Me, Muffin and WDW for Xmas stuff!! PTR - Page 28 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

A dollar off the cab fare?! Did you report him to the taxi commission? I do wonder if he really had Field Museum on the brain or was taking you for a little tour thinking you wouldn't notice?
I love the windows at AI. Did you see Sunday in the Park? One of my favorite paintings there.
Oh my goodness, I can't believe the handle came off that door! I'd have been straight off there like a shot if that happened to a plane I was on...
And I couldn't believe that cab driver... mind you, we had a sort of similar experience in Boston!
I would have been off the plane too, Cheryl. Muffin is crazy! As far as the cab driver, it's a good thing Muffin knows his way around Chicago!

We not only saw it, we bought a print of it, Colleen!!. We also got a small one for Sean and Jane for Christmas. Those windows are also amazing and I love the story behind them and how they represent the world of Chagall.

I love the Art Institute. I usually head for the Ancient Greek rooms (thanks for the shots of the Corinthian and Black-Figure vases!) and then spend forever looking at the Thorne miniatures. A plane with handles falling off the doors would not inspire confidence! I once had a long delay on a flight because my tray table wouldn't stay up and they had to call maintenance to come with a screw driver. You'd think they'd have noticed that before they let passengers on.
Thank you, my friend!. You may regret that someday

. You are most welcome. Those vases are so cool!! And old!! As for the airplane situation, Muffin is way braver than me!!

I forgot to mention that we are having a little work done at home. All of our carpet is gone. That includes the living room, our bedroom and sitting room areas, the addition, the steps and two bedrooms upstairs. The hardwood flooring looks to be in great shape, so we are having it stripped, buffed and stained a bit darker. We also gutted the stucco walls upstairs and in the addition where Katie lived. The flooring on the addition side will need to be completely installed. So far, this is what has been done and the dry wall dudes are coming back all week to spackle:
Front room addition
More front room addition
Back room addition
More back room addition
Bathroom addition
Upstairs left bedroom
More upstairs left bedroom
Upstairs right bedroom
More upstairs right bedroom
On to Disney stuff..............
Day 8- December 5th!!
Today will be our last day at WDW. We haven't decided yet how long we will spend at the parks as we are only going to stay at the Orlando airport tonight. This gives us great flexibility to do whatever we feel we need more of!!
Our plan is to finish up with packing and then have a nice breakfast at Boma and then head over to MK. We have FP's for:
BIg Thunder Mountain Railroad
Splash Mountain
7 Dwarfs Mine Train
We have no additional meal plans for the day. We may head to Disney Springs to do some Christmas shopping. We may stay at MK. We may head to another park if we feel we need to see more somewhere else. It's kind of nice to not have too many plans today and just go where the day takes us.
We will drive to the airport some time in the evening and check in at the Hyatt. I have read very nice things about this hotel and it will be fun to be able to explore the Orlando airport a bit!!
Next: Once and for all, a few changes and our put together itinerary!!
Nice time in Chicago but a bit crazy with that door and taxi driver! Nice additions being done on the house. Are you preparing to sell shortly and move elsewhere? Nice plans for Disney!

My goodness, that's a heck of a lot of work! I remember how much disruption it was when we had just two rooms carpeted, so I can't begin to imagine how much chaos it's causing for you.

Thanks, Dave!. We would love to sell in the next 5 years. We'll see.

It's a little stressful, but hopefully it will be worth it. Muffin swears it will be done by Thanksgiving. We'll see.

That's quite the work your getting done in your house. 2 years ago we had to install new flooring in the entire house and it was a nightmare.
Thanks, Mayra!!. I love Chicago!! I can't wait until all of this is done!!
The worst of home renovations is what it does to the part of the house NOT being renovated! I hope it goes smoothly and quickly and with as little dry-wall and sanding dust as possible!
I have wanted to visit the Field Museum for years. Our last trip we had planned to visit and made it to the steps before realizing we wouldn't have time. I don't remember why, but I was disappointed. Then Luke got to go for a business conference a few years back when the King Tut exhibit was there, and the conference folks rented the museum for a fancy dinner and special tour of the King Tut exhibit. Boy was I jealous. Dinner and bowling sounded like so much fun! I've talked with Luke and the next time we're in Chicago we will have the city pass, too. Looks like some extensive work on your home. Plans are still looking great!

Oh, Laurie! There is dust everywhere!!!

I just know you guys would love the Field Museum! We would need to go back several times to see everything!!
