As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Friday, October 9 – A Hidden Mickey, Time with a Fall Quartet, and a Jazzy Dinner
It was now nearly 4:00 in the afternoon, and the heat was making us very thirsty. Earlier we had seen Coke Corner and planned to revisit at some point in the trip. Now seemed the perfect time. My dad used to collect Coca-Cola memorabilia, so I found this little corner restaurant very interesting. Just outside the entrance there was even a piano player creating a fun atmosphere.
Inside the shop we placed an order for a large Diet Coke for Luke and regular Coke for me. Once we had our drinks, we moved to a counter area to get straws. As Luke put his straw in, he inadvertently created a Hidden Mickey.
From here we slowly strolled down Main Street, sipping our Cokes. We popped into a couple of the shops right at the front of the park. In the Main Street Emporium I was looking for the Halloween party pin, but none were to be found. Just as we were about to exit the shop, I noticed a 2015 Disneyland t-shirt that I liked. So I ended up making a purchase after all.
That actually gave us perfect timing for catching the Dapper Dans outside the Fire Station, singing a variety of fall and Halloween songs. Our favorite was “This Is Halloween” from Nightmare before Christmas. We enjoyed their music for probably 20 minutes, and of course, I took a number of photos. They are so entertaining, and I’m glad that Luke and I have reached the point where we simply stop and listen.
When they finished, we again began our leisurely stroll out of the park. We still had plenty of time to walk comfortably in the heat to our dinner reservation at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen was across from our dining location on Tuesday night, Tortilla Jo’s. The building is designed on New Orleans architecture. I thought had taken a photo of it, but I did not. When we signed in, we were asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor seating. That was a no brainer on a day as hot as this one. Inside! But it was only a wee bit cooler indoors as they kept the large windows slightly opened the whole time. We were seated upstairs in what resembled a large mansion dining room. We didn’t check out the whole restaurant, but the indoors portion seemed to be dividing into a number of fabulous, homey dining areas. Our table was next to a fireplace that I was thankful did not currently hold a roaring fire.
For our appetizer we chose to share the Southern Garlic Cheese Bread. This has in it basil, mozzarella, roasted garlic, and olive oil pureé. Luke does like much basil at all, so I was glad that the bread only had a light touch of it.
For my entrée, I went with the Medallions of Beef which were served with some very creamy mashed potatoes.
Luke went with his favorite Cajun/Creole dish, Pasta Jambalaya with Gulf shrimp, Andouille sausage, roasted chicken, and spinach fettuccine.
We were both quite pleased with our choices, but feeling very sluggish from the excess heat all day. During the meal, background music was provided by two musicians, one playing the banjo and the other a clarinet. I tried getting their photos several time, but due to the distance from our table none turned out really well. The red wall color in this room also made photography a bit tricky.
Neither of us felt like dessert, but Luke’s birthday button earned him a free beignet with ice cream that we shared.
When we finished our meal, we discovered that it was still quite hot outside. We decided we needed an extended time in the air conditioning. The plan then was to return to the Grand Californian and our room.

Looked like a good dinner but seems on your entree it was lathered in sauce and perhaps a bit much!

I can't believe you got so much accomplished on this day with the heat as it was. I'm sure I would have collapsed in my room long before you did. Was the humidity high as well, or was it more of a dry heat?

Thankfully, it was a dry heat or we'd have been very sweaty folks by the end of the day.
