One if By Land - TR by Coop/ChukkerB - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

You're killing me with that photo of the brioche ice cream sandwich. I loved that! So sorry you're coughing like crazy. That'll tire you out without getting out of bed. Hope another good night's sleep helps you out.
Thanks Laurie. I started feeling better then had a little relapse. All better now though. That brioche sandwich was wonderful!

Thanks! I had something, that's for sure!

Loved the Scotch!

Hahaha. The pictures do make you hungry though - just recalling and looking at them sometimes has me craving!

Hi everyone! I'm back! So what happened was I had that rib injury on New Years Eve and continued to work through the weekend. Well, I finally did get in to see my MD the following Tues. I told them I was having chest/rib pain. And they proceeded to treat me like an idiot. I AM an RN with 25 years Cardiac/ER experience but I guess that doesn't count. I know they were just going through their protocol but. . .so it went like this.
Me: I'm having chest pain/rib pain on the left side. I did have an injury at work on New Years Eve but didn't really feel any discomfort until the next day. Are you going to do an EKG? I'm just a mess.
MD: I'll say! You've gained 25lbs since I've seen you last. You are now eligible for bariatric surgery. I want to check your A1C and blood work and I'll send you to a nutritionist because I think you may be diabetic.
Me: I'm not going to a nutritionist AGAIN. I've seen them and they push carbs. Like 27g of carbs and only 4g of Protein. It's just wrong. What about my chest?
MD: Well that doesn't seem right.
Me: I know.
MD: I'll give you a referral for the nutritionist and we will draw some blood.
Me: (rolling my eyes). I'm not going to her. What about my chest pain?
MD: Did you take anything?
Me: Yes - I was taking my sciatic pain medications (Tylenol #3 and Skelaxin).
MD: Did that help?
Me; It allowed me to sleep. But I can't take that and work.
MD: No you can't work like this
Me: Well, I have to go back tomorrow.
MD: No. You need a week off. Do you need a refill on those medications?
Me: Yes.
So he left and gave me 2 prescriptions, an order for blood work, a work note and a referral to a dietician. No EKG. No X-ray. Just a lecture to a fat lady about being fat. GRRRRR!
So now I'm looking for a new MD.
Then just as I was recovering from my injury, I had (what I think) a Gallbladder attack. I was having chest pain/pressure and epigastric (stomach) pain. It happened after eating some McDonald's. I ate it on Friday and all day Sat had the pain. By Sunday morning, I couldn't stand it anymore and had Chuck take me to the ER. There they did an EKG, Xray, Ultrasound and bloodwork. Everything was normal (except my blood sugar was a tad high and I told the MD that my doctor thinks I may be diabetic) So after all the tests and some meds, I got to go home. Just ordered to follow up with my MD. (Uuuummmm - I don't think so. Not until I find a new one, thanks)
So now - no more chest pains. No more rib pains. Yes probably a tad sweet (diabetic) but gonna work on the weight and that should help correct it.
Now we are in the middle of winter. Just had a huge storm last week. And Chuck had opening night of "The Odd Couple" last night. He was GREAT! (I may be biased but he really was!) The only problem/hiccup was that he had a little stumble during a "chase" scene and really scraped up his knee. I think he probably bruised the bone a bit. He will be ok though. I told him that "break a leg" was just an expression. He also went on a audition for the spring musical "The Music Man" and got the part of Mayor Shinn! I told him that I plan to cry throughout this production because it was the last play my father was in. I just know he's going to knock it out of the park! I'm excited to see it!
I have to take Tilley in to the vet sometime in the next week because she has a rash/abrasion type thing on the right side of her face around her whiskers. I'm wondering if it's a folliculitis. Maybe it's just out of sympathy for me losing my hair. LOL. Although, I'm starting to get some back now! I'm just losing it around the edges now. I still have to make an appointment with a new dermatologist.
So basically that's it. Just life getting in the way. Injury/Illness, Vet, MD's, auditions, snow storms, car repairs (oh yeah - I need to take my car in for a tune up and brakes), play, family birthdays (we are planning a surprise 80th for my DMIL) not to mention work.
Now I am ready to get back to this TR! Thanks for sticking around!
It was another SLOW am. I still had a cough which seemed to be worse at night. We were up around 9 or 9:30 and headed out to DTD for breakfast. We had never had EOS for breakfast so we ended up at EOS. We did check out WGP Express and found out they had a breakfast as well. Maybe next time. Then we did a bit of shopping and hit Ghirardellis before heading back to the resort for afternoon swimming and hot tub.
Then we got into costume to head over to the MNSSHP.
This was at the end of the night and was the only pic I got of the both of us. I asked someone to take it before we headed out to the bus.
We had a dinner reservation for 5:30 at BOG. Found the check in process for this was a bit confusing. When we went to the podium there was nobody there so we went over the bridge to the door and they sent us back up to the podium. I thought a few things odd about BOG. Like why do they have you carry Lumiere to the table only to take it back? We also thought the food was just so-so. But I was taking pics all over the place because it is a very impressive venue. We sat in the main Ballroom but after dinner we did tour the other rooms.
We both had the French Onion soup for starters. Then I had the steak with pomme frites and Chuck had the shrimp and scallops in puff pastry. He ended with a chocolate cupcake which I believe was a better choice than the grey stuff which is what I had. The brownie underneath was hard as a rock and nearly inedible. Like I said, we thought this was just meh and over rated. I've had better food elsewhere. But at least now we can say we ate there - once. And we probably will never again.
More pics after dinner
We got in line to meet our host - The Beast. But when we got to the front of the line, he was going to go in and take a break. We told the handler that we didn't want our pics taken WITH him - just a pic OF him. So they obliged.
After dinner, we went off to enjoy the party. We got quite a few comments on our togas. Mainly people yelling "toga! Toga! Toga!" But a couple people asked to take our picture! And as we thought - we did not see any other toga or roman costumes at all! We rode BTMRR at night (that was on my bucket list!) as well as riding Small World (Chuck's request). We got to see (some of) the parade. We were not in the best spot. Then when we walked through Pecos Bill's, I stepped on a ketchup packet that exploded all over my foot! Ewwww!
We made our way over toward the hub for the fireworks and got a pretty great spot. However, there was a guy in front of us that put his kid up on his shoulders and blocked everyone's view. The people behind us started yelling at him and I was pretty sure we were going to be in the center of a war because the guy kept ignoring everyone's protests. The girl behind us finally walked up to him and asked him to hold his kid at shoulder level so the rest of us could enjoy the view as well. And he did! Wow - crisis averted with some civility!
I didn't get too many (decent) fireworks pics. I was just kind of enjoying the evening. We didn't stay for the second parade or fireworks as we were getting tired. We ended up working our way out of the park and got on a bus for home. We had drinks and checked out the savannah. The giraffes had a habit of laying down right outside our room at night. Then time for a shower and hit the hay.
Glad you are feeling better, and Chuck's play is going well. Sounds like you could use a string of better luck! Hope Tilley has something easily resolved.
I am so glad you are feeling better. Congrats to Chuck on a great opening night, minus the attempt literally to break a leg. We have eat at least 3 times now at BOG and the check in process has been different every single time, so I think Disney is still working on making this one efficient. BTMMR is so cool at night!
I'm glad you're feeling better, but what a run of bad luck you've had.
Great photos from the Party. Sorry you didn't enjoy Be Our Guest more. One thing I am noticing from various reviews is that no-one raves about the grey stuff, which is interesting. Neither of us tried it last time, as it just didn't appeal and I doubt we'll try it this trip either....

