TR: Thingamabobs, Zebra & Giraffes, Oh My! Completed 3/25/15 - Page 35 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Can't believe it is your last day already. Glad you were able to have a little fun at MK and you got your Mickey's Kitchen sink before heading home. I love the Photopass picture of the 3 of you waving goodbye.
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
Thanks! Yes, we fly into MCO around 9:15am on the 12th so definitely wave if you see us!!!
My arrival into Port Canaveral is booked for 11:30-12 pm. Not sure how far in advance you can check in for Disney transportation to PC, but I think getting there on Level B around 10 am or a bit before is what I plan to do. Sort of unclear as Disney didn't give me any info on how much prior to your arrival at PC you should check in at the DCL/ME transportation area. Perhaps, we may run into one another here!

Tutto looked good! The calamari and bread service sold me alone! I'm with you on the bread! That's why we have to get the bread service at Sanaa every time too!
What a great last day in the parks!! Love those last photos you got.

The main reason is because it's a 3-hour trip from our arrival airport (DFW) to our house. So, we don't like to get back too late unless we can stay the night in the DFW area. Might be something we consider.
But to be honest, if we're trying to decide between flying back a day earlier than we have to go to work, staying in the metroplex and then driving home the next day or spending another night at WDW and flying home around lunch the next day, then that's an easy decision for me. Give me another night at WDW anytime.
Thanks!! I love extra Disney time!

