As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Your town
Where do you live?I live in Drexel Hill, Pa USA
Is it a town/city or village? It is a town, within the township of Upper Darby.
Where is it close to? It is less than 10 miles from Philadelphia, PA, two hours to the beach, and 24 hours from WDW!(2 hr flight)
Tell us something about it-maybe its history, major industries or useless facts, that sort of thing. Upper Darby Township is the largest township in the country. A virtual melting pot, we have one of the largest high schools in the area. The population of the school is (hold onto your hats) almost 12,000 students Useless fact, huh? Okay...both Ed McMahon and Dick Clark worked in the Country Club down the street from me...Drexelbrook. This is the same location where President Bush had a fundraiser this past summer.
Do you have any tourist attractions in your town? Tourist attractions? Ummmm, I will say no. We are a realtively small part of the township. Nothing to see, here folks!

Re: Your town
Where? Plainfield, IN
town, city? Town - Popoulation is 18,394, founded in 1818
Near? Indianapolis. we are 20 minutes from downtown Indy, and 5-10 minutes from the airport
Products? - Hometown of Galyan's Sporting Goods (there are still Galyans living here - yes, it is a last name)
Because of the proximity to the airport, having I-70 run to the south side of town, and U.S. 40 throught hte center of town, we have a huge distribution shipping complex with lots of different companies.
the town was named for the Quakers that founded it, and the fact that it is a farming town.
We have the Western Yearly Meeting of Friends (Quakers), and the North American Center of Islam (Muslim), and there is a church on almost every corner!
The biggest claim to political fame- Martin Van Buren (some president) sat on a rock here while his carraige was repaired. ANd, yes the Rock is still here.
We have no mayor, and the high school mascot is a Fighting Quaker (an oxy-moron), and we have the largest number of homes that were used for the underground railroad (network to help slaves escape to the north)in the the mid-west
You may remember it as the town that suspended 26 Seniors in 2002 for jumping into the pool as a prank - fully clothed. It made national news, and yes, the parents thought it was stupid to suspend them
also, our Middle school was made famous in 1994 for being the 1st in the nation to go with the no-cuts policy. If you want to be on a team - you are,. There are frequently over 70 girls on the cheerleading squad.

Re: Your town
Where do you live? Bloomsburg, PA
Is it a town / city or village? billed as the "only town in Pennsylvania"
Where is it close to? 35 miles from Wilkes Barre, 30 minutes from Williamsport, 2 hours northwest of Philadelphia...we're in a great location!
Tell us something about it - maybe it's history, major industries or useless facts, that sort of thing. Bloomsburg is a small college town with a booming industry. They keep adding stores, businesses and the such all over town. The great Bloomsburg Fair is held every September. So large we get nearly 100,000 A DAY during the week long fair.
Do you have any tourist attractions in your town? Just the Bloomsburg Fair every September. Twenty minutes away is Knoebel's Amusement Park.

I live in League City, TX, a town of about 35,000. It's located about 20 miles south of Houston and 20 miles north of Galveston on the Texas Gulf Coast.
The area around League City has been mainly used for cattle ranching over the years. League City was quite the sleepy little town with a railroad depot until the Johnson Space Center was built just up the road in Clear Lake in the 60s. Since then, the town is mostly people that work for NASA or in the oil and gas/petrochemical industry in Houston.
It's about a 20 minute drive to the beach on Galveston Island from my house. Not the greatest Texas beach, but not bad. Of course, there's major stuff to do in Houston, it's the 4th largest city in the U.S.
Fun topic, Cheryl!

Re: Your town
This is a good one since we just moved a couple weeks ago.
Where do you live? Monroe, WA
Is it a town / city or village? City of about 16,000
Where is it close to? We're about 35 miles Northeast of Seattle in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.
Tell us something about it - maybe it's history, major industries or useless facts, that sort of thing.
Monroe was originally known as Park Place, but when they applied to the US Postal Service for a post office and official name they were not accepting two word names. So they chose Monroe after President James Monroe. The valley is well known for its dairies and logging industries.
Do you have any tourist attractions in your town? We have the Evergreen State Fairgrounds where the stare fair is held every August. And we are home to Evergreen Speedway, where stock car racing is held every week in the summer. Oh, and there's a state prison in our town, but we don't like to advertise that too much!

Where do you live? High Ridge, MO
Is it a town / city or village? town
Where is it close to? St. Louis
Tell us something about it - maybe it's history, major industries or useless facts, that sort of thing. I really can't think of anything to say about High Ridge. When someone asks where we live, we usually just say St. Louis.
Do you have any tourist attractions in your town? Nope, but Six Flags over St. Louis is about 15 minutes away.