First of all, good luck finding a better doctor. That one sounds like he needs a remedial course in interviewing patients. I'd have been boiling. He didn't listen at all to what you were saying. I can't imagine going into a doctor's office complaining of chest pain and they don't even do an EKG just to rule things out! Needs an attitude adjustment badly. At least you're feeling somewhat better, which is the important thing! Congrats to Chuck on his performance in The Odd Couple and his new role in Music Man!
You both look great in your togas. I don't remember any of that entrance nonsense about returning to the bridge or Lumiere at BOG.... it sounds pretty silly!
Glad to hear you are feeling better. And hopefully Chuck didn't get too hurt when he fell. But as a COP a Line of Duty Injury does qualify for tax free while out sick.
Your impression of BOG is like ours but did hear they changed chef so we may give it another try some time. Great costumes for MNSSHP
Oh my goodness, you've really been through the ringer! Glad you're feeling better but please follow up on that blood sugar and find yourself a new doctor.
Sorry about BoG.We didn't have to carry Lumiere when we went and I actually enjoyed the gray stuff but we didn't have the brownie and at lunch we had the chocolate cupcake stuffed with it.
Great pictures from the party. Loved the costumes! Sorry you weren't impressed with BoG.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better and Chuck had a great opening night. finding a new doctor. He sounds like the nurses who use to work at my college health center. You could go in there with a broken leg and they would tell you that you had an upper respiratory infection! It was always a struggle to get them to treat you for what you were actually there for!
Sorry about such a PITA md . But having had gallstones, I have to wonder if you do with that type of pain. When I had the attack that sent me to the hospital, Scott thought I was having a heart attack that it's not.
Bummer BoG didn't live up yo it's hype for you. We have never had a Lemiere with us at seating
Your costumes looked great!!!
