis, Raptor, and that's it. I was having NOTHING of riding the Top Thrill Dragster, umm..NO..try I am NOT going 420 ft in the air to either fall back down again, or find myself spiraling toward the ground vertically..emm...I only do those types of vertical drops when my feet are dangling out the bottom...for some reason I don't feel it as much!)
I love Cedar Point! It was great. I actually live really close to their other park, Valleyfair. It does NOT compare at all to Cedar Point, which is why we chose to go there. It is REALLY fun! The rides are great, and I thought it was neat to ride the originals of the rides we have here at our park. (We have the Corkscrew and Power Tower, but otherwise the only real duplicates are the smaller spinny rides).

Re: Cedar Point Ohio

I am actually going to Cedar Point in a week. It doesn't look like we are going to stay overnight but there are a TON of hotels in the area. Tickets are about $44 a piece however most AAA offices have discounted tickets (about $10 off). If you have a Meijer close you can get weekend tickets from Meijer for $37 and change and weekday tickets for $34 and change. There are other things to do in the area but Cedar Point is the largest. There are actually 2 parks... an amusement park and a water park. I have never been to the water park. The last time I went to Cedar Point was in September 2000 so I am sure alot has changed since then. I can't wait to go again!

Re: Cedar Point Ohio

Cedar Point rocks!!!

We have been there twice, and loved it both times. It is a very clean and nice park. Both times we drove the first day (about 8 hours for us), did the parks for 2 days, and drove home the 4th day. We stayed at a Ramada one time, and a Comfort Inn the next. I don't remember what we paid, but I know it was reasonable. If you have a little extra money or time, you can stay right by the park (walking distance) right on the lake. There is also a Great Wolf Lodge (indoor water park and hotel) out there which has family suites as well as regular rooms.

Food is plentiful from local places to fast food to chains, like Friendly's Uno's and Olive garden.

Soak City is the water park attached to Cedar Point, and it is one of the best water parks I have ever been to. We felt comfortable enough and safe enought there to let the boys (DStepS and DNephew) go off on their own (they were 16 and 12) while we relaxed in the hot tub. They have an adults only swim up bar and adult pool, too. The family tube slide and river rides are great!

There are discounts available for two day passes, and for combo tickets for Soak City and Cedar Point. Here is the website, and you can request a mailer to be sent to you!

Re: Cedar Point Ohio

We stayed at a B&B in Port Clinton OH, which was about a 12 minute drive to Cedar Point.

www.ScenicRockLedgeInn.com

One of the best B&B's I've ever stayed in, beds were comfortable, inn was quiet, breakfast was fabulous. We spent a day at CP, another at Put-in-Bay and another just puttering around. It was a wonderful Time

Re: Cedar Point Ohio

I went to Cedar Point 3 years ago and it's pretty fun. I think the park has a coaster for everyone! You can get a discounted one day ticket from www.cedarpoint.com for $36. Ticket prices actually went down recently to $40 for a one day ticket.

If you must go to Cedar Point, stay at an onsite Cedar Point hotel. You get in 30 minutes early and do the good stuff before the crowd comes in. I believe Raptor, Maxair, and Millennium Force are open during early entry. It seems to change every year, though. I like the Breakers for the proximity to the parks, but some people don't like staying in a 100 year hotel (why? I don't know!). The Breakers Express is like a very nice Holiday Inn. It's probably one of the better hotels in the area. You stil have to pay to park, but the price is good for what you get. I stayed in a hotel around the causeway area and it was kind of dumpy!

You can also get discount tickets through the Cedar Point Getaway Guide. You can get one free off Cedar Point's homepage.