Where do you live? Gwinn, Michigan
Is it a town / city or village? We call it a town - although when we go into the city, we call it 'going to town'
Where is it close to? Nothing. Biggest major city is Green Bay, 3 hours south. OK, we are close to Lake Superior. You could see it from my bedroom window growing up.
Tell us something about it - maybe it's history, major industries or useless facts, that sort of thing. Major mining industries up here. Where I live used to be an air force base, until it closed in 1995. Now the housing it turned into reseidential housing - I live in old officer's housing.
Do you have any tourist attractions in your town? Suicide Hill - a ski jumping hill. Major awesome snowmobile trails.

I live in West Roxbury, Mass., it is actually a neighborhood of the city of Boston. When I write my address, I can either write West Roxbury or Boston, and it will get to me fine. Even though it is part of the city, I feel like I am in the suburbs where I grew up. We live on a quiet tree lined street. We have all the benefits of city community centers and city services while living in a suburban setting. It takes us about 10 - 15 minutes to get to Fenway Park or Downtown Boston depending on traffic. We are very close to the Arnold Arboretum which is a beautiful park full of flowers shrubs and trees. I love Lilac Sunday around Mother's Day when all the Lilacs are in bloom. I take my kids to the Franklin Park Zoo all the time. That's the zoo where the gorilla Little Joe escaped from twice! We enjoy all the Boston landmarks and sightseeing. We really don't take it for granted. For a useless fact: I just found out that I am related to a prominent founding family of the town. There is even a very old graveyard here in the center of town (like the one in Downtown Boston), where the family is buried!

Re: Your town
Where do you live?
Portland, ME
Is it a town / city or village?
Not sure if this applies in other states, but Maine will call any town with a population over 35,000 a city. Portland has 70,000 residents, Greater Portland has around 150,000.
Where is it close to?
Portland is a coastal town and on I95. We're 2 hours north of Boston.
Tell us something about it - maybe it's history, major industries or useless facts, that sort of thing.
Portland runs neck-in-neck with San Francisco for most restaurants per capita. We have a working waterfront. We have cruiseships coming in all summer and for autumn leaf-peeping. We have a section downtown called the Old Port which hosts families/tourists during the day and livens up at night with more 21+ish activity. Tourism and fishing/lobstering are big industries. We also seem to have A LOT of lawyers.
Do you have any tourist attractions in your town?
Lots of'm! Victoria Mansion, Scotia Prince, the Longfellow House, Portland Headlight, the Eastern Promenade, etc. Both DH and I are in love with Portland's history (Portland has a lot of history, but certainly not as much as Maidstone, Kent, UK). DH is what they call "from away" (anyone who lives in Maine but not born here...it's kind of a joke in Portland, but other parts of the state take this status very seriously!) I myself am a 6th-generation Portlander, and DARN PROUD of it! Thanks for the great question, Cheryl!

Where do you live?
I live on the outskirts of Memphis, in Cordova, TN
Is it a town / city or village?
City (It was recently annexed and is now part of the city of Memphis)
Where is it close to?
Memphis, TN
Tell us something about it - maybe it's history, major industries or useless facts, that sort of thing.
Memphis is the Birthplace of Rock-n-Roll, the Home of the Blues, and the BBQ Capital of the World. (Not to mention the home of my favorite NBA team - the up and coming Memphis Grizzlies!)
Do you have any tourist attractions in your town? Graceland (Elvis, of course), Beale Street, & Mud Island

Re: Your town
<font color="green">Where do you live? Well, my mailing address is Brookline Station, but I don't live in it. John says that technically we live in Greene County since we don't fall within any borders of any of the towns around. But for the sake of arguement, we live in Springfield, MO
Is it a town / city or village? You've got me See my previous answer!
Where is it close to? Well, I am like 5 minutes from Springfield, which is about 35 miles from Branson
Tell us something about it - maybe it's history, major industries or useless facts, that sort of thing. Well, we have part of the "Mother Road" Route 66 that goes through Springfield. Also, the Kewpie dolls were created by a lady that lived between here and Branson. And Laura Ingalls Wilder lived about 30 miles east of here.
Do you have any tourist attractions in your town? Oh let's see, we have the original Bass Pro Shop here, The Wonders of Wildlife Museum is right next door. Then Branson in and of itself is a tourist attraction with all the shows, Silver Dollar City, the lakes etc. I guess that about covers it...lol

I live in Bloomington,MN which is a suburb of Minneapolis. It is actually a city (the third largest in Minnesota) with a population of around 85,000 people. It is located less than ten miles from Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Bloomington is fairly young by UK standards having been first settled in 1843 by a missionary, Gideon Pond. Bloomington's current claim to fame is of course the largest shopping center in the U.S., the Mall of America with 525 stores, 50 restaurants, 7 nightclubs, a 14 screen movie theatre and the Camp Snoopy amusement park.
