TR: Thingamabobs, Zebra & Giraffes, Oh My! Completed 3/25/15 - Page 27 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Looks like another fun day! How cool that Emily & Olaf made it into the show
I know you may talk about this later in your TR, BUT how was it going back to AKL for a break/swimming? We are considering staying there when we go in the fall 2016, but since it is farther away from the action so to speak I am concerned about travel times. We did breaks when we stayed last time at POR & my girls loved the time at the pool.
DTD is kind of an eye sore, with all the construction walls. And the walkways are always so congested, especially at night. I know it'll come out looking beautiful but can they hurry up already.
Glad you enjoyed your meal at Bongo's! I've never eaten there, after all it's food that I can easily prepare at home as Cuban cuisine is very similar to Puerto Rican cuisine.

What a fun evening. I was just thinking how cute Emily was in the photo with Olaf and her frozen drink, then she shows up on the Big Screen! She is very photogenic.
Haven't tried Bongo's, but that reminds me we need to have some Cuban food - there are many good restaurants in South Florida.
How great that Emily was part of the Frozen show! Also great that you were quick with the camera trigger.
Thanks! Always have that camera ready

I've never ate at Bongos, but stopped there for a drink a few years ago. For Hispanic type food Paradiso 37 is very good across from Raglan Road and is quite reasonably priced as I dined there back in April!
Thanks! Paradiso is on our list for future visits!

Thanks! Sorry you had a bad experience there, it did seem really loud inside the restaurant and I am not sure that we would have enjoyed it as much inside.

Thanks! The buses were really touch and go, sometimes we hardly waited at all, other times it felt like forever, I honestly do not remember what our longest wait was - so it must not have been too bad if I didn't make note of it . The furthest park from AKL is MK - and I would say it could honestly take you 45 minutes each way to get there?

Lisa Co-Guide to Sharing the Adventure: Disney World Trip Reports
This morning we were up early and after getting ready we headed to Epcot.
We entered the park with just about no one around!!! It is so nice to be able to walk through and take photos of a nearly empty park!!
We headed straight for Norway, as we had breakfast at Akershus this morning.
We checked in and were visiting with Belle pretty quickly!
Then we were brought to our table – and the chef came out of course to discuss what I could and could not have on the cold buffet with my berry allergy. We each made a small plate of fruit, cheese, and Danish.
Then our platter came – I love this breakfast!!! I love the potatoes!!! I could just eat those and be happy!!!
We were visited by Snow White:
Then Cinderella:
Ariel:
And finally Aurora:
I miss the days of Emily being little and parading around with all the other little girls following the Princesses throughout the restaurant. Sigh……… But they did manage to embarrass her a little by bringing out a lovely birthday cupcake!!!
After breakfast our first fastpass was ripe for Test Track, so headed over there.
Emily designed another truck.
Of course I take photos on the ride!!! Holding onto the camera for dear life!!!
Our next Fastpass was for Mission Space and we were able to head right over there next ~ and while waiting to enter Mission Space, we had decided we wanted to change our 3rd fastpass. We were originally scheduled for Journey into Imagination with Figment, but we had already been able to ride that, so we wanted to get Character Spot – and we were able to get that!
We had a bit of time before our Character spot fastpass was due, and we had another one of those 20% coupons if you used it before 1:00pm, and I still had some gift cards to use up – and who couldn’t use some serious retail therapy when you are saving 20%???
So we once again entered Mouse Gears (have I mentioned how much I love this store???) where I proceeded to purchase my Disney Vera Weekender bag, along with a matching wristlet (both in the midnight print), I also got our 2014 ornament, some more pins and vinylmations, some new umbrellas (to leave in our owners locker), another Alex and Ani, and lots of gifts for friends/family – tees, beach towels, etc.
After our shopping spree we were in need of some beverages – I went to get a diet coke – and Emily went to Starbucks to get a Caramel Frappuccino.
While we were sitting and enjoying our beverages, Scott pulled a box out of his pocket – it was a necklace I had been eying – he found it while I was shopping and surprised me with it!
It was now time for our Character Spot fastpass, so we entered and met Mickey, Goofy & Minnie!
Next we decided to wander through World Showcase in search of more characters!
Our first stop was just inside World Showcase to visit with Duffy!
Next we saw Mulan hanging out in China, so we stopped to visit with her!
And of course, I had to check another AB off my list – a Mango Gingerita. It was good – but a bit too sweet for me. I like my margaritas tart!
We continued walking through World Showcase, just wandering around, unfortunately I think we were a bit early for the characters to be out – or it was too hot – but usually they do not come out until after 1 around WS, and it was just after noon at this point.
In Morocco we ventured back to the area where Aladdin and Jasmine are usually visiting – and they were due out any minute – so we got in line – Emily was excited about this as she was wearing another very artsy top from Hot Topic featuring Aladdin and Jasmine – so she wanted to see if they noticed!
A few neat little touches along the que!
Soon, Aladdin and Jasmine were out and of course, Aladdin noticed Em’s shirt immediately!!! :the wave: And of course, they both loved it!
After our fun interaction, we continued on, and guess where Em wanted to stop next? France! Of course she couldn’t walk past there without getting another one of those Ice cream crepes!
We were ready for a break now, so we headed back to the resort in hopes of some pool time!
Up Next: Will it ever stop raining??

What a great day at Epcot! We are trying Akershus for the first time ever this trip and I am really excited about it it! You guys had plenty of great character interaction today as well as great shopping! . How fun! Scott on that necklace!
We ate at Bongo's last May and really like it, too. The Frozen fireworks look neat. Nice start to your day at Epcot as it looks so quiet before your breakfast.
The early-morning breakfast at any park are so worth it just for the walk through an empty park to get there. Love it! A great time seeking out characters. Especially love the Jasmine, Aladdin, Emily photos.
