An Island Frame of Mind (A Cam and Luke PTR) Updated 5/22 - Page 19 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I keep forgetting that their are food booths at F&GF. I will definitely have to tell my husband that. Maybe that will change his mind about going.
The food booths are really a great addition to the F&GF.

Luke will try almost anything, so if he does I'll take a sip.

I really like that Disney has added the food booths.

Great list! I just printed out the menus myself so we can review them
I can't wait to hear what you all really liked from the booths.

I've put many of the same F&GF goodies on my "must try" list. I'll be sampling them in 15 days, so I'll let you know what I think.
We have similar trips this year - a spring WDW F&GF trip (but mine will be much shorter) and a First Trip to Disneyland! We'll be there at the end of July and I'm so excited that I don't know what to do with myself.
Too bad one of our trips doesn't overlap. I think I'm still a bit in the I can't believe we are really going to DL phase. We have wanted to this for so long.
I can't wait to hear what you like about the food booths, too.

Thanks for worrying, Dave! I had a hard time sleeping last night because of back pain from over-doing packing. I'm moving next week. It's hard to stop going sometimes, even when you know you should! Thank goodness for PP in the middle of the night!
Sorry, Cam-- back to your report now. Don't do what I did with packing boxes at your Dad's house!
My Dad was complaining that his back hurt, which is part of the reason we came home last night rather than work again today. Take care!

Sounds like some yummy choices at F&GF booths!
My dad commented at one point that I had been in the same corner all day. It was the only one left, and it was layers deep, but I didn't get everything boxed.
Much luck with everything and I'll be certainly seeking out that Key Lime Wine after my excursion in Key West. One of the city tours with the Shipwreck Museum tour on our own. It's called Pirates and Presidents. I'm sure there will be time to take in plenty after this before heading back to the Magic. Just through my research to inform myself on Key West it seems to be an easy place to navigate without any worry! As Rick Steves has said about Venice (which you can compare this too), it's an island...so best to get lost within it....

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Hi Cam! I finally got all caught up with your PTR! You certainly have some great things planned for your trip and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Poly DVC Villas My DH and I did the tour of the Poly DVC's on our trip in January that they offered for DVC members and we thought they were beautiful. It was just the model rooms over at Saratoga Springs so it didn't have the great ambiance of actually staying at the Polynesian Village Resort!!! It's going to be a great time of year to visit WDW
Finally caught up again! Your food list is making me hungry
I'm glad that things are progressing with the cleaning and packing....it's such a tough thing. We forced my grandma to move to a condo after my step-grandfather died because the neighborhood she was living in wasn't very safe anymore. She wasn't ready to move though and ten years later still threatens to try to buy her old house back.

We received a map on board that was quite simple, but proved very helpful. We thought about doing that excursion; it does look interesting.

One of the most exciting aspects of WDW for us is the eating.

Every time I think about staying at the Poly, a resort I've liked from the beginning, I get sooooo excited.

I think my dad is ready, and maybe has been for a year or so. He has mentioned numerous times before he moved in with June that he just didn't feel he could or even wanted to keep up with the house. But on the other hand, he has also mentioned that the house so many memories of Mom, so I'm sure the day of the sale will be difficult.

I may have to find where I can buy this one, so I can have it at home, too.
I am just getting caught up but I am glad you started this. It means summer is right around the corner. I love SWW too, so I love reading about your experiences. After hearing Frank OZ is going to be there this year, my husband tried to get me to put off our November trip until next summer because who knows what celebrity will be there then. He didn't win that battle yet though.

Frank Oz is one celebrity I'd really like to meet, but unfortunately, he won't be there until the last SWW weekend. Yoda is my favorite SW character.
1. I might as well list them first or someone here may wonder what has happened to me – Giraffes. Of course, I’ll be hoping for a Stefanie giraffe sighting most of all.
2. The new baby white rhino who possibly will have just been introduced to the savanna. On the Disney Parks Blog a poll was posted for naming her, and the winning name was Kiama (my choice as it looks a little like Cam).
3. There are five baby sable antelopes that have been added to the savannah. They look so sweet in the Disney Park Blogs photos.
4. I’ll have to check up on my second favorite creatures, the gorillas, but especially Lily and her two baby brothers. I’m hoping more work has been completed on Pangani Forest Exploration Trail.
5. Further down the trail are several new baby/toddler meerkats that might be fun if they are up to some of their silly escapades like last October.
6. Possibly the first thing we’ll see will be the walls down around the Tree of Life which has grown some new roots, and that meets new animal carvings. I see some wandering photography in my future around Discovery Island.
7. Rumors are that Flame Tree Barbeque will be reopened prior to our arrival. My tummy sure hopes so.
8. I mentioned earlier in our day-by-day plans that we want to visit Rafiki’s Planet Watch as the new exhibit for Disney’s Conservation Fund is set up here.
9. My favorite live show is Festival of the Lion King, and the new theater is a great setting.
10. Really my whole reason for loving Animal Kingdom so much is the one thing that draws me back trip after trip – ANIMALS.
Yesterday, Luke and I traveled to Evansville, Indiana, for some shopping. I had been waiting for spring apparel to come out plus some deep discounts at Banana Republic Factory Outlet and Gap. With all my coupons safely stowed in my F&GF Dooney & Bourke crossbody bag, we set out just as our home weather radio announced that our county was in a tornado watch. The two counties we were headed into though were not included. Suddenly while stuck in traffic in Henderson, the warning sirens went off, and a weather alert came over the radio – severe thunderstorm warning. Thank goodness it was not a tornado warning. It seemed that the moment the announcement went off the rain came down in buckets. Not much to do when traffic is simply not moving. By the time we got to the first shop, we had to make a mad dash for the doors. About an hour or so later, the rain had stopped, but a cold front had come through and the temperature dropped. Brrrr! In the end, I purchased 5 new pairs of shorts and 6 new tops. Starting last spring, I’ve been trying to weed through my shorts as some were getting little old and worn. I think now I’m set for another 5 or so years. All but one of the shirts will be Disney bound in May. The one that won’t is a long sleeve workout top for chillier walks. We even had a delicious meal of pizza rolls and calzones at Old Chicago. By the time we headed home, the sun was out, making for a beautiful sunset in spite of the chilly temperature.
Because of the shopping and the fact that temperatures here are becoming more spring like as well as the fact that I’m just tired of winter clothes, I did the closet switch today, moving my spring/summer clothes from the scrapbook room closet to my walk-in closet. That means very soon I’ll be making my packing list because now I can see and remember what I actually own.
