Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

We entered Atlantis in the Coral Towers, which is where we were told to go.

atlantis5 by Jenseib, on Flickr

I asked someone where to buy the tickets and she directed me outside.

atlantis6 by Jenseib, on Flickr

We had to show our industry ID and a business card. Each person could get 4 people in at the reduced price, so only 2 of us had to show our credentials. They have scheduled guided tours and the next one wasn’t till something like 1 PM if I remember right. However, we could go on a self-guided tour which was fine with us. Yes it would be nice to have someone narrate but going on our own we could go as slow or as fast as we wanted to.
We were given instructions on where to go and headed inside to find our way.

We went through a VERY upscale shopping area.

The Chihuly!!!

atlantis10 by Jenseib, on Flickr

If you have read any of my previous trip reports, you know I really like Chihuly glass artwork. I knew Atlantis had some, and it was great to finally see it.

We had to make our way through the casino.

And we exited the Casino and kept making our way, praying we didn’t get lost.

This place has recently been renovated.

I remember that Chihuly glass from when we visited in 2004, I'm so glad they've still got all of it.

Such beautiful glass art around the resort! I'm also a fan, he did an installment at the Dallas Arboretum when I first moved here and I got hooked!

It's very nice. I have seen some better, but I think it's hard to top his museum in Seattle.

Since we had passed the aquarium entrance we backtracked and headed down the stairs.

atlantis31 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis32 by Jenseib, on Flickr

Hi dude!

atlantis33 by Jenseib, on Flickr

And the picture frenzy began. We took a ton of fish pictures as we strolled through.

Going through the Dig, it has an Atlantis story theme, so there are props throughout the tunnels.

atlantis42 by Jenseib, on Flickr

Oh look…LUNCH!

I think he is staring me down.

atlantis46 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis47 by Jenseib, on Flickr

On to more fishies.

atlantis48 by Jenseib, on Flickr

Some of these displays were just so beautiful and the camera couldn’t capture all the vibrant colors.

bah8 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis49 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis50 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis51 by Jenseib, on Flickr

They had laminated sheets that would tell you what the fish were, etc. Very nice and we could pick them up or drop them off at various places. When we got back to the ship I saw several people with them….Um those weren’t to take home with you. Hahaha. I suppose Atlantis would never miss them.

atlantis52 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis53 by Jenseib, on Flickr

bah9 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis54 by Jenseib, on Flickr

They also had a touch area where you could pick up or pet a few things.

atlantis55 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis56 by Jenseib, on Flickr

While I was playing here, the other girls were chatting over on the other side of the room watching these fish.

atlantis57 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis58 by Jenseib, on Flickr

A guy near me kept flipping this little guy over to watch him turn himself back upright.

atlantis59 by Jenseib, on Flickr

I tried to take a video, but of course once I did that, the guy didn’t flip back over like he had in the past.

https://youtu.be/uG_QLVqHqaM

atlantis60 by Jenseib, on Flickr

We then moved on to see what else there was.

Up next…..I have never seen an eel swim before in real life!

Moving on…..

atlantis61 by Jenseib, on Flickr

We then came upon the eels and we stopped to look at them.

bah10 by Jenseib, on Flickr

Then all of a sudden they started swimming.

bah11 by Jenseib, on Flickr

I have never seen eels actually swim in real life. They usually just hang out and look out from their hiding spots. It was really cool…and creepy. Some would swim and others would stay still, then they would move. Really creepy!

Swimming Eels 1

Swimming Eels 2

Someone wondered if they were going to be fed since they were so active.

bah12 by Jenseib, on Flickr

These guys are just so creepy.

atlantis62 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis63 by Jenseib, on Flickr

After we had our fill of the eels we moved on again.

atlantis64 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis65 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis66 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis67 by Jenseib, on Flickr

I actually remember a lot of the areas from my previous time here, which had to be about 13 years ago. In fact I had my picture right there on that same bench. Wish I was that skinny now.

atlantis5 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis68 by Jenseib, on Flickr

Moving on to see more fish.

atlantis69 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis70 by Jenseib, on Flickr

We found Nemo.

atlantis75 by Jenseib, on Flickr

I love colorful fish.

atlantis76 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis77 by Jenseib, on Flickr

Ellen noticed that if you looked up through this tank you could see the buildings and it was kind of cool.

atlantis78 by Jenseib, on Flickr

bah13 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis79 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis80 by Jenseib, on Flickr

And I remember this spot as well from my previous trip.

atlantis81 by Jenseib, on Flickr

Skip is much skinnier here too.

atlantis6 by Jenseib, on Flickr

We finished up this area and surfaced.

atlantis82 by Jenseib, on Flickr

It was really a beautiful day.

bah14 by Jenseib, on Flickr

atlantis83 by Jenseib, on Flickr

Up next…..Let’s just pretend we didn’t see the sign…..

Nice photos from within the Atlantis Resort, which looks like quite a place. I'm sure it's not cheap to stay here! Great photos during your aquarium experience!

Nice Pictures Jen! The eels remind me of The Little Mermaid movie.

Beautiful pictures from Atlantis. Looking forward to seeing the room pics (if you were allowed to take pics, that is).

I have to backtrack and comment on your luggage as I have the Samantha Brown luggage as well (in yellow). I have the large (28") and small (25"). I also have a carry-on shoulder bag and the toiletries bag. I love the Samantha Brown luggage! I can't believe how much stuff fits in those bags! They are so easy to use at the airport - after having the spinner wheels, I would never go back again.
