Feature Article: Disney's Sinister Soiree - A Delightfully Evil Treat - A Walt Disney World Event Review - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Disney's Sinister Soiree - A Delightfully Evil Treat - A Walt Disney World Event Review by Pamela Greeson
During October my husband and I spent a week at Walt Disney World and enjoyed the magic of Micke's Not So Scary Halloween Party.
As we had attended these before, we decided to try something new and added the Villain's Sinister Soiree Dessert Party to our night. What a treat, with no tricks! We had what we thought were early dinner reservations at Tutto Italia at Epcot for 4:30 pm, and arrived at the Magic Kingdom at 6:00 pm. When we picked up our wrist bands for the Halloween party we asked the cast member where we checked infor the Sinister Soiree, as the information shared before we arrived was kind of vague. We were told to head to Guest Services. While in line there, a cast member came down the line asking each guest why they were there. When we told her we were checking in for the Soiree, she advised this was the wrong line and directed us to a check in spot near the castle. We headed that way, after stopping in Main Street Emporium to pick up some Halloween pins! At the castle there were still no signs visible, so we found another cast member to ask and got the right directions! The check in station was set up in the center of the Hub, with a very small sign that was easy to miss.
Once we found this, everything was smooth sailing! We were given lanyards to show we were part of the soiree and a packet of information. The entire center of the Hub was roped off just for the soiree guests, and so we had plenty of time and space to find great viewing spots for the events to come. There were cast members posted all around the ropes to keep those not part of the soiree out of the viewing area. That gave us lots of space, but did provide some disappointment to other guests looking for a spot to watch the events.
We settled on the right side so we could see the Boo-to-You! Parade coming at us and starting to make it's way around the circle. We had wonderful views of all the characters! Next came Celebrate the Magic, as the castle came alive with moving pictures from some of the great Disney stories. Then our time there ended with the HalloWishes fireworks, and what a wonderful spectacle it was as the villains took over the castle! We had a little time before our date to meet the villains, so we enjoyed a walk through the Magic Kingdom. The line for Haunted Mansion was too long, so we just enjoyed the magic and all the wonderful costumes the guests had created.
Finally our time arrived and we went to Cinderella's Royal Table for our final check in. We were directed up the stairs and into the hall to begin the soiree's main event. We were greeted by our wonderful waiter, and our table was already filled with goodies. A dragon goblet waited for each of us filled with candy. Next to it was another glass with our beverage for the evening, a wonderful sour apple punch. The bright green drink had just a bit of bite, and sported a poisoned apple lite up cube and a Maleficent lite up dragon stirrer!
On the table was a plate filled with savories, from dungeon-aged blue cheese with honeycomb and Meyer lemon, to black diamond cheese fondue, and aged salami. As my husband is not a huge sweets person this was a delight to him, and he thoroughly enjoyed everything! I sampled it all too, and had to agree it was all a wonderful treat!
We had some time to enjoy these savories while more guests arrived, then Lady Tremaine and her villainous friends made a grand entrance to get the party started! She was a gracious hostess, who encouraged us to enjoy her hospitality while she was in charge of the castle!
Next came the mingle as each of our host's villainous guests, and the lady herself, kindly visited with each table. They were in full character and enjoying their haunted night, and made sure each table did as well. The only small issue was that they did not have a cast member on hand to take photos, so my husband and I had to switch off, though the evil ladies mostly wanted their picture with him!
After mingling for a while, the dessert arrived and it was worth the wait! Each plate had four fabulous desserts that were cleverly themed to each of the sponsoring villains. The Queen shared a surprising Bleeding Heart Apple that lived up to its name when you cut in to it! Maleficent shared a delightful Dragon-toasted Confection of pistachio mousse that was as light as it was delicious. Next was Dr. Facilier's Chocolate Tarot Card of pecan praline paired with a flourless chocolate torte. Finally was Cruella De Vil's Spotted Chocolate Mousse Cake, with a hint of raspberry and very tiny puppy paw prints.
The villains shared a surprising and wonderfully funny song with us while we started in on the fabulous desserts, and then it was back to mingling and enjoying. We could have seconds or even thirds of any of the foods, from the punch to the savories, so we really enjoyed ourselves. But sadly all good things must come to an end, and so we were given a doggie bag for our leftovers, kindly provided by Cruella, though they were quick to point out no dogs had been harmed in the making of the bags!
Lady Tremaine took to the center stage again and told us all she was delighted to have such wonderfully evil guests, but to Get Out! So we departed the soiree with a smile and maybe an evil laugh or two.
This was definitely a wonderful addition to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and something we both agreed we would enjoy again. It was a sinister evening filled with fun and delightful treats!
