Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Anyone been to Kalahari Waterpark in Wisconsin?

I was interested to hear what people had to say about this apparently huge indoor water park? My family is considering the possibility of going there over New Year's weekend to visit with my sisters and their families. Apparently, we can get a giant suite that would fit all 12 of us. This could be fun or tortuous...yet to be decided.

Anyway, I was more interested in finding out about the water park itself. Is it nice? Is it strange with the whole thing being indoors? Does is smell all musty/stuffy? Is it good for little ones (1 and 3.5 yrs old)? Stuff like that. All opinions are welcome!

I've never been to one, but they are building one right now about 10 minutes away from us!

Re: Anyone been to Kalahari Waterpark in Wisconsin?

Hi Jeff. Is this in Wisconsin Dells? I have a friend whose entire family has a little reunion every winter and stays in a suite (although I think they stay at the Great Bear (or wolf?) Lodge) I've looked at pictures of some of the indoor parks there and they look fabulous, especially for little ones.

Re: Anyone been to Kalahari Waterpark in Wisconsin?

We stayed at the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells in June 2002. We enjoyed it. We just had a regular room. They have both an indoor and outdoor water park, although I imagine the outdoor part will be closed when you will be there. The indoor park had a small wave pool, a lazy river than went around the wave pool, 2 or 3 of body/tube slides (they were fast and one was really dark), a family raft slide, a play area for little kids and another play area for older kids. The hotel itself was nice, comparable to Disney.

Originally we were going to go to Noah's Ark too, but since my son broke his arm on the way there, we didn't. But between the indoor and outdoor water parks, we didn't miss it. Being in the hotel, it was easy to go down for an hour or two and then do something else - or do it after doing something else.

You will have fun.

Re: Anyone been to Kalahari Waterpark in Wisconsin?

Hi Jeff,
We live about 40 min from Wisc. Dells. We stayed at the Kalahari back in March. Quite an experience. It definately is the mother of all indoor waterpark hotels - hands down. It was really fun. We have a 2yr and 5yr old. The water was warm and they have a large interactive (2 stories) area for kids. It is quite splashy and sprays alot. I don't like all the random spraying and stuff, but my son liked it. They do have an awesome lazy river that opens up into a wave pool which is really fun. You are even able to use your own inflatable water rings for kids if you want(kind that goes around their tummy - Walmart sells them for something like .99). That worked better for my son, 'cuz the hotel ones are to big for him. This way he could do it himself. The river is only 2 -3 feet deep. I also liked the waterslides. We spent most of our time doing the river - it was so fun. From what I remember, when we walked in the lobby, they had 2 baby tigers that you could get your picture taken with. A foodcourt with a sub sandwich place, a restaurant. Also a candy counter in the lobby with dipped strawberries, chocolates, etc. for sale. I also remember seeing a pottery room that you could make/paint a piece of pottery. As soon as they run another special, we are going to go again. The indoor water parks don't smell musty or anything. Just your typical pool smell (chlorine).

We have also been to the Wilderness Lodge which is fun. Except the water there is cold for us. We prefer warm "bath" type temps. My friend who also goes there says the water is cold, so it's not just us. They do have a fabulous interactive dry playland. It's like a giant McDonalds - except adults can easily fit in the tubes. There are "air" blaster guns that kids and adults can shoot using soft nerf-like balls. You can go around and collect them and either shoot them or put them into interactive things - like a tree stump that when you press the button shoots all the balls up in the air. The playland is 3 stories high. We've actually stayed at the Wilderness just to do the dry playland and not even swim.

Our ultimate favorite indoor waterpark is Treasure Island/Family Land. It's definately not as glamorous as the others, but the water is warm and it is quite economical for us. They are one of the only hotels to accept the Entertainment card. We can get a family suite w/2 bedrooms, fireplace, etc for only $79/night (6 passes included) and a regular 2 Queen bed for $35/night (4 passes)with the entertainment card (that's 50% discount during off season). They have an interactive play area for the kids - a pirate ship with a couple of waterslides that even my daughter loves to go on. We always end up coming back to this hotel. Maybe it'll snow when you are there - it's so awesome to have it snowing and look outside while you are in your swimsuit swimming. Hope this helps.

Re: Anyone been to Kalahari Waterpark in Wisconsin?

Thanks so much everyone for your responses. I grew up on Lake Michigan (Cudahy) but moved away almost (wow!) 20 years ago now. I kind of miss the area. I have a sister who lives just south of Madison and she's the one organizing all this.

As for Kalahari, it sounds like there's plenty of stuff to do for adults and the little ones. Now if we don't all (all 12 of us)kill each other after being in the same room for 3 days everything should be great.

Big thanks to Karen and wiscava for the detailed descriptions and opinions.
