The Many Adventures of the Ayers’ Family - Oct 2014 TR - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Worst start to a trip ever. I feel for you. Sorry this happened and that you were made to feel as if it were your fault. I must say, the CM were beyond helpful. How great that they were able to spread a little magic. But I don't know, the next update doesn't sound too promising.

You know, I am really a go with the flow type of person. I try not to let too many things get to me, but what happened was beyond anything that I would have been able to "let go". I was really hurt and what happened the next day completely just shocked me and really just made me regret the entire trip.
Stay tuned

OMG what a start to your trip. But as scared as I was for your last update it sounds like the next one is worse. I am glad to hear it does get better. I love for everyone to have Disney Adventures, but this is to the extreme!
What an un-magical start to your trip. Sorry things are not going well & sound like they are about to get worse
Yes, very un-magical but it gets worse and then better. I will have another update posted soon.

Things end up turning around, but not before they become worse. I'll have an updated posted soon....hopefully.

I am so sorry that your trip got off to such a horrible start. I'm glad you were able to still have a bit of fun at MNSSHP. But I'm afraid of your next update.
Note: I don’t have many pictures from this morning as I was extremely frustrated and annoyed so just didn't care to take pictures.
Day 2 – DHS & 50’s PTC
Today’s date was October 20th. We woke up pretty early today considering the day before had been a very long, exhausting (both physically and emotionally) day. I noted that we got up at 7:37 am…actually I woke up at that time because my DSis had sent me a text from the living room asking me what time we needed to catch a bus. I got up, washed my face, and then got DH up. I opened the door to our bedroom to the lovely aroma of the Disney coffee brewing and my DSis and DS going through some Disney pins that needed to be traded that day.
We finished getting ready, I grabbed a small cup of coffee, and we headed out the door at 9:00 am. We made it to the elevator and to the bus stop in no time. DMil was in a wheelchair this morning so she was a bit quicker than the day before. At the bus stop DMil complained about the comfort of the wheelchair and then complained that the bus was taking too long. Once on the bus, she complained that the seats on the bus weren't comfortable. I just let her complain and tried to remember that this was supposed to be a relaxing trip and to just enjoy it….this was becoming difficult. There is only so much fussing and complaining that I can take.
It felt like forever but in actuality the ride to DHS didn’t take long and before we knew it, we were heading into the park. I made a quick stop by guest services to ask about our Comp Tickets for MNSSHP and to grab a “First Visit” pin for DMil. We were told that we needed to get our Comp Tickets from MK, so they gave us a paper with our case number on it and we headed off to our first FastPass of the day.
After our stop by Guest Services it was approaching 10:00 am so we needed to head over to our first fast pass which was for TSMM from 9:15 am until 10:15 am. Since DMiL was in a wheelchair, we were put in the accessible line and were put on the ride in about 5 – 10 mins. I don’t recall the scores but I know that DH was the winner of all of us.
Next we headed to The Great Movie Ride (which I absolutely love). We ended up seeing the gangster scene, but that’s ok…we love them both. After our ride through the movies, we stopped for a potty break.
After our potty break, we headed towards our second fastpass which was for Star Tours from 10:15 am – 11:15 am. We were on the ride in not time and guess who was the Rebel Spy on our tour?! DH was! It was too funny!
It was 11:15 am by the time we got off Star Tours, so we have to book it over to our 11:15 am ressie at 50’s PTC. It was 11:17 am when we checked in. We sat down and waited on our name to be called. We were seated at a smaller table, but it was comfy and our server was really nice.
First complaint at the restaurant was – there’s nothing on the menu that I (DMil) like. We told her to pick something to try and if she didn't like it, we would get something else. So finally everyone was ready to order.
DH ordered the Chicken Pot Pie
DMiL ordered the Fried Chicken Plate
DS ordered the spaghetti
DSis and I shared an order of onion rings and the Fried Chicken Plate
More complaints started after we put our orders in….DMil would not stop complaining.
Complaint #1 – It’s taking too long for the food to come out – we waited maybe 15 – 20 minutes for our food to arrive. It was lunch time and the place was packed…I thought they brought the food out fairly quickly. Complaint #2 – Her appetizer plate was wet… They apparently had just washed them and they didn’t get all the way dried. Complaint #3 – The food came out and the fried chicken isn’t the cuts that she likes – she proceeds to pile all of the chicken onto a small side dish and continue to complain. Complaint #4 – The collard greens were too dry – so she proceeds to scoop them all onto my son’s plate….
My son is just looking at her and saying, “Grandma, I don’t want that”…”Grandma, that’s enough, I don’t want that”.
I finally had enough. I looked at her and said, “Please stop putting your food on my son’s plate”. She looked at me and said, “I know what I’m doing, Shut Up”
The table went dead silent and everyone’s eyes doubled in size. It might just be my opinion, but saying “Shut up” to someone is a sign of disrespect and since I’m the one who’s paying for EVERYTHING, I don’t think that she should have said shut up to me.
I quietly leaned over to my husband and said, “I want to go home.” He quietly got up and wheeled my DMIl out of the restaurant with my son. My sister and I sat there and waited on the bill so that I could pay and leave. The total with tip came to $120.00.
Right when I was settling up with the ticket, DH comes back into the restaurant and tells me that he’s driving his mother back to Columbia and that he’d be back as quickly as he could. I pleaded with him to let me go with him, as it was a 6.5 hour drive both ways and I feared for his safety. He said no, stay and enjoy the time with DS and DSis. So he headed out of the park with DMil at 12:30 pm and we remained in the park.
I had reached my breaking point and I was angry and upset and sad...these are NOT emotions you should have at Disney World...
Skipping ahead - DH said that when he was taking DMil back to the resort, she threw the money we gave her as spending money at him and said, “I don’t want your money.” He insisted that she keep it but she threw a fit and he used it for gas money to drive her back to Columbia, SC. Then they got the resort and she became stubborn and wouldn't use the wheelchair. He said that it seemed like she didn't want him to take her back home, but he had enough. It was less than 24 hours that we made it to Disney and she had to be taken back home. DH sent me a text at 9:30 pm and said he had made it back to Columbia, SC and taken his mom to her house and got her settled. He got back on the road to Disney at 10:00 pm and made it back to our resort at 4:30 am.
Coming up - The day gets better, but I miss DH - Part 2 of Day 2

Oh, wow, Jaime!!!! I can't believe he drove her all the way home! I can't believe she told you to shut up either!
I am so sorry that this is how your trip started out!
I am hoping that once your DH got back it was the best it could be the rest of the week!
