Feelin’ Groovy: A Cam and Luke TR Completed 7/31 - Page 35 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Look back at the pictures. You will find Eeyore with Piglet on his back . This shot is between Rabbit and Pooh. So he was not forgotten just sad as usual looking at the ground.
for Luke!! I love all of your F & G F photos! We were there for it this year and I loved it. So beautiful! Enjoying your trip report as usual.
Thanks! Luke is feeling better today, but the pain keeps hanging on.

Love the topiaries.
Those lounge pants are ultra comfy. We will probably be looking for new Larry Dotson prints each trip now.

Great photos of all the topiaries, sorry about the passport. I hope there will be more food photos in future instalments?
Never fear your donkey was there this year. In fact, when I saw him, my first thought was Cheryl would be so happy.
Those topiaries are just beautiful! I loved them all.
Glad Luke's feeling a bit better. I'm hoping he just gets better and better as the goes on.
The topiaries are so beautiful each year. Luke has been doing better today, and I'm sure that is just going to continue.

I've wondered how they chose which face characters actually get a face on the topiary. I prefer Snow White's look myself.

I did wonder how I had been identified, but figured I’d not get a straight answer, so didn’t bother asking. The whole extra security system is a simple process of walking slowly with my arms raised over my head as I walked through the scanner. Immediately afterward, I was cleared to walk around the park. All was still groovy!"
During my week long solo trip over Memorial Day Week, everytime I went through bag check I got the same greeting at all four parks. By the fifth day of my trip I was a pro at it.
The security CMs were really quite sweet about the whole scanning process, and this won't be my only time. I figured I was lucky that I made it to Day 5 before it happened.

Seems like a great time in Epcot so far with many great photos of the topiaries! I had forgotten about the extra security in place now since the Paris and Brussels terrorist attacks! Just a little inconvenience for a good thing!
Hope all goes well with Luke Tuesday and gets a clean bill of health for this!

The extra security is definitely for our safety, and the security staff I dealt with there were very nice.

