An Island Frame of Mind (A Cam and Luke PTR) Updated 5/22 - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
The three day itinerary looks great. Having a few slow days sounds relaxing. My DH and I figured by slowing our pace, we saw parts of Disney Parks we never knew existed.

If there are snags, we'll just go with it.

A slower pace really does allow us to see things we used to miss in our hurry from one attraction to another.
Our plans today have us at Disney's Animal Kingdom for a slightly earlier start. Our FastPass+ selections this day are:
DINOSAUR 9:15 AM - 10:15 AM (One of Luke’s favorites, so we’ll get the herky-jerky over with early. )
Kilimanjaro Safaris 10:40 AM - 11:40 AM (I had hoped to have this one first thing in the day, but it wouldn’t work out no matter what we did to tweak it. We’ll probably try to get here right at the start of our FP+ time. So I’m hopeful we’ll still see some good animal activity.)
Festival of the Lion King 12:30 PM - 12:50 PM (This is my favorite live show at WDW, so I’m always excited for it. the new theater and the theming in this area. There is even a very nice new restroom back there.)
Luke recently read on Orland Theme Park News that an updated Disney Conservation Fund exhibit will be at Rafiki’s Planet Watch beginning in April. The Disney Conservation Fund is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and to commemorate that they are changing their name, dropping the word “Worldwide,” which had itself replaced “Wildlife.” DCF will have a new logo.
We haven’t been back to Rafiki’s Planet Watch in quite a few trips, but we’ll definitely head back to check out this exhibit. There will eventually be new buttons, but the old ones will still be available until the transition is complete. To read more about this new exhibit check out this article that Luke read. Orlando Theme Park News: Conservation Fund Exhibit Coming to Rafiki's Planet Watch
After a full day at DAK, we’ll travel the short distance to Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas - Kidani Village for dinner at our favorite restaurant ever -- Sanaa – at 7:00 PM. Every time I think about it I get hungry for Naan and Red Bell Pepper Humus or Coriander Chutney, Butter Chicken, Slow Roasted Beef, and Basmati Rice.
Thursday, May 14
Today will be our second time at Epcot, so we made our FastPass+ selections to try some different attractions. We also decided to start this day later since yesterday was an early morning day. We picked the following:
Meet Disney Pals at the Epcot Character Spot 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM (This is one of my favorite meet and greets as in one line you can cover usually four characters. Besides that the wait is mainly indoors in the A/C.)
The Seas with Nemo & Friends® 1:40 PM - 2:40 PM (More than likely, we won’t really need this FP+, but with the tiered system at this park, something needs to be picked.)
Soarin'® 2:50 PM - 3:50 PM (We’re still a little bummed that you can’t get a FP+ for this one and Test Track at the same time. I’m also excited that this one is getting an expansion plus new projection. Definitely time! We’ll be visiting Disneyland in October, and will get to experience the refurb there.)
During times between these three attractions and afterwards, we’ll once again be covering the Flower & Garden Festival gardens and lunch may be at one of the booths. Whatever we haven’t covered according to my F&GF PassPorter will be our first priorities.
Eventually, we’ll have dinner at La Hacienda de San Angel at 6:30 PM. Whether we stay for Illuminations or not will depend on how our plans worked out on Monday. I sort of suspect that this may be the night we watch it since we’ll probably be more rested with the late start.
Friday, May 15
Friday has us headed to Disney's Hollywood Studios to experience opening day of Star Wars Weekends. The park today opens at 8:00 and we plan to get there fairly close to that. Our FastPass+ are as follows:
Star Tours® – The Adventures Continue 8:45 AM - 9:45 AM (You can’t got to SWW and not ride ST. We both think that we get better rides at this time with places we aren’t used to visiting.)
Toy Story Midway Mania! 10:20 AM - 11:20 AM (This will be the first of my favorite rides. We used to fail at getting FP+ for this one as we typically arrived at the park to late and the passes had run out. So for this ride alone, I love FP+. Now we usually get to ride it at least twice each trip. )
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM (My other favorite ride)
At some point in the day we will join a very long line in order to shop in Darth’s Mall. We might go a bit crazy in here, but I can promise you that we are small-time spenders compared to many, many people who are shopping in there with actual carts. I only grade a hand basket. Luke has seen somewhere, maybe the Dis boards, that Dooney & Bourke has SWW bags this year. Now that is something I’d definitely be interested in.
We got very lucky and booked the Jedi Mickey's Star Wars Dine at Hollywood and Vine with the Fantasmic 1st Show at 5:40 PM. Along with seeing Fantasmic this night, we hope to stay late enough for the SWW fireworks, which we failed to make last May. This will be our longest park day, but maybe we can find a way to rest a little within the park itself.
More great plans! Sanaa....I could eat the bread service every day.
Do you think the park will open even earlier than 8 on SWW? I thought we got in before then a few years ago. I'm surprised they've waited this long on the D&B SW bags. I'm interested to see what they look like.
Registered Message Board Members save 30% off PassPorter guidebooks! When you register you'll have access to a discount coupon good for 30% off the list price of PassPorter books in our online store.
I wonder if I'll ever get to eat at Sanaa. My family is not adventurous at all, when it comes to eating.
I have the same question....my husband doesn't like "adventurous eating" and the younger two especially are scared of "different" foods.
Cam, your plans sound great so far!

More great plans Cam! Those will be some long days in the parks and hope you will be well rested for them! Glad you will be dining at two of my favorites with Sanaa and La Hacienda!
