Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

NEXT: Yep, he broke it!

Day 7 Saturday, May 14, 2016 Part 3

After Pangani Forest Exploration Trail, we temporarily separated from Pam and Charlotte as we had differing FastPass+ attractions coming up. Pam and Charlotte saw The Festival of the Lion Kingdom which had a technical difficulty and was delayed and possibly truncated. Pam thought so, but she said all the parts were there. We stopped for a PP photo at the Africa sign on our way to our own FastPass+, which was It’s Tough to Be a Bug.

We haven’t used a FP+ for this in a long time because usually it doesn’t have a long way anyway. So we were totally turned around when we got the theater lobby as we usually come in the other way. We enjoyed the show, but felt the bug spray was denser as it totally fogged up the theater with no visibility, and then cold air came rushing in with it. We honestly didn’t remember it being exactly that way.

Afterward the show, Luke and I walked to Asia, bought drinks at the Yak & Yeti counter service, and found a very shady table to relax until Pam and Charlotte’s return. From our table I could see the gibbons were out, so I left Luke in the shade to rest and took photos of gibbons.

Eventually, Pam and Charlotte made it back to us and our shady table just in time for our last FastPasses of the day, Kali River Rapids. We got a large locker for the four of us and stowed away anything that water might harm. We some wait even in FP+ line, but standby was at 75 minutes, so we were not complaining. When our turn came we loaded a boat, but had to climb back out when a young boy tore up his sister’s seatbelt while mom and dad took care of themselves. Supervision parents, please! We joined a different crew for our rapids adventure that did not include this family and we were thankful. The big wave got almost all of us, less for Luke and the little girl across from him. Pam, Charlotte and two couples took the brunt and were sopping wet. So much fun, even though Pam and I were immediately shivering. As we exited, a guy waiting to ride, kept pointing to each of us and telling his group she’s wet, he’s wet, they are all wet. Too funny!

All of us were hoping to see tigers so we headed to the Maharajah Jungle Trek. After checking everywhere that CMs told us to look – there were no tigers – Boo! I did catch a few birds in action, but that was it.

The Bar Headed Goose of Asia always make me think of Stefanie. She loved the Brady Bunch and watched the Very Brady Christmas literally hundreds of times. The middle daughter Jan is having marital problems and mentions to her husband at one point that she believes he cares more for his bar headed geese than her. Stefanie always thought that was funny. It was so neat to finally discover these at Animal Kingdom. They are pretty little geese.

Then as we traveled back through Asia, I got a few more photos of the new theater for the Rivers of Light show.

We traveled back to Africa as Pam was in search of a backpack. No luck! She really wanted to find one like my Kilimanjaro Safaris canvas backpack with all the cool cubbies. But I bought this 5 or so years ago and then the newest model really isn’t as cool.

Finally, time to head out wit Pam and Charlotte heading to the parking lot and Luke and I to the bust stop. At the bus stop, we talked with a young family headed to Sanaa and they were hoping for a bit of direction. After we reached the Kidani bus stop, I gave them directions on how to get to Sanaa from the front lobby. We returned to our room to freshen up before our own dinner at Sanaa.

Near time for dinner we headed down to the first floor. We had a pretty long wait to be seated, which finally annoyed me enough that I returned to the check in counter to question. I was told a table was almost ready, and then magically our pager went off. My thinking is we were temporarily lost in the system. During our wait, we had time to observe the animals on the savanna. I enjoyed watching the Thompson gazelles butting heads.

Sanaa is our favorite WDW restaurant. I immediately ordered an Iron Horse Fairy Tale Cuvee since I had not had one yet this trip. This one was a little strong for me tonight. But thankfully, we had nowhere else to be. I apologize as I took a photo of my champagne and then promptly forgot for the remainder of the meal to take any more photos. My excuse -- the wine. :rofl2; But I can still describe the meal for you. For our appetizer we had the Indian-style Bread Service with Traditional Naan, Garlic-Ginger Naan, and Paneer Paratha along with all nine accompaniments - Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, Mango Chutney, Tomato-Date Jam, Tamarind Chutney, Coriander Chuntey, Garlic Pickle, Red Chile Sambal, or Spicy Jalapeño-Lime Pickle. I love the large wooden platter that is used to serve the bread and accompaniments, and it was especially helpful that the accompaniments were lined up in ascended order of spiciness and heat.

My entrée was the Slow Cooked chicken and beef with Basmati rice, which I get every time, though I did look over the whole menu just to be sure that was what I wanted. Luke’s entrée was the Slow Cooked Durban Shrimp and Durban Chicken with Basmati rice. And we were two happy souls by the end of the meal.

Summary/Conclusion: Back on the second floor, we picked up the Larry Dotson prints that had been shipped to Johari Treasures for us. Then it was back to the room to relax for a little bit before bed, watching several first season episodes of The Big Bang Theory. We love this show as it never fails to crack us up. Lights were out around 11:00.

Mystery Photo:
The earlier mystery photo was from Disney Outfitters, one of the shops and was over one of the penny pressing machines. And now for another from this same day and same park. Where is this?

NEXT: Slow morning at DHS

Sounds like an afternoon filled with fun, laughter and sweet memories (except for the family on KRR. How in the world did a little boy break a safety belt?)
I'm guessing that the mystery picture was taken at Yak & Yeti outdoor seating area.
Glad Luke's health is improving and I am hoping that his pain is becoming more manageable every day.

Great day at AK. Love all of your reviews of Sanaa - so much so that I booked a lunch for 6 of us on December 22! Thought it would be a great warm up to MVMCP.

I LOVE Sanaa, especially that bread service! It's just so good.
I was intrigued by the comment that your drink was stronger than usual....isn't it just champagne/sparkling wine? I don't know that I've ever noticed a difference in how strong the same vintage seems to me at different times. Although it will hit harder on a hot day, I'd guess, or on an empty tummy.

He stood up and pulled with all his might, yanking and basically acting out, but mom and dad said nothing.

The mystery photo is not at Yak & Yeti, but you are in the right area of AK -- it's somewhere in Asia.

That should be a great warm up to MVMCP!

I was intrigued by the comment that your drink was stronger than usual....isn't it just champagne/sparkling wine? I don't know that I've ever noticed a difference in how strong the same vintage seems to me at different times. Although it will hit harder on a hot day, I'd guess, or on an empty tummy.
It probably was technically no stronger than normal, but it went to my head much faster and I didn't start drinking it until after I had eaten quite a bit of bread service so that wouldn't happen. I'm definitely a light weight with alcohol.