NEXT: “Just One More” -- Pause – “Just One More” – Pause – “Just One More” (repeat as many times as you want)
Day 6 -- Friday, May 13, 2016 – Part 3
Our little trio stayed together until a little after 1:00 PM, enjoying the World Showcase, the topiaries, and the food booths. But then we took differing paths due to difference in FastPass+. In fact all of our FP+ rides were for this afternoon. Luke and I headed out of World Showcase for The Seas with Nemo and Friends as that was our first FP+. On the way I captured a few more of the topiaries both part of Fantasia.
When we arrived at The Seas with Nemo and Friends, we walked right on. Honestly, I wouldn’t have minded another two or three rounds on it because we were in the AC and had comfy seats. On Wednesday, Pam and Charlotte had ridden Living with the Land, but it didn’t work out for us. We still love it, so that is where we headed next. Afterwards we were very thirsty, so Luke suggested that we get fountain drinks at Sunshine Seasons since it was nearby. We found a table with a cushy bench seat, and as I sat down, Luke pointed to my left. There was Linda having lunch. So I got to chat some more with her. A bit of a magical surprise.
Refreshed we headed next to FastPass+ #2 Disney/Pixar Short Films in the Magic Eye Theater. We picked this one simply because we needed to pick something, but we LOVED it! We were already fans of the shorts, but seeing them in 3D was a bonus. Our showing Included Get a Horse, La Luna, and For the Birds. Obvious to us was that this theater has had some refurb. I appreciate that, too, as the last time we were inside I felt it was looking rather shabby, especially by Disney standards.
With time o fill before the next FP+, we headed over to Journey into Imagination with Figment. We were just moseying along until the end where a BIG gust of wind and the loud music totally startled us and scared a poor little kid to tears. Otherwise fun! We don’t remember the wind being so strong or the music quite so loud.
Since Soarin’ was down we got to use a second FP+ for Test Track. Normally, we’d do one on our first Epcot day and switch to the other on our second day. Luke was product of his vehicle as it earned First in Power and First in Capability! I should note here that neither of our TT ride photos appears on our PhotoPass account. I know I could contact them and hope to have them added, but I don’t actually care as we had so many other photos that I do love. We do have one TT ride photo, but I don’t know a single person in the car. Weird!
Our next attraction was Mouse Gear since we were in the area. I know this is shopping, but from us it was simply browsing. Well, more like searching for a sweatshirt top I saw yesterday at Studios. It is similar to the one I got at Disneyland back in October, so I’m thinking I’d like one from WDW, too. The one at Studios was a small and I need a medium. Later I checked the Shop Parks app, but had no luck finding it. Over the remainder of the trip I looked in many shops, and finally concluded that the one at Studios was the only one left.
We still had time before our dinner ADR, and Luke asked me if there was anything we hadn’t done yet that I’ really like to do. My answer – meet Joy and Sadness. We had about a half hour wait, but it was so worth it. Joy and Sadness are both adorable. We got some great photos with them, too.
At this point Sadness turned me toward the screen. Seeing the mom and dad with their daughter suddenly sent a wave of grief over me. Sadness sensed this and took my hand and rubbed it. Special Disney magic!
Finally, it was supper time at Teppan Edo. Akira our chef was hilarious. He repeated “Just one more” t at least 10 times while constructing the onion volcano. Then when we and our tablemates assumed he was done, he added just one more and then no more. Finally, the volcano was smoking before it was then transformed into a train, and finally Akira morphed it into Mickey Mouse. He managed to keep our entire table entertained and laughing. Besides that he can cook exceptionally well! Each of our entrees came with a salad, rice, and noodles with veggies (cabbage, spinach, carrots, zucchini and onion) plus two sauces: Ginger and Yum Yum. I chose the Nihon bashi (steak and chicken combo), and Luke picked the Ueno (shrimp and chicken combo). Luke cleaned his plate and I nearly did. I was so proud of myself for eating my entire meal with my chopsticks. Erina server are done the little rubber band trick with them that made them easy for me to use. Luke prefers his American fork. Unfortunately, Tables in Wonderland does not work here. But I love it too much to let that stop me.
Now I’ll let the photos tell the story of dinner. This really was one of the most enjoyable meals of our trip.
Luke got a Tokyo Sunset, which he remembered loving the last time we were here.
Akira
Checking to see if he can add "Just One More."
Minnie Mouse
I don't know about you all, but I'm very hungry right now.
Summary/Conclusion: While in the queue to meet Joy and Sadness, I confessed to Luke that I didn’t think I had the stamina to stay for Illuminations. The weather has been quite warm and somewhat humid, which was wearing us both down. We looked at plans for the rest of the trip, and it felt it might work for Monday night if we could manage a lengthy break in the afternoon, not going back out until dinner. Luke’s appendectomy and the week following had really messed with our normal sleeping, so we both started this trip tired. At the time I was also unaware that I was coming down with either a bad cold or a severe allergy attack, which I’m sure was factoring into why I was also getting so tired.
Back at Kidani Village we stopped by Johari Treasures. Our goal was a Snickers bar to split for our dessert and something for both of us for breakfast. Luke wen the healthy track and got a granola bar while I went with a Hostess Ding Dong. I also found the Minnie Mouse animal cracker type cookies. I love these and always by a box to bring home for a little bit of Disney. I still haven’t opened them, but I suspect I will any day now.
Once back in the room, I finally talked Luke into opening our Lego Mini-Figures. Of the ten we purchased, only two were identical. We have the Toy Story Alien, Buzz (both were Luke’s faves), Stitch, Genie, Minnie, Daisy, Ariel, and Peter Pan. I’d like to pick up a few more as I still want Mickey and Donald.
Luke fell asleep about 9:30 and as I typed, I knew I had to get ready for bed as I was very drowsy. See ya tomorrow!
This may be odd for asking this but somehow, I do not know the Magic Eye Theater for the Pixar film show? How long has this been here and where is it located? With 11 trips to WDW since 2002, I would think, I would know this but don't!
Your dinner at Teppan Edo looked like so much fun and even better as you had a great, entertaining and innovative chef just judging from your photos and how you were entralled by his show! I went here on my last trip in 2014 on my departure day for lunch and really enjoyed it, but I think your show may have been better. There are a few of these eateries near me and always enjoy it there!

Teppan Edo was new for us this last trip as a last minute substitution. Your chef was more entertaining than our s but the food was very good there. I love hibachi places. Your moment of grief brought tears to my eyes. I hope Joy and Sadness don't go away. I want to get to meet them and haven't yet.