Lisa Co-Guide to Sharing the Adventure: Disney World Trip Reports
Let me take a minute to apologize again - I know I have been slacking a bit on posting in this TR. Between the craft room renovations, having a long dreaded cold/cough that won't go away, Scott and I began a program last week to try to lose some weight and I have given up diet coke......it's been 1 week, 1 day, and 6 hours.........(you may have just seen my post on FB), as you can probably tell from my TR's I am a diet coke ADDICT!!! This has been hard, but not as hard as I thought it would be, but seriously don't get me wrong - I crave it - and it's here in the house, it's at my office......but I have not had a single sip!!! And I have lost 9 lbs since last Weds! Between the program and the diet coke, I am sure that I can do this!!! :roll eyes:
Okay back to the final thoughts of our Trip:
Final Thoughts & Wrap Up:
Sigh…….as much I Love our vacations, especially Disney ones, I hate ending them just as much! But the good thing is we know we will ALWAYS have Disney! And this trip proved to us that no matter what happens, it will always be our happy place! I went into this trip with hesitation as I was afraid that we would be sad knowing that we would be in the same place on the first anniversary of my father in laws death as when we found out about his death. But for us, this brought us peace. We knew that he knew and understood (as best as he could) our love for Disney and the happiness that it brought to us, and that is where we needed to be. That first year of losing someone you love is always difficult for all, but it was especially difficult dealing with my mother in law with her mental health issues on top of losing her husband. And I knew that Scott just needed to get away to where he could relax and enjoy himself and have a break from taking care of her and her needs. That might sound harsh to some, but unless you have had to live with the responsibility of taking care of someone’s care, it is very difficult. But enough of the mopiness! This trip was FABULOUS!!!
We are always thrilled at the fact that no matter how many trips we have been on to DisneyWorld, there is always something new and exciting for us to explore! And this trip once again, gave us many new experiences!!!
New for us:
Flying United Airlines to Orlando: not our first choice by any means, but we had a credit, so we didn’t want to lose the money, so we flew one way – all I can say is glad we didn’t go round trip!
Art of Animation: since the build of this resort, both Emily and I have wanted to stay here! Mostly for the Nemo pool, but Emily is also a HUGE Ariel fan and loved the room there. It was a bit tight for 3 of us, but we made do! We hope to return there for a family suite someday!
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: the newest ride and a roller coaster = happy family! We were fortunate to be able to ride this ride many times during our visit!
Big Blue Pool: although it does not have a slide or a hot tub, being able to hear Nemo music while you are under water, seriously, how much more fun could it get? And the theming around the pool is brilliant!
Spice Road Table: we loved this – especially with a fellow PP’er! But seriously if you like Tapas, you must try this!
Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream film: we finally took the time to sit through the film, and we all really enjoyed it!
Jedi Training: okay, no, we didn’t participate, but our best friend’s child did and it was a lot of fun watching him enjoy this!
Taxi Cabs: we had never used taxis in Disney – think it will become a regular thing to get to those resort dining choices!
Festival of Fantasy Parade: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this new parade!!!! The costumes are amazing, and the fire breathing dragon!!! Seriously!!!
Sunrise Safari: another amazing experience. Bummer that they have discontinued this, but so thrilled that we were able to experience it.
Painting Ceramics: we don’t take enough time to just enjoy the activities in the Community Hall (DVC) unless they are the games by the poolside. This was a great rainy day activity and reasonably priced!
Flying Fish: another great dining choice – I finally got my family to try it based on all the great reviews here on Passporter! We had great service and really enjoyed the food!
Frozen Activities: we enjoyed all these activities (the parade, the sing a long and the fireworks) but it was a bit crazy with it just opening that week, and the park really is not big enough to handle that size of crowds. Hopefully if they continue this, they have learned better ways of managing it.
Bongos: we rarely eat table service in DTD, but we are trying really hard to experience new places to try. This did not disappoint, but we would have enjoyed it more without construction walls being our view.
Otters: somehow we have always missed seeing the otters at Animal Kingdom, but again, thanks to all of you here on PP, I knew they existed so we sought them out!
Lion King Theater: although we have seen this show many times, it was nice to see the new theater and hope they do add a bit more to the area in the future!
Tutto Italia: another first for us, as it was fairly new since our last visit – we really enjoy Italian food, and this was delicious!
Talking Mickey: really, do I need to add anything here???
Food & Beverage Items: (I am only listing new items for me, and not every one, we would be here all day!)
Super Fruit Tequini
Island Moon Shine
Sultans Colada
Mickey shaped Peanut Butter cookie dipped in chocolate!
Dole Whip with Rum!
Friar’s Nook Mac ‘n Cheese
Leapin’ Leprechaun
Pineapple Margarita
Orange Mango Margarita
Mango Gingerita
Carrot Cake Cookie
Mickey Sink Sundae
Grand Totals of it all:
12 nights/13 days at Disney!
2 Resorts!
Miles: 187.04
Total Spent on Food & Beverage (including tips and snacks) = $2541.03
Total Spent on Souvenirs, Activities, Tours, etc. = $2204.93
Garden Grocer Order (including tip) = $219.14
Total Tables in Wonderland Discount = $293.73
Total Annual Pass Discount = $85.93
Total 20% CS Coupon Discount = $228.32
Total DVC Discount = $18.92
Total Chase Visa Discount = $10.80
Total “other” Discount = $18.00
Grand Total of Discounts = $655.70
Savings before trip:
Purchased $650 Disney Gift Cards with Target Red Card resulting in savings of $32.50
Visa Gift Card (for switching cable companies) = $300.00
Capital One Visa Rewards = $150.00
Disney Chase Visa Rewards = $145.77
Loose Change Saved = $327.00
If we had had the dining plan, our meals along would have been $2183.04 for 12 nights.
So yes, we did spend a lot! Especially on souvenirs, etc. BUT for Food and Beverage, we averaged $195.46 per day for all 3 of us.
And our TIW card will still be good for our next trip, so that will be ALL Savings!!!
Speaking of next trip ~ I will be soon starting a PTR for our trip next month!!! We will be spending a week in April at SSR!!!
OH - and I almost forgot - here are a few pics of just a few items that we purchased:
And here are the crazy pups (this was taken a few days ago!) They are now almost 11 months (Lilly) and 10 months (Maggie)!
And here they are in the pug party at Doggie Day Care today!!! (they are near the front!!! And yes, there is a little tiny pup next to Maggie!)
See Ya Real Soon!

Great wrap up to your amazing trip as I enjoyed it so much! Loved all the stats, but I'm sure you don't....once the bills start coming in! Loved the photos and your writing coverage of such a great trip! Looking forward to your upcoming TR on the horizon. Hope we meet up at MCO on our airline arrivals (you) and my departure on DCL on the same day. There are not many photos of me here, (check out my France TR). Than you know who to look for and another CT resident!

Great wrap-up to a really fun report! You had quite a list of new things on this trip. It gets to be a real challenge, fitting in the old favorites and new ones, too.
Good luck with the diet coke challenge! I guess I'm lucky that I never developed a taste for soft drinks. Have you been getting headaches from the caffeine withdrawal?
Awesome ending to an awesome trip!!. I love your purchases! I have that giraffe bowl in my family room. Mine also holds my remotes and makes me smile every time I look at it!!. Good luck with losing weight! You can do it!!
Great finish Lisa! Thanks for breaking it all down for us! Love all your purchases! Good luck with the Diet Coke! I gave up soda 3 years ago and don't miss it at all!
Great finish! I enjoy reading your TRs.
Good luck on the weight loss!
Thank you!
