One if By Land - TR by Coop/ChukkerB - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm enjoying reading about your trip but sorry about the few bumps and now not feeling well. At Kidani you rent the DVDs from the gift shop - that's where we got them in October. I've made notes about the I-75 book and sushi at Splitsville.
It's funny now that I look back on it. The bad feelings were mostly from CM who were not really "into" doing their best job. What that is, I don't really know. I do know that when I'm not doing my personal best at my job, there seems to be a "funk" in the air. Examples of the things we encountered: Room service tray in the hallway at Kidani for about 20 HOURS!, Being yelled at when getting off the bus at DTD, constantly, practically every time we went Downtown. The entrances to some of the rides where usually you'd see three, four or even five CM working there, there was one. FP, and standby lines were confusing trying to use the Magic Bands and what not.
I realize I'm nit-picking, and a couple months later I realize it was me. I should NOT have anticipated so MUCH magic. In the past I wasn't expecting it, and it came like like a summer storm, This time I may have did too much of a rain dance and got tumbleweeds. I have to realize that WDW is in a constant state of change and motion.
In Acting we say that every performance is "Opening Night" for the audience. It's a give and take sometimes between what the audience expects,or demands, and what the performer is willing,or able to deliver. I need to keep that in mind for our next trip, and realize that sometimes the best days Coop and I have are the days when nothing is planned, and we're "winging" it.

Whatever the cause of the funk, I'm sorry for it! It's really too bad many of the CMs were also not feeling the magic of their jobs. That has got to rub off on you eventually. I know it was the attitudes of the CMs that got me hooked on Disney in the first place and if that were to change too much I'm not sure I could maintain the feeling of being in the bubble by myself.
I have to agree that Luke and I have the best time when we don't expect the magic, but just go with the flow. Hope the funk lifts. Just a side story: when I first met Luke, he was always introducing me to new music. One of the songs was "Make My Funk the P. Funk," by Parliament. Whenever I'm in a funk some of the lyrics to that song come back to me.
My DH and I have encountered a few CM's on recent trips that didn't bring the "Magic" to their job on a particular day. We usually comment to each other when a CM doesn't have the Magic and that Walt wouldn't like that. WDW is a stage and the CM's are playing their part which is all part of the ambiance that makes Disney so special. For the most part, CM's do provide the Guests with that special something that makes Disney stand apart from other Theme Parks.
I work with a former CM. We talked one day about why the moral in our Hospital is so low. I began to tell her about WDW. She laughed and told me she was a CM before. She didn't go into much, but she did tell me that they(CM's) KNOW that the "Magic" attitude is expected of them every time they are out in the public "On stage" . She also told me that the CM's complain WAY MORE than anyone when not on-stage. We both laughed at that.

We haven't seen LMA in a few trips. It used to be a must do for Luke. Nice finish to the night with Spectromagic and Wishes, but bummer that food spots weren't working out.
Yeah - we didn't plan our dinner very well! Definitely need picture proof next time!

We should've just asked, I guess, Cheryl.

I know, right?! She looked about as stunned as I was. We were like "aren't you Tracy???" But Chuck was so upset about the lack of Mickey Bars and we just wanted to get out of there so I'm afraid we weren't too social.

You aren't really turned off. You are just kind of let down. I know. It happens.

Thanks Mike! It's kind of let down. There were some issues where DIsney did drop the ball. But I think it's the change of things that were very bothersome.

I'm sure we can Linda. It wasn't a complete loss. I think just a big let down over past trips.

We've never been to Ray's. I think we passed on Casey's because of lines. It was just our timing was off.

We LOVE the Along I-75 book! It's such a help when going through big cities (which lane to be in to avoid "exit only" or merging traffic) and it gives good info on what's available at each exit (gas, food, lodging). It also gives you a bit of information and history about the area. And yes - you need to try the Sushi at Splitsville. And the burgers! And fries, and margaritas, and. . .and. . .

You were just letting your "Detroit" show sometimes. There was nothing I could do.

Thanks Laurie. I'm sure the CM's are feeling some uproar with all the new plans and construction as well.

I had to look up this song! LOL! I was trying to go with the flow - Chuck had his "Detroit" attitude up.

Chuck is used to "the stage" and I think that's partly why it bothered him to see people not "performing" well.

We all complain about our jobs. I imagine that CM's have some whopper stories!

Hi all! I haven't been ignoring this on purpose. I really have been busy with work and the Holidays. Then on New Year's Eve, while at work, I injured myself. I pulled my latissimus dorsi (muscle under my breast) on my left side. So I've been trying to convince myself that it ISN'T a heart attack and trying to find a position that is comfortable even though any movement is painful (including breathing) and STILL working 12 hour shifts (4 in the last 5 days). I come home and take meds for pain and muscle relaxer and then ended up crying in bed because I couldn't move. Chuck is wonderful but I'm sure he feels helpless. Just as I felt when he broke his ribs. I'm trying to get in to see my MD but can't get an appointment. But I realize that they probably won't do anything different than I'm already doing anyway (except maybe make me take some time off work) So, with that all being said, I'm going to try to get another day's post up here soon. I know there's no "time limit" but I really like to get this done. I'm just asking you all to bear with me. I don't mean to sound like a pity party. But Thanks all so much!
Ouch! I've had Costochondritis, which sounds similar. So painful, and you can't even breathe without moving that area. We're not going anywhere. Take care of yourself! I don't think anything will make the pain stop except time and rest.
