As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Pixie Chicks-5/13/04
Hello
Keep up the great work Cindy!!
I had my weigh in on Tuesday, I lost 5 pounds the first week! I am hoping for a 2 pound loss per week from now on.
We are going away for the weekend, and that is always challenging for me!! But the extra effort to stay on track will be worth it in the long run!

Re: Pixie Chicks-5/13/04
Sounds like you all are doing great! I am pleased to say that I am as well. I had my weigh in and lost 3 more lbs. I reached my 25 lb. mark plus an extra 1.4 lbs, for a grand total of 26.4 lbs. It feels so good to reach a pretty major milestone. It really motivates me to keep going stronger! I couldn't stay for the meeting because my son is sick, so I will celebrate with the group next week. I think I get a magnet or something like that! Coming here and sharing with all of you really helps. Thank you to all of the pixie chicks for giving me a place to share my success and my not so great moments!

Re: Pixie Chicks-5/13/04
Need some pixie dust from fellow pixie chicks! Boy I have been trying so hard to exercise (4 miles a day) and not eat after 6 p.m. Whoa! This has been a challenge for me! I lean on God for strength and ask for his blessing. I'm feeling strong! But in dire need for more support. What are you doing to keep yourself motivated? School is almost out and I am worried that I might go back to my bad eating habits. Please share your thoughts with me..I'm all ears!

Re: Pixie Chicks-5/13/04
Motivation is the "key" and I really think it helps to have a definite "goal". Something that you want SO BAD, that you're willing to work really hard, and "keep" working, to get it. Mine was loosing 60 pounds by my 40th birthday and also a trip to WDW. I made it to 56 pounds and was SO proud of myself! Think of a goal and don't let it slip away! Every morning when you wake up, think of it. When you're craving junk food, think of your goal, and most important....when you feel like giving up.....THINK OF THAT GOAL!!! You can do it!!

I feel like the weights not coming off fast enough! But I am trying to take it slow this time.. I have to admit it's hard. I have lost 5 pounds now and I am very proud of that. How long did it take you to loose your weight? How did you do it? Thanks for your support..It does mean alot to me!

Re: Pixie Chicks-5/13/04
Hi again Toni! You need to remember that the best way to loose weight is s l o w l y. The slower you loose it, the easier it is to keep it off. One to two pounds a week is good. It took me one year to loose 56 pounds which averages out to 1 pound a week. I lost the weight by watching what I ate, mostly cutting down on the fat. I didn't follow any diet plan and I didn't count calories or carbs. I just ate sensibly, which is what everybody needs to learn how to do anyway. Diets don't work, you need to learn HOW to eat right, and make a life change. I also drank lots of water and worked out on the treadmill everyday for about 30-45 minutes. I had been carrying an extra 60 pounds around for over 20 years and was 39 years old when I started and I was able to do it, so can you!

Toni,
I know exactly how you feel! I've been at this for longer than I care to think and I'm only down 3 lbs. BUT, it's 3 lbs I don't have to worry about anymore! Reading the other Pixies progress and struggles has been such a blessing to me; it's great to know I'm not alone! 5lbs is great!

Cindy - this is such great advice! Thank you for sharing your experience with us! I believe everything that you said and I agree 100% that diets don't work - I know this for sure cause as they say..."been there, done that." I want - NEED - to change my habits for a lifetime - and it has to be something I can stick with. Thanks again for sharing - and for being an inspiration!!

Yes..Thanks so much for telling me like it is! My questions is..How do I really now what is good food and what is not? You think I would know by now! With the low-fat,low-carb stuff..it makes it that much harder for me to figure what is good and what is not good for you??

Re: Pixie Chicks-5/13/04
I just stay away from high fat foods like fried foods and "convenient" foods. I eat a high fiber cereal in the morning cause fiber helps burn fat. I snack on veggies and fruit, or sometimes fat-free/sugar-free chocolate pudding with a little bit of Cool Whip Lite. I love soup and I eat that just about every day for lunch. I often have chef salads for dinner that I make with fat-free deli meats and fat-free cheese. Sometimes I'll slice up a serving of what ever meat that DH is having for dinner and have that on my salad instead. I try to stay away from pasta and rice, but occasionally have a baked potato with fat-free ranch dressing on it. I have never counted calories or carbs at all. I just don't understand the whole carb craze. Just because it's low in carbs doesn't mean it's low in fat and sugar. I'm no expert on healthy eating, but this worked for me in the past and I'm comfortable with it. You'll learn what's good for you too. Just remember, if you can toss it on a tray and throw it in the oven, or nuke it for a couple minutes in the microwave, it's probably not good to eat.
