As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

The crepes were one of my favorite parts of our celebrity cruise and those little casual special restaurants are something I wish Disney would take note of! We did savory and then sweet ones and they were all wonderful!

When was your Celebrity cruise? I may have missed your TR, if you did one on this cruise and perhaps, may have been before I was regularly doing the TR thing here! Since, about 2012 on this basis. I think the first one was Cheryl's 2012 London Olympics and a great one to start with! Just guessing!

I did it in 2014 I'm pretty sure and I think I did a TR but I'm on my phone so much harder to go looking at this moment. It was over Valentine's Day.

Right in the middle of the lobby seems like a weird place to hold a fitness class. Your lunch looked really good, especially the dessert. Sorry that your server disappeared. That seems very odd.
It was. I've had it a couple of times before where servers have come over and apologised that their shift is over, but they've introduced us to the person coming in to cover for them.
You know, until I went vegetarian myself, I'd never heard of Quorn before either. I remember a few years ago when you guys came to Cologne to meet up with us, we went to a McDonald's and you had me ask the staff (in German) if the veggie burger contained Quorn. Back then, I thought you meant corn so that's what I asked them and yep, the veggie burger does have corn in it. I am fairly certain, though, that it does not contain Quorn so you could've actually had that burger at McDonald's all those years ago
Too funny! Oh never mind, I know I can always have a Fillet of Fish safely at McDonald's, but it's just sometimes nice to try out a veggie burger.
Lunch looked good and especially the Grand Marnier crepes, which I love! I can't believe the size of Mark's salad, yet he had no problem devouring the entire thing!
We headed down to deck 4, and found some of the bars…
… and Cellar Masters, a wine bar, which looked very relaxing and rustic. Hmmm… we might have to come back here later and try it out.
We wandered over to the Moonlight Sonata restaurant, and I saw a sign that said there were two lines to get in – one without reservations and one for those with, but how do you get reservations? We asked, and apparently you can book for the following night, but not that evening. We were told they were fully booked early on, although we were a bit confused when they told us that if we showed up at 7:00pm, then they’d give us a pager, we could go and get a drink, and then by the time we’d got one, they’d page us and have a table for us. I’m not quite sure how this works in reality, but I guess we’ll find out later…
We wandered down to deck 4…
… saw the casino…
… and wandered our way through the shops on this deck. At first they looked the same as on the upper deck, with lots of designer names, but finally we found a shop that sold vaguely normal things…
They had some Celebrity merchandise…
… and some other bits…
I particularly liked the T-shirts in the third to last shot, and picked up a couple of different designs, and sizes, as I wasn’t sure which ones would suit me, and which would fit me. I couldn’t see a changing room anywhere, so I asked a crew member, and they told me you could just take stuff back to your room, try it on there, and then come back. Of course, they made a note of what you’d taken, along with your name and room number.
We headed back to the room, and I decided on the blue and the white T-shirts, so we then headed back, with all of them in hand, and returned the ones I wasn’t going to get. We also got a Celebrity Eclipse fridge magnet. They had about five or six designs, which is way better than we’ve ever see on Disney before.
While we were in the shops, we heard the champagne art auction taking place upstairs – we know one piece went for $10,300 and another went for $6,900 from what we heard. Oh my goodness! I know I said earlier on in the cruise that I wondered whether the speciality restaurants and the spa were quiet because people didn’t want to or didn’t have the money to spend – well, the latter certainly doesn’t apply to everyone!
Done with shopping, we made our way along deck four, and found another lovely bar area. I’d noticed the bar area before, but not the attached seating area, and it looked like another neat place to sit.

I'm always surprised at some of the big ticket items they have for sale on cruises. Our last DCL cruise, I found a bracelet I liked, but then found out it was more than $10,000! Nope, not this time.
Glad you found some shirts. 2 for $30 seems very reasonable - at least I think that was what the sign said.

That was nice and we found we liked the Sky Lounge and spent most of our time in there.
